KSGAAL launches report on global status of Arabic language education
The launch of the report came during a two-day international symposium on the status of Arabic language education on Feb. 18 and 19 at ICESCO's headquarters in Rabat.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, secretary-general of KSGAAL, said in a press release that the report is part of the academy's ongoing efforts to promote Arabic language education around the world, and 'to drive a transformative shift in Arabic language education as a second language globally.'
It 'focuses on shaping policies and strategies that elevate teaching standards while conducting an in-depth assessment of Arabic learning institutions' and 'aims to broaden the language's reach, overcome key challenges, and foster stronger partnerships with regional and international organizations dedicated to Arabic language education,' Al-Washmi added.
The report 'represents a significant step toward establishing a comprehensive knowledge base on Arabic language education, serving as a key reference for policymakers and academic institutions in developing curricula and educational programs,' he continued.
Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, director-general of ICESCO, commended Saudi Arabia's 'pioneering vision in advancing the Arabic language and its mission to preserve and promote its status.'
He said in the press release: 'Strengthening the Arabic language within its Islamic context and on the global stage is a shared duty and a historic responsibility—one that calls for unified efforts and sustained collaboration.'
According to the press release, the report is the first to assess 'the realities of Arabic language education in non-Arabic-speaking countries. It provides 'in-depth analysis' of more than 300 educational institutions across 30 countries, includes an analysis of graduates' employment prospects, and 'identifies key challenges facing Arabic language education and proposes practical solutions to enhance educational policies and strengthen coordination among relevant stakeholders.'
Dr. Mahmoud Al-Mahmoud, head of the Planning and Language Policy Sector at KSGAAL, told Arab News that the report aims to 'drive a paradigm shift in the Arabic language education as a second language,' adding that it will provide 'educational institutions, researchers, and relevant stakeholders with the opportunity to strengthen areas in need of development.'
Dr. Khaled Al-Qousi, director of the Language Policy Department at KSGAAL, said the report includes research about the employment prospects and hiring rates for graduates of Arabic language programs in various countries, and assesses the 'accessibility of employment opportunities for graduates of Arabic language programs within the global job market.'
The findings, the press release stated, 'underscore the necessity of fostering strategic partnerships between Arabic language programs and key sectors, including education, diplomacy, commerce, and media, to ensure that graduates can fully leverage these opportunities.'

GASTAT: Nearly 70% of Saudis under age of 35

Over 60 million visit the Two Holy Mosques in Muharram
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque announced that a total of 60,245,635 people visited the Two Holy Mosques during the Islamic month of Muharram in 1447 AH, supported by an integrated network of services provided by the authority and participating agencies to serve pilgrims and worshippers. The authority reported that the Grand Mosque in Makkah welcomed 27,531,599 worshippers, including 47,823 who prayed in the Hateem area of Hijr Ismail. The number of Umrah performers reached 7,857,270. At the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, the total number of worshippers reached 21,576,200, including 1,122,368 who prayed in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah. Meanwhile, 2,110,375 people visited to greet the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his two companions (may Allah be pleased with them). The authority stressed that it is committed to providing the highest quality services to ensure ease, comfort, and tranquility for worshippers, pilgrims, and visitors, in line with the directives of the Saudi leadership. It also reaffirmed its efforts to remove any obstacles and further enhance services at the Two Holy Mosques.

Muslim World League launches global digital Quranic reading initiatives in Makkah
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, inaugurated a series of pioneering Quranic projects at the MWL headquarters in Makkah. The launch included the opening of the 'First Coordinating Forum for Global Digital Quranic Reading Platforms,' the unveiling of the 'Global Digital Quranic Reading Portal,' and the establishment of the world's first association dedicated to digital Quranic reading. The event, attended by leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners in Quran recitation and education, as well as representatives from 50 global digital Quranic reading platforms, highlighted advanced efforts to teach and recite the Quran remotely through modern communication technologies. Sheikh Al-Issa welcomed the guests, stressing that these initiatives align with the MWL's mission to strengthen the unity of the Muslim Ummah and serve the Holy Qur'an. He described the MWL as a gift from Saudi Arabia to the Islamic world, thanking the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continuous support of Islamic behalf of the participating platforms, Dr. Ahmed Jamil from Indonesia praised the MWL's scientific and technical vision in connecting the world to the Qur'an and facilitating its learning and mastery according to established forum's four sessions covered topics including regulations for granting Quranic ijazah (certification) via digital platforms, development of educational tools for remote Quran instruction, coordination of international efforts in digital Quranic recitation, and the presentation of innovative technology-based initiatives in Quran the forum's key recommendations was the creation of the 'Global Association for Digital Quranic Reading Platforms' under the MWL to serve as an international body for overseeing and developing digital Quranic expressed deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia and the MWL for their unwavering support of the Holy Qur'an and their leadership in global coordination of Quranic education.
