KCR's corruption exposed in Kaleshwaram, says Mahesh Goud

The Hindua day ago
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said that the Judicial Commission on the irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project pointed all fingers towards former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the massive irregularities in the planning and execution of the project.
'I have seen media reports on the Kaleshwaram Commission clearly holding KCR and his team responsible for the enormous violations leading to poor quality of construction,' he said arguing that the report has revealed what the Congress had been saying all along.
'Thousands of crores were wasted in the name of irrigation development, but the reality is that the Kaleshwaram project was driven by personal gain,' he said during his Janahita padayatra in Armoor on Saturday.
Mr. Goud accused KCR of completely ignoring expert advice and overstepping technical guidelines. 'Engineers were silenced, and the project was built as per the whims and fancies of KCR so that they could make money. The project failure isn't just inefficiency but criminal negligence,' he said.
He reiterated that the Congress government will ensure accountability and justice, holding those responsible for such scams answerable to the people of Telangana.
He also blamed KCR and former minister for Irrigation Harish Rao for Andhra Pradesh pushing the controversial Banakacherla project as the BRS had made backdoor agreements with Andhra Pradesh during their tenure.
Earlier in the day, AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, and Mahesh Kumar Goud participated in Shramadanam activities with students at Jogipet Degree College.
Minister D. Seethakkha, MLA Madan Mohan Rao, Advisor to Government Shabbir Ali and AICC secretary Sampath Kumar also joined the padayatra.
Mr. Goud further said that the credit for the historic decision of 42% reservations to Backward Classes goes to the Congress Party, which introduced it through the Kamareddy Declaration. 'It is Rahul Gandhi's leadership that made this possible,' he declared. He wondered why BRS MLC K Kavitha was making noise when she was silent during her father's regime.

Cabinet may initiate action against those responsible for irregularities in Kaleshwaram project

Hyderabad, Aug 3 (UNI) The crucial Telangana Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy tomorrow is likely to initiate criminal proceedings or departmental action against those found responsible for alleged irregularities in the execution of the Kaleshwaram project during the previous BRS government. After a 15-month probe into the sinking of sme piers of Medigadda barrage and damages to Annaram and sundilla barrages which are part of the Kaleshwara Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), the Justice PC Ghose one-man commission submitted its 650-page report to Telangana government on July 31, 2025. The report was also officially handed over the Chief Minister on Friday. After discussing the findings of the Justice PC Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS), the government may direct the Anti corruption Bureau (ACB) or the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to take further action based on the report submitted by the Commission. Following this, the government constituted a high-level committee comprising of Senior Secretaries from the Irrigation, law and General Administration departments, to examine the report and prepare a detailed survey for presentation in the cabinet meeting. Irrigation Minister Kumar Reddy, who conducted a meting with the committee today evening on the preparation of the report submitted it to the cabinet. The cabinet will deliberate on the commission's findings and the committee's brief survey to decide on appropriate action. Speaking at various programmes in Peddapalli district today, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy confirmed that the state cabinet would soon discuss the report on the Kaleshwaram project and take a policy decision. He reiterated that Telangana was committed to protecting its irrigation rights and would continue to resist any attempts to divert Godavari water out of the state. The Minister criticised the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, stating that ₹1 lakh crore had been wasted and claimed that the Medigadda barrage had failed to provide any benefit. He pointed out that although Kaleshwaram passes through Manthani constituency, it had not irrigated even a single acre. Though Telangana had still achieved record-level paddy production, showing that the state's agricultural performance was not dependent on Kaleshwaram alone, he added. UNI KNR RKM

Internal quota: Parameshwara appeals to groups to not protest

Home Minister G. Parameshwara here on Sunday said that the Congress government was committed to implementing internal reservation for Scheduled Caste communities in the State and appealed to those threatening to stage protest seeking implementation of it to not do so. 'We had made the declaration on internal reservation in Chitradurga and we have also committed to it in our manifesto. Whatever we need to do should be done according to the procedure and guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. We are committed to implementing internal reservation; procedures have to be followed for which we need some time,' he told presspersons. His statement comes in the light of Dalit left (Madigas) groups threatening a protest from August 11. Dalit left leaders from the BJP, including Govind Karjol and A. Narayanaswamy, have also made such a threat. The Minister said that the commission, headed by retired judge H.N. Nagamohan Das, would submit its report to the government on August 4. It would discussed in the State Cabinet and steps would be taken to implement the recommendations. The A.J. Sadashiva Commission report was not accepted by the then BJP government because of data issues. On the meeting of Ministers from the Scheduled Caste community that he had convened, Dr. Parameshwara said that it was decided to have a common voice on the internal reservation. 'If there are any issues with communities, it was decided to talk to them.'

Mahesh Goud and Meenakshi Natarajan to lead BC leaders in a train to New Delhi today

Telangana Congress president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and AICC in-charge of state affairs Meenakshi Natarajan will leave in a special train from Hyderabad on Monday, along with a delegation of Backward Classes leaders, to New Delhi to participate in the dharna seeking 42% reservations to Backward Classes. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will lead the dharna at Jantar Mantar on August 6, demanding Presidential assent for the Backward Classes reservation Bills passed by the Telangana Assembly. The Congress has planned a series of protests from August 5 to 7. Meanwhile, the Janahita Padayatra of Mr. Mahesh Goud and Meenakshi Natarajan continued in Adilabad district. Addressing a roadside meeting in Khanapur on Sunday evening, Ms. Meenakshi said the foot march is being organised by drawing inspiration from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's historic pan-India 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. It symbolises Congress's ideology of social justice, inclusive growth and upliftment of marginalised sections, she said. She said the Congress's ideals are rooted in unity and social inclusion as against the BJP's divisive politics. The holistic and inclusive development model of Telangana set an example for other States to emulate, she said, listing out a plethora of flagship welfare schemes of the Telangana government. The Congress government has sanctioned title deeds to tribal farmers under the RoFR Act and initiated concrete measures for the empowerment of tribal people and marginalised sections of society, she said, referring to the recently passed 42% BC quota bills. Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud, Ministers D. Anasuya (Seethakka) and Jupally Krishna Rao and others spoke.
