Ltd., under its flagship CSR initiative "Bisleri Greener Promise," inaugurated a rejuvenated pond and plantation drive to develop Biodiversity Park at Abupur Village, Ghaziabad. The pond rejuvenation, supported by Bisleri, aims to revive local ecosystems while fostering sustainable community participation. A key part of the support provided by Bisleri includes a door-to-door plastic waste collection program in collaboration with NGO, IPCA, aimed at ensuring proper waste segregation, recycling, and maintaining cleanliness in and around the village.

Biodiversity Park in Abupur Village, Ghaziabad is developed around the greenery belt of the pond area to fight air pollution and boost biodiversity. It features diverse plant species: like Amaltas, Bael, Arjun, Bahera, Kadam, Jamun, Pipal, Bottle Brush, Boughen villa, Khus grass etc. The rejuvenated pond, coupled with the plastic waste collection support, will ensure the longevity of the park's biodiversity.

PMC appoints independent squad to take action against bulk waste generators
Pune: Amid a large number of bulk waste generators (BWS) not processing wet waste at their source, the solid waste management department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed an independent squad to monitor and take action against these violators. The PMC has over 2,200 BWGs, and most of them include housing societies that are not treating the wet waste at source. Some of them even are found taking a 5% property tax rebate, despite not treating the wet waste, said the officials. (HT) The squad from next week will start inspections, said officials. Sandip Kadam, head of the SWM department, PMC, said, 'The SWMs are found not processing wet waste at the source, and some of them are keeping the processing plants closed. The squad will inspect these BWGs and make sure they are processing waste at source. The squad will daily monitor this and make sure the processing plants to process the waste are installed and they are kept operational.' The PMC this year, from January to July 2025, has taken action against 59 BWGs in the city and collected a penalty of ₹3.50 lakh. As per the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, being effectively implemented from 19 December 2018, BWGs— housing societies and commercial establishments with an average waste generation exceeding 100kg per day should process wet waste at the site. They have to manage the biodegradable (wet) waste at their premises using composting/ vermin composting, biomethanation or any other suitable technology, said the PMC officials. Kadam explained that this is important from the perspective of Swachh Survekshan and improving waste management in the city. 'The PMC gives a 5% rebate to such BWGs who treat wet waste at the site. However, we have now come across such housing societies and establishments that are taking a rebate but not processing the waste,' he added. A housing society chairman, requesting anonymity, said the PMC is focused on taking action against the citizens and collecting penalties, but is least bothered about their responsibility. 'There are several chronic garbage dumping spots in the city, which they have failed to eliminate. The incidents of illegal fire burning are also on the rise, and the civic body has turned a blind eye towards the issue. Most shocking was how PMC secured 8th rank in the 'Swachh Shahar' category in the Swachh Survekshan,' he said.

After Nehru Park, NDMC to build ₹1.6 crore rubberised jogging track around Sanjay Lake
After Nehru Park, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to develop its second rubberised synthetic jogging track—this time around the lake at Sanjay Park near Laxmi Bai Nagar, senior civic officials said. The project, estimated to cost ₹1.6 crore, is expected to be completed within three months, they added. Synthetic track at Nehru Park. (HT Archive) The new track is part of a broader initiative to enhance infrastructure for morning walkers in prominent parks across the Lutyens' Delhi area. 'A synthetic rubber flooring will be laid over the existing red sandstone footpath to create a jogging track around Sanjay Lake,' a senior NDMC official said. 'The response to the track at Nehru Park has been very encouraging. We have already floated tenders for this project. Besides the construction, the selected agency will also be responsible for its upkeep and maintenance of the track.' The existing red sandstone path has suffered damage over time. The official said the damaged sections, along with kerb stones, will be removed and replaced with a new base. The jogging track will stretch around 1.75 km and have a width of 1.5 metres. The adjoining mud walkway will serve as a diversion during the construction phase. To protect the rubberised surface, NDMC will deploy guards and install signboards urging users not to wear spiked shoes. 'We faced this problem in the Nehru Park facility where runners and athletes using spike shoes and damaged the surface,' an official said. The contract also includes long-term maintenance. 'The agency will be responsible for cleaning the entire track weekly using blower machines, washing it monthly with high-pressure water, and repairing any damage. This maintenance will continue for five years,' the official said. Sanjay Park, spread over 16 acres along Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Road opposite Laxmi Bai Nagar, features a canal and artificial lake. It was inaugurated on June 23, 1982, by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The park is home to over 1,400 trees across 33 species, including Moulsari, Kadam, Acacia, Grevillea Robusta, Chorisia, and Plumeria. In May, NDMC had also announced a 200-metre running track in Lodhi Garden, to be located near Gate No. 5. Inspired by the track at Siri Fort Sports Complex, the Lodhi Garden facility will feature a gravel surface and sprinkler system to control dust and maintain surface quality. NDMC's first synthetic jogging track was introduced at Nehru Park in 2020 as a pilot project.
