SEC Softball Tournament Predictions
SEC Softball has provided several twists and turns this season, the first with Oklahoma and Texas in the league. Though the Oklahoma Sooners won the regular season title, league play revealed that there are a number of teams that could take the tournament title and are legit contenders for the national championship.
Oklahoma swept Texas. Florida and Tennessee took series from the Sooners. Tennessee took a series from Texas. Texas A&M took a series from Florida. Texas took two of three from Florida. That's five of the top six teams who have beaten up on each other all season. Throw Arkansas into the mix, who could beat any team in the league, and the SEC tournament is wide open.
By winning the regular season SEC championship, the Oklahoma Sooners earned the top seed in the SEC Tournament, which takes place in Athens, Georgia, home of the Bulldogs this week. The tournament will begin on Tuesday and run through Saturday in a single-elimination format.
Who's going to win it all? Here are our predictions for the SEC Softball Tournament, the schedule, and broadcast information for this week in Athens.

It may be crazy to predict the Oklahoma Sooners to win the SEC tournament given their pitching struggles in Gainesville. But it feels crazier to pick against them. They may not win it all. The SEC is deep and talented. Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, and Arkansas all have the potential to take the tournament title. But Oklahoma has the best coaching staff in softball and a lineup that can score with anyone. If they can get better pitching performances like they got in the Texas series, the Sooners could find themselves hoisting another trophy by the end of the weekend.

Senior Bowl 300 watch list features 10 Oklahoma Sooners

The organizing body for the Senior Bowl announced the first pool of 300 players who qualify for inclusion for this year's game at the end of the season, and 10 Oklahoma Sooners were included on the list. The Sooners were headlined by quarterback John Mateer, who qualifies despite being a junior, because he previously redshirted and qualifies as being eligible for the NFL draft. Mateer is set for his first season in Norman after leading the FBS in total touchdowns last year at Washington State, throwing for 29 and running for another 15 scores. Mateer also made the initial watch lists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, and several other postseason awards. Joining Mateer as a Senior Bowl honoree on the offensive side of the ball were wide receiver Deion Burks and running back Jaydn Ott. Ott is also entering his first year with OU after transferring from California-Berkeley, where he was a first-team All-Pac 12 running back two seasons ago before injuries stifled his production in 2024. Burks transferred from Purdue ahead of the 2024 season and was on the verge of a breakout last year, catching 31 passes in just five games before injuries took their toll, as well. Defensively, seven Sooners made the list. Four of those seven play on Oklahoma's defensive line. That group is led by defensive end R Mason Thomas. Thomas was named preseason All-SEC second-team by the league's media over the summer and All-SEC second-team by the league's coaches earlier this week. The Senior Bowl also honored Marvin Jones Jr., Gracen Halton, and Damonic Williams. Among the second level defenders, safety Robert Spears-Jennings and cheetah's Kendal Daniels and Kendel Dolby made the 300. Spears-Jennings is Oklahoma's leading returning tackler after registering 66 stops last year. Dolby was a starter two seasons ago and had 49 tackles, including five for loss, and two interceptions. Last year, Dolby was limited to just five games after suffering a dislocated ankle. This is the first year the Senior Bowl has released its top 300. In years past, initial lists included 850 players. Kip Lewis is the most notable player missing from the list. The weakside linebacker is in going into his fourth season with the Sooners and has been an impact player over the last two years. He has a year of eligibility after this year, so he could return to Oklahoma for 2026. There's still time for players to play their way into consideration for inclusion into the Senior Bowl. Heading into 2025, the Sooners have a significant group of upperclassmen leading the way in what they hope will be a huge bounce-back season. Bobby Witt Jr.'s 100th Career Home Run Put Him in Elite MLB Company

Bobby Witt Jr. knew the ball was gone the moment it left his bat. Only later did the young Kansas City Royals star realize what kind of company it allowed him to join. The latest no-doubt shot, which came off Texas reliever Cole Winn and landed an estimated 449 feet to dead center field, made Witt only the fourth player with at least 100 homers and 100 stolen bases through his first four big league seasons. The others are Julio Rodríguez, Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Bonds — some pretty select company. The two-run shot in the eighth inning against Texas on Tuesday night merely padded the lead for Kansas City, which went on to a 5-2 victory. It was the fifth straight win for the Royals, who closed to within 2.5 games of an AL wild-card berth. The home run also made Witt the youngest in franchise history to reach the 100-homer mark. He made it at the age of 25 years, 66 days, faster than Carlos Beltran when he accomplished it during the 2003 season. In addition, just 17 players have ever hit 100 homers while with the Royals: Hall of Famer George Brett is the franchise leader, at 317, with Witt's teammate, Salvador Perez, in second at 295. "I want him up there every inning," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said of Witt. "I mean, you look at the lineup and you're trying to figure out, 'How many times can we get to the plate? How many guys can we keep on base for him when he does come to the plate?' "I mean, that's an immense amount of pressure on a younger player to understand that's how everybody feels about him," Quatraro said. "But he has the physical ability, the makeup and the mental capacity to handle it." Witt also become one of six shortstops in the last 95 years to hit at least 100 homers through his age-25 seasons. That list of luminaries includes Alex Rodriguez, Cal Ripken Jr., Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa and Hanley Ramirez; of those players, only Rodriguez and Ramirez also had 100 steals by the time they were 25 years old. "It was special," Witt admitted, "just seeing the kind of names on the list or whatever they showed. But now, it's just kind of on to the next. It was special. We enjoy it. And now it's just onto the next game." They keep getting more important for the Royals, who have won five straight and seven of their last eight. They head into the third-game of their four-game set against the Rangers on Wednesday night with a chance to inch closer to a wild-card spot, and they proved last year that they could do some postseason damage if they can only get in. Witt continues to be the catalyst of their second-half surge, too. He's hitting .291 with 18 homers and 69 RBIs. "It's special when he goes out there," said the Royals' Seth Lugo, who allowed just two runs on three hits while pitching into the seventh inning Tuesday night. "I've been saying it for two years: He goes about his business the same way. He doesn't get up or down on himself. He's a master of consistency. That's what he does." Witt also happens to be a slick fielder with a Gold Glove in his trophy case. But at the plate is where Witt has become a bona fide star. He led the majors with a .332 average last year, when he hit 32 home runs, stole 31 bases and finished with 109 RBIs. And while he may not quite replicate the average, homer total or RBI numbers in this campaign, he already has 32 stolen bases while getting caught just seven times. "There's not too many guys that get to 100 (homers)," said Vinnie Pasquantino, who also homered Tuesday night. "And the fourth player in MLB history with 100 stolen bases? It's not a list I'll ever be on. I mean, it's kind of unbelievable. "He's one of the best players in the league for a reason," Pasquantino said. "A superstar."
