CPI(M) urges Centre to withdraw new Labour Codes
Addressing mediapersons before a party meeting in Dindigul district, he said that the new Labour Codes: the Code on Wages, the Industrial Relations Code, the Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working conditions and the Code on Social Security should be immediately withdrawn
He requested Chief Minister M. K. Stalin to take the steps to pass a resolution urging the Centre to withdraw the Labour Codes. Trade unions have already expressed their strong opposition to the Labour Codes, he said, adding that the party backed the decision of the trade union to stage a protest against the Labour Codes.
He said that CPI(M) has extended its support for 'Operation Sindoor' by Indian Armed Forces launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The killing of innocent civilians cannot be tolerated. Necessary action should be taken, he said.
However, he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being absent at the all party meeting that was held after the terror attack. He urged the Prime Minister to convene a Special Parliament Session to discuss the issue.
He said that the party has decided to conduct a 10-day march in Tamil Nadu in June against hate and communal politics practised by BJP-led Central government
Mr. Shanmugam urged the State government to recruit people to various posts on a permanent basis and not through contract or outsourcing methods. Steps were being taken to fill these posts on contract basis or through outsourcing. This approach towards recruitment should change, he said.
He also urged the State government to recover the panchami lands from encroachers and ensure that it was provided to the real beneficiaries.

The implementation will cover a total immediate promotions slate of 23,710 personnel. Total 8,116 promotion orders in different ranks have already been issued today,' a BSF spokesperson said. 'The cadre review is expected to provide much-needed respite from existing promotion bottlenecks that have affected career progression for years in the 2.65 lakh personnel force. With this approval, avenues for advancement from Constable to Inspector will expand considerably, reducing stagnation and enabling a steady flow of leadership within the force's operational ranks,' the official added.

Kerala High Court Serves Ultimatum To Centre To Decide On Loan Waiver For Wayanad Landslide Victims
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday issued a stern ultimatum to the Central government, granting it one final opportunity to convey its decision on waiving off loans taken by victims of the Wayanad landslides. A division bench of Justices A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and Jobin Sebastian was hearing a suo motu case initiated following the devastating landslide that struck Wayanad on July 30, 2024. When the matter came up, the court inquired about the Centre's position on the loan waiver. The Additional Solicitor General, appearing for the Centre, informed the bench that no final decision had been communicated to him yet, but assured that he would update the court by September 10. Taking note of the prolonged delay, the bench ordered: "Post these matters on 10th September. This is the last chance for the Central government to revert to this court regarding their decision on the loan waiver." In previous hearings, the ASG had explained that the matter had moved from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Department of Expenditure and subsequently to the Finance Ministry, where it is pending further instructions. This is not the first time the court has expressed dissatisfaction with the Centre's approach. In April, the High Court had criticised the Union government and the National Disaster Management Authority for inaction and urged them to emulate Kerala Bank's example, which wrote off Rs 5 crore worth of loans owed by affected residents. According to court records, 12 banks collectively hold 3,220 accounts in the landslide-hit region, with total exposure amounting to Rs 35.30 crore. The bench had earlier reminded the Centre of its responsibility as the chief executive in a welfare state, urging it to aid citizens who lost their livelihoods, instead of allowing banks to adopt a 'Shylockian' approach towards borrowers. The July 30, 2024, disaster decimated four villages, injured hundreds, claimed over 200 lives, and left 32 people still missing. Survivors continue to face financial hardship as they struggle to rebuild their lives.

Rekha says no dearth of funds for capital's development projects
New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta has issued directions to the heads of all departments of the Delhi govt to ensure the timely completion of all projects projected in this financial year. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Officials said the chief minister chaired a meeting of the heads of all departments earlier this week and asserted that development work in the capital would not be hindered by financial constraints. While the Delhi govt passed a budget of Rs 1 lakh crore for the 2025-26 financial year, officials said the chief minister clarified in the meeting that there was enough money in the coffers to fund the projects and the centre was also open to the idea of helping the city wherever required. "She issued clear directives that all capital projects outlined in the budget must be implemented without any delay, and their progress should be reviewed regularly. All senior officers must continuously monitor these initiatives and take immediate, effective action to resolve any issues," said an official who was part of the meeting. "The CM highlighted that the Delhi govt passed a record budget of Rs 1 lakh crore to ensure that no project faces financial constraints," the official added. The meeting was called to review the progress of ongoing development projects, public service initiatives, and administrative reforms. "During the meeting, the CM stressed that the capital's progress towards a 'Developed Delhi' will not be impeded by financial constraints, and noted that her govt had an adequate budget while the Centre was also providing full support," said an official, adding that the CM clearly mentioned she would continue to review the projects regularly to ensure their timely completion. She also expressed satisfaction with the success of the digital governance system and emphasised promoting it further, along with ensuring the full implementation of the e-office system. She said that 119 of 199 departments had adopted the system, while the remaining ones would also join the e-office system soon to ensure the complete digitalisation of offices.
