CBC13-08-2025
The province's police watchdog is investigating after a man was shot and killed by Ontario Provincial Police in Turkey Point on Tuesday afternoon.
Norfolk County OPP said the incident began around 2 p.m., when members of the Norfolk County Marine Unit attempted to stop a boater. Police said the man then entered a marina and fled on foot.
Officers from the OPP's Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit later found the man. During what police are calling "an interaction," an officer fired their gun. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the man has not been released.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which probes incidents involving police where there has been serious injury, death, or allegations of sexual assault, has invoked its mandate. The SIU confirmed in a post on X that it is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting in the area of MacDonald Turkey Point Marina.
