Following his departure from Platinum Games, Hideki Kamiya announced his new studio, 'Clovers,' back in December at The Game Awards 2024, alongside the news that the studio would be teaming up with Capcom to release a follow-up to the cult classic Okami. During Kamiya's original tenure at Capcom, he worked closely with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami at Capcom Production Studio 4, which resulted in him directing Resident Evil 2 and the original version of Resident Evil 4 – which turned into Devil May Cry. Despite the two not having been under the same roof since Mikami finished work on Vanquish in 2010, Kamiya still uses the Resident Evil creator as a source of inspiration years later.
Speaking to Game*Spark (translated by Automaton Media), Kamiya says that Mikami's teachings from his time at Capcom directly impact how he teaches his staff today. "I don't tell the staff, 'This is what Mikami-san would say,' every step of the way," he says. "But in the course of developing games up to now, I have always made decisions based on his teachings, and I have shared them with the production team.
"Back then, we used to call what Mikami taught us the 'spirit of the 4th.'" Kamiya says, adding, "The reason I left PlatinumGames was because the company's way of thinking was gradually shifting towards a modern model of game development that doesn't place importance on the creators' individuality," presumably referencing Platinum's shift to live-service titles like Babylon's Fall (with Kamiya's Project G.G. allegedly being turned into a live-service title during development). Kamiya felt so strongly about this that he didn't care if leaving Platinum marked the end of his creating games, saying, "even if it meant the end of my career as a creator, I couldn't allow myself to kill my soul in order to work in an environment that I didn't agree with."
The Mikami-led Capcom Production Studio 4 was a bastion of creativity at Capcom, giving us the likes of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Killer 7, and this is something that has followed Kamiya throughout his career. Clover Studio – despite only sticking around for three years – made the wild trio of Viewtiful Joe, Okami, and God Hand. The name Clover Studio was an abbreviation of 'creativity lover,' with Kamiya taking that one step (or three steps) further with Clovers, which the director says stands for "Creativity," "Challenge," "Craftsmanship," and "our 4th C…" on the Clovers website.Despite being happy to leave Platinum Games in the past, Kamiya recently said he would love to take another crack at making the canceled Microsoft collab, Scalebound.

Marvel's New Fighting Game Looks Simply Awesome

PlayStation's State of Play livestream brought exciting news for fans of Marvel's fighting games, with a surprising twist. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls—arriving in 2026 for PC and PS5—is coming not from Capcom, developer of so many past Marvel games in the genre, but instead from a different Japanese company, Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, BlazBlue). Also of note, the game is a 4v4 tag-team fighter, and features some snazzy tokusatsu-inspired designs for its large roster of familiar characters. The announcement trailer touting the collaboration between PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games gives you some eye candy to go with those details: PlayStation's official blog offers a few more details beyond that incredibly fun and high-energy teaser video: 'Generally, a team VS fighting game requires the player to learn multiple characters,' explained game director and lead battle designer Kazuto Sekine. 'But for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, you only need to master one character in order to play the game. We have designed the mechanics in such a way that you can perform a variety of actions with either traditional fighting game inputs or simple inputs. With the press of a few buttons, multiple characters can appear on screen to provide backup or attack together—creating a new and exciting team VS battle experience.' Those characters, the teaser and the blog post confirm, include Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Storm, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes). They will each feature 'a bespoke set of Normal, Special, and Unique attacks inspired by their abilities and powers in Marvel lore,' with special consideration given to the game's format as a specifically 4v4 tag-team fighter. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls arrives next year. Will you be checking out based on this first extended glimpse?

Pragmata, Capcom's long-delayed PS5 game, is (probably) coming in 2026

Pragmata , a new sci-fi, third-person action game from Capcom, finally has a new release date. As part of Sony's summer State of Play on June 4, Capacom shared a new trailer showing off gameplay from Pragmata and revealing that the game is now targeting a 2026 release. Based on the trailer and a blog post on the Playstation Blog, you'll play as two characters in Pragmata : Hugh, a spacesuit-wearing lunk, and Diana, a young robot who appears to be able to hack into the lunar station you'll spend the game navigating. You apparently have to use both characters' abilities at the same time to get through rogue robots and other obstacles. In the trailer it look like a lot of hacking and smashing, but it'll presumably have more variety in its final release. Pragmata was announced all the way back in 2020, before the release of the PlayStation 5, targeting a 2022 release. The game has been delayed multiple different times since then, most recently in 2023 when Capcom delayed the game indefinitely. It's not clear how much of Pragmata has been reworked since then. Pragmata will be available in 2026 on PS5, presumably alongside releases on Xbox Series X / S and PC, as previously announced.

Everything announced at PlayStation's June 2025 State of Play

Summer game reveal season begins today. While Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase will have our attention this weekend, Sony is kicking things off with a PS5 showcase that could be juicy. After all, the back half of 2025 is a bit of a mystery for Sony. We know that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Marathon, and Ghost of Yotei will be the system's biggest games, but we expect some more holiday season exclusives to be revealed during today's 40 minute stream. Those won't just come from Sony itself. A blog post teased that we'll be getting updates from developers around the world. In PlayStation speak, that's usually code for third-party studios. Historically, we've gotten big announcements from companies like Capcom and Square Enix at State of Play showcases, so you never know if something like Resident Evil 9 will rear its ugly head here. You won't want to miss it, so we're going to keep you updated live in this article. Follow along with us as Sony shows us what to expect on PS5 this year and beyond.
