Pak Actor Fawad Khan's Film 'Abir Gulaal' Won't Release In India: Sources

NDTV24-04-2025
New Delhi:
Bollywood movie 'Abir Gulaal', starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, won't release in India, sources in the Centre's Information and Broadcasting Ministry have said. The decision comes amid the nationwide outrage over the heinous terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, in which 25 tourists and a Kashmiri were shot dead in cold blood.
The film, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, was to hit the theatres on May 9. Produced by Vivek B Agrawal and directed by Aarti S Bagdi, 'Abir Gulaal' ran into trouble earlier this month when the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena opposed its release in India, citing poor relations between New Delhi and Islamabad. This opposition against the Fawad Khan-starrer became louder in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
According to sources in the Information and Broadcasting ministry, several cinema halls were not ready to screen the movie and several entertainment organisations had demanded its boycott. Now the ministry has also decided to deny permission to its release, the sources have said.

After Asim Munir's nuclear rhetoric, Bilawal Bhutto's war threat to India over Indus Waters Treaty

A day after Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir's fresh nuclear threat against India, former Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has issued another round of war threats against India on Monday, if New Delhi proceeds with changes to the Indus Waters Treaty. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former foreign minister of Pakistan and current head of the Pakistan People's Party, speaks during an interview with AFP at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, DC. (AFP) Speaking at an event organised by the Culture Department of the Government of Sindh, Bilawal Bhutto claimed the diversion of the Indus River's water away from Pakistan is as an attack on the history, culture, and civilisation of the country - particularly Sindh. India put in abeyance the 1960 agreement soon after the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 people. Union home minister Amit Shah had earlier announced that India would never restore the historic accord. 'If Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces an attack on Indus, he attacks our history, our culture and our civilisation,' Bilawal was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune. Bilawal alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of a water project on the Indus amounted to a warning that Pakistan's water supply could be curtailed. He claimed that during his overseas visits, he had raised the issue to highlight what he called India's aggressive water policy. According to him, this 'water aggression' was a response to India's setback in a military clash earlier this year in May. He added that the people of Sindh have always stepped forward to defend the Indus whenever they felt it was under threat. 'The people of Pakistan have the strength to confront Modi in the event of war,' Bilawal said, warning India that another war might result in Pakistan reclaiming all six of its rivers. The former Pakistani foreign minister's threat comes after Field Marshal Munir reportedly said that Pakistan could use its nuclear weapons to take down India and "half the world" in case his country faced an existential threat in a future war with India. In an address to Pakistani diaspora in Florida's Tampa, the Pakistani Army chief also warned that Islamabad would destroy Indian infrastructure if they hit water flow to Pakistan. "We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we will take half the world down with us," media reports quoted him as saying. "We will wait for India to build a dam, and when they do so, we will destroy it," he added. Munir is currently on a visit to the US, his second in two months. Hitting back, the ministry of external affairs said on Monday that Munir's fresh nuclear threat against India reinforced the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in that country, where the military is "hand-in-glove" with terrorist groups and New Delhi will not give in to any nuclear blackmail. Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's 'stock-in-trade', the MEA said, adding that India will continue to take all steps necessary to safeguard its national security. In an apparent message to the US, the ministry said it is also regrettable that these remarks were made from the soil of a 'friendly third country'. Bilawal Bhutto's earlier threat In June, Bilawal said his country would go to war if India denies Islamabad its fair share of water under the Indus Waters Treaty. Bilawal's comments came two days after Pakistan's foreign ministry criticised Shah's 'brazen disregard' for international agreements. Bilawal, in a speech in parliament, rejected the Indian decision to suspend the agreement and threatened to get Pakistan's share of water.

A user said, 'She is extremely beautiful, tall, and confident, but certain women seem to get triggered by it because she is dusky and they can't fathom her getting the kind of recognition and attention. I don't blame these insecure women for being mad; they know they can't match up to her inner and outer hotness." 'The full clip of the interview was far worse; she even taunted Bipasha for looking Manly with muscles," quipped a different user. Meanwhile, people also brought up her conduct in Nach Baliye and the way she acted on the BeerBiceps podcast. Farah Khan Reveals Kamal Haasan Was Her First Choice For Main Hoon Na: 'He Asked Me To Duck Off'

Last Updated: Farah Khan revealed she first offered Main Hoon Na's villain role to Kamal Haasan – and his response was hilarious. Farah Khan's cooking vlog with Shruti Haasan recently turned into an unexpected Bollywood throwback, when the filmmaker revealed that her debut film almost looked very different. During the casual kitchen chat, Farah recalled approaching Shruti's father, Kamal Haasan, for a key role in her 2004 hit Main Hoon Na. To her surprise, the veteran actor turned it down – in a way only he could! 'Kamal sir was my first choice for Main Hoon Na, but then Suniel Shetty played that role. I went to Chennai to his office and narrated him the script, and he politely asked me to duck off," Farah laughed, without sharing why he refused. Why Kamal Haasan Said No to Farah Khan's Debut In the film, the role in question was the antagonist, Raghavan Dutta, who stood against Shah Rukh Khan's Major Ram in the Indo-Pak peace mission storyline. The part eventually went to Suniel Shetty, whose performance became one of the film's highlights. Farah revealed she had flown to Chennai to personally narrate the script to Kamal, convinced he was perfect for the part. Instead, she left with a polite but clear rejection – and a story she now tells with a smile. Farah Khan's Main Hoon Na Journey and Its Success Released in 2004, Main Hoon Na became a commercial and critical success. The Shah Rukh Khan-led cast included Sushmita Sen, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao, and was packed with hit songs like Tumse Milke and Main Hoon Na. Made on a budget of Rs 25 crore, it earned over Rs 70 crore worldwide, mixing campus comedy, family drama, romance and action in one package. The plot followed Major Ram as he went undercover in a college to protect a general's daughter while mending his own fractured family ties. Main Hoon Na was first released in cinemas on April 30, 2004. It not only marked Zayed Khan's entry in Bollywood but was also Farah Khan's directorial debut. Main Hoon Naa 2 With Shah Rukh Khan In The Works? As per reports, now, after nearly two decades, SRK and Farah Khan may reunite once again. According to Pinkvilla, Farah is developing a script for Main Hoon Na 2 under Red Chillies Entertainment, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan's production banner. A source close to the project revealed earlier this year, 'Farah has come up with an idea for the sequel, and Shah Rukh loves the direction she's planning to take. The screenplay is currently in progress, with collaboration between Farah's writing team and in-house writers at Red Chillies." Kamal Haasan's Recent Work Kamal Haasan was last seen in the Tamil film Thug Life, reuniting with director Mani Ratnam after 37 years. Despite the hype, it collected only Rs 97.25 crore globally. The actor is now working on S Shankar's Indian 3, with its release date yet to be announced. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
