'Mutton In Sawan': Tejashwi Yadav Attacks Lalan Singh For Non-Veg Party, Dares PM Modi To Respond
A fresh political row has erupted in Bihar after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav targeted Union Minister Lalan Singh over a 'mutton party' held during Sawan in Lakhisarai. Tejashwi accused the BJP of hypocrisy, saying the party stays silent when its allies serve non-veg food in a holy month. He challenged PM Modi to comment on the JD(U) event during his Bihar visit. The controversy echoes past clashes, including a 2023 backlash against Tejashwi for posting a fish fry video during Navratri. With elections nearing, the debate over food and faith has once again returned to Bihar's political spotlight.#biharpolitics #sawancontroversy #muttonparty #tejashwiyadav #lalansingh #religiouspolitics #electionbattle #biharelections #nonvegissue #politicalnews #rjd #bjp #jdu #congress #toi #toibharat

Indian drugmakers seek exemption for generics from US supplies probe

Mumbai: A US government probe into pharmaceutical imports and their implications on national security must exclude generic drugs from its purview, a business delegation from the Indian pharmaceutical industry told Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal at a meeting held last week. The local industry's contention assumes significance in the backdrop of the impending India-US bilateral trade agreement and the uncertainty over reciprocal tariffs being imposed by the US government. So far, the US has exempted pharmaceutical imports from the proposed tariffs of 50%, half of which are to kick in on August 27. Experts said that the issues related to supplies of medicines from India to the US are critical given the plans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit China for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting later this month in Tianjin. In April, under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, 1962, the US government had initiated an investigation into imports of medicines to the country, sparking concerns over potential supply chain disruptions and pricing volatility there. The law grants authority to the US President to impose restrictions on such imports if those are deemed to threaten US national security. People familiar with the mater told ET that the meeting with the pharmaceutical industry was called by the commerce ministry to discuss a range of issues, including ways to tackle abrupt disruptions and to strengthen the industry with closer attention to new research and innovation. A note in May from global consulting firm EY said that historically, Section 232 has been used to justify tariffs on steel, aluminium and automobiles.

'You've Taken BJP Membership': Rahul Gandhi Targets Election Commission In Bihar Rally During the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Gaya, Bihar, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi intensified his attack on the Election Commission, alleging that all three commissioners are acting like BJP workers. Referring to RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's remarks, Gandhi said the EC has effectively 'taken BJP membership' and accused them of aiding 'vote theft.' He warned that once the INDIA bloc forms governments in Bihar and at the Centre, strict action would be taken against the officials for their alleged bias. Gandhi's fiery remarks reflect the Opposition's growing confrontation with the EC over alleged irregularities in Bihar's voter list revision. 50 views | 1 hour ago

Is pitch clear for another Scindia to don MPCA prez cap?

Bhopal/Indore: As Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) heads towards an election, scheduled for Sept 2, is Mahanaryaman Scindia headed for a walkover? Sources in the MPCA say that with Mahanaryaman's father, Union minister , now in BJP, the traditional rivalry between the Scindia faction and that led by state minister and veteran BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargia is over, paving the way for Scindia junior getting to the post of association president unopposed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The third and powerful faction, led by former BCCI secretary and MPCA president Sanjay Jagdale, is likely to secure majority of important seats. While incumbent president Abhilash Khandekar is set to complete his second term, sources indicate preparations are underway to nominate Mahanaryaman for the president's post. Currently, Mahanaryaman holds the position of vice-president of the Gwalior cricket division. Mahanaryaman's administrative skills came to the fore with the launch of the Madhya Pradesh Premiere League Scindia Cup two years ago in Gwalior and the event has been successful since its inception. One of the editions, initially scheduled to be organised earlier this year in Indore, was later shifted to Gwalior. "The league has shown that Mahanaryaman has the knack to take up bigger responsibilities," said a senior cricketer. Sources told TOI members from the Sanjay Jagdale and Kailash Vijayvargiya factions may be assigned significant responsibilities within the association. Ahead of the elections, officials from eight divisions of the association reached Indore on Monday for the MPCA award function. "Since everyone was in Indore, it was an opportunity to meet ahead of the election. The scenario would get clearer in the next couple of days. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now As of now, it is clear that one name has been decided unopposed for the post of president," said a senior member of MPCA on the condition of anonymity. Jyotiraditya and his father Madhavrao Scindia have been MPCA presidents in the past. While the election for the post of president is expected to be unopposed, there is a possibility of significant competition for the post of secretary. Sources said a candidate from Jagdale's group might be chosen for this position.
