Kangana Ranaut says drugs coming to Himachal from Pakistan: ‘Kids opting for theft, breaking furniture...'

Mint4 days ago
BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has blamed Pakistan for the drug menace in Himachal Pradesh and called for serious action against it. She was reacting to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla's 'Udta Punjab' remark.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the Monsoon session of Parliament on Friday, the Mandi MP said, 'Drug coming to Himachal Pradesh from Pakistan via Punjab is affecting youth and families in the state...'
The actor-turned-politician likened the drug situation in Himachal to that in Punjab and said, 'The situation of drugs in Himachal is so dire that if a strict action isn't initiated soon, the state will become like some of those Punjab villages which only have windows and females now.'
Ranaut also called the Himachali kids very 'gullible, naive and simple,' and said that they are now 'opting for theft; they have sold their parents' jewellery, are stealing cars' for drugs.
'Parents come to us crying. (The kids) lock themselves in rooms, break furniture, scream, and cry for help. This (drugs) is worse than death for them,' she said.
On Thursday, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla warned that if immediate action is not taken to eradicate drug menace, Himachal Pradesh would become "Udta Punjab" in the next five years.
Shukla said that the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases have risen by 340 per cent from around 500 in 2102 to about 2200 in 2023, and expressed concern over the 'rising' menace of substance abuse in the state.
Talking about his campaign against drugs, Shukla said, 'This is not just a campaign but a mission to protect our future generations and preserve the social fabric of our communities.'
He also expressed his displeasure over the 'lack of government rehabilitation centres' in the state, and emphasised the urgent need for the state government to establish a new state-of-the-art de-addiction and rehabilitation centre.

‘Acts on behalf of Pakistan and a disgrace to Assam': Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Gaurav Gogoi over Operation Sindoor speech; says his family holds foreign citizenship, can flee anytime

NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav over his remarks in Parliament during the debate on ' Operation Sindoor ', accusing him of echoing Pakistan's narrative and being a "disgrace to Assam". Taking to social media platform X, Sarma alleged that Gogoi's statements in the Lok Sabha proved he was "acting on behalf of Pakistan". "His secret trip and close ties with the Pakistani establishment speak volumes," Sarma wrote. Himanta claimed that Gogoi's family holds foreign citizenship, questioning his commitment to India. "With his wife and both the kids holding foreign citizenship, he can leave India any time," Sarma said. 'He is a disgrace to Assam and a betrayal of our pride as proud Indians.' Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, had questioned the Modi government's strategy during the recent military operation against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack . He asked why the Centre did not take back Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) if the operation was meant to be "decisive". "The most horrendous terror attacks have happened under your government," Gogoi said in the House, criticising the government for claiming "victory" while asserting that terror threats remained unresolved. His remarks triggered uproar in the Lok Sabha and drew strong criticism from the BJP benches. (With agency inputs)

Mamata Banerjee claims Bengali family assaulted by Delhi police, cops refute

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday claimed that a Bengali-speaking migrant woman and her child were assaulted by Delhi Police personnel, sharing a video of the alleged incident on social media. However, Delhi Police on Monday rejected the allegation, calling the video "fabricated and baseless".In a post on social media platform X, Banerjee wrote: "Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal. See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by the BJP in the country against the Bengalis! Where are they taking our country now?"advertisementThe video shared by Banerjee showed a child with scratches on his ear, followed by visuals of a woman making allegations of assault. DCP East Delhi Abhishek Dhania said that a detailed investigation into the matter had been conducted and the claims were found to be false."Based on technical and local intelligence, as well as CCTV camera footage, we have gathered various evidence. Based on that evidence, we found out that the whole story told by this lady is baseless," he told news agency said the woman in the video had alleged that "four policemen came to their house, took them away to a secluded place and demanded 25,000".However, during interrogation, she admitted that her relative, a political worker based in Malda district, had asked her to make the video, which was then shared with him and subsequently circulated to defame the Delhi Police, the officer said."During the interrogation, she mentioned that her relative, who lives in the Malda district of West Bengal, is a political worker, and on his request, she made this baseless video and shared it with him. Later, he circulated the video in the local media... After a thorough investigation and inquiry, we have concluded that the entire video is baseless and fabricated... Further investigation is still going on," Dhania leader Amit Malviya also criticised Banerjee's remarks, accusing her of spreading misinformation. Sharing the Delhi Police's version, Malviya wrote, "The enquiry reveals that the alleged incident of abduction, extortion, and police misconduct, as claimed in the social media post, is fabricated and baseless. No such incident, as described in the viral video and tweet, has occurred." He added, "Shame on evil Mamata Banerjee for spreading fake news."- EndsMust Watch
