KTR tars Cong govt in TG with ‘commission raj' paint
Referring to the protest staged by small contractors in front of the Chief Minister's office inside the state secretariat, Rama Rao said the fact that they were forced to take such a step was a clear reflection of the government's moral and administrative bankruptcy. 'This is not just a protest, it is a direct indictment of Revanth Reddy's deteriorating rule,' he said.
Rao alleged that while the state government was clearing multi-crore bills of big contractors, including those reportedly linked to cabinet ministers, small contractors were being harassed and denied payments merely because they refused to pay 20 per cent commission. He questioned the logic behind the government having enough funds to send bags of cash to Delhi but not enough to pay contractors who worked on public welfare schemes. He reminded that this was not the first such protest. 'Previously, contractors staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Chief Minister's chamber. Now they've reached the CM's office. What further proof is needed of this administration's decay?' he asked.
KTR said the 'Mana Ooru – Mana Badi' scheme, which aimed to improve school infrastructure for underprivileged children, was being tarnished due to non-payment of bills. 'It is shameful that those who worked on such noble programmes are being neglected,' he said. 'At the same time, bills of large contractors are being cleared at lightning speed. This exposes the two-faced nature of the Congress government,' he added.
KTR criticised the Revanth Reddy administration for defaulting on payments to genuine contractors while having no shortage of funds when it comes to sending money to the Congress high command in Delhi. 'In just 20 months, this government borrowed Rs 2.2 lakh crore and hasn't implemented even a single of the 420 promises it made. The public deserves to know where the money went. The government must immediately release a white paper on fund utilisation,' he demanded.
KTR demanded an independent investigation into the widely alleged 20 per cent commission racket. 'When the Prime Minister himself has repeatedly stated that 'RR tax' exists in Telangana, why is there no probe into such corruption? The fact that contractors are openly accusing the government inside the Secretariat itself shows that the Congress regime has transformed into a full-fledged Commission Corporation,' he said.

"If he is elected vice-president, he will play a crucial role in getting 42% reservations for OBCs approved. He knows the survey in depth and has advised the state govt on ensuring justice for backward classes. He will be the strongest voice of OBCs in Parliament," he asserted. To questions on his role in finalising the candidature, Revanth said: "Justice Reddy is INDIA bloc's choice. He gave a presentation on caste survey analysis to MPs in Delhi, and they recognised his worth as a constitutional expert." Andhra backs NDA's pick for V-P, Telangana backs Sudershan Reddy
Hyderabad: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for the Vice-Presidential election CP Radhakrishnan has secured unanimous support from all political parties, including the opposition YSR Congress Party – in Andhra Pradesh. (Agency Photo) In Telangana, however, Radhakrishnan has got the support of only Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which has eight Lok Sabha members, while the ruling Congress and its friendly party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), who together have 12 MPs, have pitched in their support for INDIA bloc candidate and retired Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy. The main opposition – Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) which has no Lok Sabha members but four Rajya Sabha MPs – has not spelt out its stand on whom to extend support in the Vice-Presidential elections – Radhakrishnan or Sudershan Reddy. 'We have not yet discussed the issue till now. Our party president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will take a call on the matter. Declaring Sudershan Reddy, who is a son of Telangana, born into a farming family and above political affiliations, as Vice-Presidential nominee was a matter of pride, he said. The chief minister appealed to Telugu people to take responsibility for ensuring justice Sudershan Reddy's victory. 'It is a proud moment that once again a Telugu has been declared a Vice-Presidential candidate of such stature. This is a time to rise above politics and stand united,' he said. Revanth Reddy urged leaders across party lines — including Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, BRS president K Chandrashekar Rao, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, the Communist parties, and BJP MPs from both Telugu states — to extend their support to Sudershan Reddy. 'Justice Reddy is not a Congress candidate. He is a legal luminary proposed by the INDIA bloc, with no political affiliation, currently serving as chairman of an Independent Expert Committee,' the CM clarified. In Andhra Pradesh, the TDP and Jana Sena Party, which are part of the NDA, endorsed the candidature of Radhakrishnan. The TDP has 16 Lok Sabha members and two Rajya Sabha members, while Jana Sena has two Lok Sabha MPs. The BJP has three Lok Sabha members and two Rajya Sabha members from Andhra. Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan issued a statement welcoming the selection of Radhakrishnan as the NDA candidate for the Vice-Presidential elections, while a delegation of the TDP leaders led by state IT minister Nara Lokesh met Radhakrishnan in New Delhi and felicitated him. 'There is no ambiguity, only warmth, respect and resolve. The NDA stands united,' Lokesh said, after meeting Radhakrishnan along with senior TDP leaders and MPs. He praised Radhakrishnan's vast administrative experience as governor of several states, expressing confidence that his discipline, perseverance, and service-oriented leadership would inspire the younger generation and benefit the nation in the years ahead. Interestingly, the YSRCP, though it is not part of the NDA, extended support to Radhakrishnan. 'Our party president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy decided that we should support Radhakrishnan as he stands the better chances of winning. We cannot oppose a person just for the sake of opposition,' YSRCP parliamentary party leader YV Subba Reddy told HT. He said the NDA was first to reach out to the YSRCP seeking its support to Radhakrishnan. 'Union defence minister Rajnath Singh called Jagan personally and requested YSRCP support. It was a kind gesture and we have to reciprocate it,' Subba Reddy said. Currently, YSRCP holds seven Rajya Sabha and four Lok Sabha seats. Jagan's stance in this Vice-Presidential election may mark a decisive shift in future political alignments. Back in 2018, too, even though the TDP was part of the NDA, YSRCP had supported the NDA's decisions. The TDP subsequently exited the NDA alliance, and YSRCP, which came to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2019, maintained good relations with the NDA government. Until the 2024 elections, YSRCP supported NDA bills in Parliament unconditionally. 'Jagan still enjoys the indirect backing from the BJP, which has obviously kept him as an option in Andhra Pradesh. Right from the beginning, it has been going soft towards Jagan, because it doesn't want the Congress to resurrect in Andhra Pradesh,' political analyst and writer Ramesh Kandula said. Moreover, Jagan has been opposing the Congress since he came out of it and was jailed in the disproportionate assets case in 2012. Only a few days ago, Jagan made serious comments against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, refusing to support the latter's fight against alleged vote theft across the country. 'Rahul Gandhi has been in touch with Chandrababu Naidu on hotline regularly. So, the Congress is unreliable party,' he said. Since his sister YS Sharmila is heading the Congress in Andhra, taking a strong anti-YSRCP stand, he won't support the Congress-backed candidate in Vice-President elections, Kandula said.

New DELHI: India on Tuesday gave the final nod for acquisition of another 97 indigenous Tejas fighter jets and six advanced airborne early-warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft or "eyes in the sky", collectively worth around Rs 85,500 crore, which will be crucial to tackle the collusive and 'fused' challenge from China-Pakistan in the years ahead. The PM-led cabinet committee on security (CCS) approved the Rs 66,500 crore deal for 97 "improved" Tejas Mark-1A fighters to be produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which will add to the 83 such single-engine light combat aircraft already ordered from defence PSU under a Rs 46,898 crore deal inked in Feb 2021, top sources told TOI. "The first two jets of the 83 ordered earlier are fully ready. The final weapons firing trials (including Astra air-to-air missiles) are slated for Sept. With the order for another 97 jets, HAL will be able to expand and stabilise its supply chains," a source said. "All six AEW&C aircraft will be delivered by 2033-34," the source said. Timely induction of the 180 Tejas Mark-1A fighters is needed to stem rapid depletion in the number of IAF fighter squadrons (each has 16-18 jets), which will go down to its lowest-ever figure of 29 squadrons next month after retirement of the 36 old MiG-21s still in service. In the AEW&C arena, which are required to boost surveillance capabilities along the borders as well as help direct friendly fighters during air combat with enemy jets, India lags far behind even Pakistan. IAF currently has just three Netra AEW&C Mark-1 planes, with indigenous sensors mounted on Brazilian Embraer-145 jets for 240-degree radar coverage, and three Israeli 'Phalcon' radars mounted on Russian IL-76 aircraft. The new AEW&C project will involve the A-321 narrow-body aircraft first being "hardened and modified" in Spain and then being equipped with an antenna in the nose in addition to the main dorsal antenna to give 300-degree radar coverage. To make up numbers, defence ministry in March also accorded the initial "acceptance of necessity" to a separate project for six Netra Mark-1A on Embraer-145 jets, with more advanced technologies than the first three Mark-1 aircraft. On the Tejas front, IAF till now has got 38 of the first 40 Tejas Mark-1 fighters ordered for Rs 8,802 crore under two contracts inked in 2006 and 2010.
