Backup Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta is set to have a career season

Backup Boston Celtics big man Neemias Queta is set to have a career season with his team. After an injury to star Boston forward Jayson Tatum set in motion a series of moves to reshape the roster to a cheaper version of itself while the St. Louis native heals, Queta has now found himself among the roster's candidates to play heavy minutes in the frontcourt rotation, perhaps even garnering a starting role with the Celtics.
Queta had knee surgery this summer to the surprise of many, but seems to have recovered well based on a small sample size of the Portuguese center dominating for his National Team in FIBA EuroBasket play to date. Will he be up to the challenges he faces with the Celtics this season?
Cohost of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, linked up with the Boston big for an exclusive interview about his expanded role with the team in the season ahead. Check it out below!

Three Eastern Conference Players To Watch This Upcoming Season

The Eastern Conference has been lauded by pundits as being far inferior to the Western Conference. The major injuries to Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton have changed the projections for two heavyweights in the conference. Regardless, talent still remains and it'll be interesting to see how impactful those players can be to any of the 15 teams in the conference. This is a continuation of the western edition of this piece. Here are a few players that break the list: Payton Pritchard As mentioned above, there is a huge scoring absence with the injury to Tatum, which will, most likely, knock him out for the entirety of the season. Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis were both traded off while Al Horford may possibly retire. Those four players not returning to the team would result in more than 50 shots per game being up for grabs. Pritchard would make a whole lot of sense to carry some of that offensive burden this season. Last year, Pritchard was a monster with his efficiency. He had the highest points per shot attempt at 128.8 for any point guard in the NBA. Yes, that means he rated higher than players like Tyrese Haliburton, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Steph Curry and Jalen Brunson. That number is likely to change with a heavier offensive load on his shoulders, but it's a positive sign that he was able to post those numbers with a respectable 18.8 usage figure. The really impressive part of all of this is that he had an absurd 8.2 turnover percentage which made him one of only two point guards to accomplish the feat all of last season. Obviously, Pritchard is well respected within the NBA after capturing his first sixth man of the year award just last season. His contract and bench role anchor him to a reputation as a scoring punch off the bench. This year could really change his perception around the NBA, especially if he is able to hit over 40 percent of his three point looks on high volume. Jay Huff Myles Turner was one of the most important players on the Indiana Pacers last season, but ended up walking away after the organization failed to pony up enough money to retain him. So instead the Pacers were forced to survey the trade market to see if they could find an adequate center to replace his production. The Pacers and the Grizzlies made a deal for Huff the day after Turner signed his contract with Milwaukee in July. Huff provides some elements that may be quite attractive to the Pacers. First off, he has shown himself to be a respectable shooter from deep after he drained more than 40 percent of his looks last season. Getting shooting from the position has been a priority for Indiana, especially since they had such a quality shooter in Turner for 10 seasons. Last year, the acquisition of Thomas Bryant showed how valuable they thought it was to maintain a level of shooting, even from a backup at the position. Huff won't be playing with Haliburton next season, but it'll still be incredibly helpful with the pacing of the offense to have a strong shooter to allow the team to play similarly to last season. His rebounding leaves something to be desired, but he is a stalwart defender at the rim. He had a 3.6 block percentage last year for the Grizzlies, which was one of the best marks in the league. He's a worse version of Myles Turner, but if he can be a semblance of that type of player he has a chance to pay huge dividends at his cost (three years, $8 million). Nikola Jovic Jovic has been a consistent plus for Miami over the last couple of seasons. He's an above average shooter that does a little bit of everything on the court. The thing that really stands out is his size and how willing he is to stay moving on offense. He is listed at 6 '10 and the stature is evident when he's on the court because he often draws matchups against much smaller defenders. That becomes really helpful in situations in which he trails the play looking for the three, or jets out ahead of defenders in transition where he can easily finish over them at the basket. The Miami offense is more egalitarian and because of that Jovic often finds himself getting help defenders jumping out at him after the ball whirls around the court. That gives him a distinct advantage at canning open catch and shoot opportunities from deep which he's hit at over a 37 percent clip the past two seasons. He has the potential to be utilized in a way where he could pass out of the top of the key when playing in lineups without Bam Adebayo. His 17.3 assist percentage was well above league average for big men. The physicality is occasionally lacking and he is not the best rebounder. There's no true aspect of his game that stands out, and without a true calling card that could come back to haunt him if his shooting regresses. There's no evidence that should occur so his biggest imperative will be staying healthy for a full season so he can become the positive player that can help Miami become a frisky playoff team this upcoming season.

Former Boston Celtics, New York Knicks Star Plotting UFC Career after Retirement?

Former New York Knicks and Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis is seriously considering becoming the tallest fighter to ever compete in a mixed martial arts cage. When Porzingis entered the NBA a decade ago at 20 years old, he was dubbed a basketball unicorn. The 7-foot-2 Latvian was able to do stunning things for a player of his size. He was very athletic, could shoot from distance, and was an above-average ball handler. Well, it seems he wants to now be a unicorn in another sport: Cage fighting. Also Read: 'MMA is a sport that is very close to my heart. Number one in terms of viewing. That's the thing I'm going to light up on, so I decided to participate in a new MMA project,' Porzingis told Sporta Centrs this week. 'Everything is still in process. When we approach the final result, I'll be able to tell you more. 'I've tried my hand at MMA, but I promised one of the clubs I represented that I would not do so during my career.' The tallest fighter to ever compete in the UFC and MMA in general is 24-fight veteran Stefan Struve. The Dutch star was 7 feet tall. The Knicks and Celtics veteran would beat him by two inches if he made the jump to MMA when he ended his NBA career. Could Kristaps Porzingis make it to the UFC? If Porzingis were truly dedicated to being a serious MMA fighter, his physical gifts alone would give him a big advantage. It takes a pretty good athlete to make it to the NBA. And when healthy, Porzingis has always been an above-average athlete for a player of his size. The big issue is those long legs that have given him the reputation of being injury-prone. Since it would be difficult for almost all of his opponents to reach his head, they will target his legs. Considering how beat up they already are, they could be a major weakness against a heavyweight that knows how to deliver effective kicks. Could Kristaps Porzingis make it to the UFC? It's possible. More than ever, the UFC has leaned toward the entertainment side of fight sports. While they won't let him compete in the Octagon with no experience like they did for WWE legend CM Punk in 2016, if he scored two or three wins on the regional scene, they could definitely fast-track him to the company to bank big money off his NBA notoriety for at least one fight. Match against Ronaldo's Al-Nassr 'once-in-a-lifetime moment' for Indian club FC Goa

Cristiano Ronaldo will travel to India to face FC Goa in an Asian Champions League Two match being hailed as 'historic' in the country. Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia and its superstars were drawn Friday against the Indian Super League (ISL) club in Group D of Asia's second tier club competition, along with Istiklol of Tajikistan and Iraq's Al-Zawraa. The top two from each of the eight groups advance to the second round. 'This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment for FC Goa,' club CEO Ravi Puskur told The Associated Press. 'To host Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the biggest game in Indian club football history.' Ronaldo, 40, has yet to win a major trophy since signing for the Riyadh club in 2022 and the team is expected to be at full strength when the action starts in September Al-Nassr, which finished third in the Saudi Pro League last season, also boasts famous names such as former Liverpool star Sadio Mane and Joao Felix, the Portuguese forward who signed from Chelsea in July. 'For Indian football, this is historic,' Puskur added. 'We are here on merit, and a match like this gives us the chance to show that we can compete on the continental stage, becoming part of the sport's biggest narratives.' Puskur is confident that the excitement will be felt all over the country to give the local game a much-needed boost. 'It's a unique opportunity to bring global attention to Indian football and, most importantly, a chance to spark a greater interest in Indian football among fans across the country, giving the game the spotlight it has long needed,' he said. The draw comes with Indian domestic soccer in crisis. The 2025-26 ISL season was due to start in September, but has been suspended due to uncertainty over the renewal of an organising agreement between the Indian federation and its commercial partner, the Football Sports Development Ltd., pending a Supreme Court order. Bengaluru FC, Odisha FC and Chennaiyin FC have either suspended salaries or ceased soccer operations until a solution is found. 'While the financial boost is important, the bigger picture is the opportunity this creates for long-term growth,' said Puskur. 'The global attention, sponsorship interest, and fan engagement from a moment like this help strengthen the club's foundations, allowing us to invest in the future.'
