How to watch 'Dexter: Resurrection' and what to expect from Michael C. Hall's return
The Dexter revival series is chock-full of new uber-villains, with big celebrity names like: Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter. It takes place in a Gotham-esque New York City, where serial killers are summoned for a MurderCon-style meetup.
"They don't all live in New York City, but let's say they've been invited there; it's a gathering," Dexter creator and executive producer Clyde Phillips told USA Today. "This season is a unique launching pad for however many years this series will be going."
Here's what to know about Dexter: Resurrection, including how to watch, a quick recap of the franchise and a look at the cast.
The original Dexter series follows Dexter Morgan (Hall), who struggles with strong homicidal urges and calls it his Dark Passenger. His adoptive father and police officer, Harry Morgan (James Remar), teaches him how to control these dark thoughts by following a code, only killing those who have escaped justice. Dexter's ability to control these urges is the central theme of the show, while trying to maintain a normal life as a forensic technician for the Miami Metro Police Department. The 8-season show ran from 2006 to 2013.
The sequel series Dexter: New Blood is set 10 years after the events of the Dexter finale and ran from 2021 to 2022. It follows Dexter Morgan trying to live a quiet life under the alias 'Jim Lindsay' in a small town in upstate New York. Events lead him to kill again, waking up his Dark Passenger, while also reconnecting with his son, Harrison. The finale ends with Harrison shooting and killing his dad. Or so we thought...
Then there was Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series that takes place 15 years before the events of Dexter and debuted in 2024. It looks at a young Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson), who first starts working for the Miami Metro Police Department while learning to channel his dark urges. It was announced in April that Season 2 has been greenlighted for production.

The official summary for the series says, 'Dexter: Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right.
But closure won't come easy. When Miami Metro's Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined — and that the only way out is together.'
Below is a list of returning characters, including the Trinity Killer, as well as new, star-studded additions:
Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan
James Remar as Harry Morgan (Dexter's adopted father)
David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista (Miami Metro Police Department)
Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan (Dexter's son)
Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater (billionaire venture capitalist with an invested interest in serial killers)
Uma Thurman as Charley (former special ops officer; Prater's head of security)
Krysten Ritter as Mia (sommelier by day, serial killer 'Lady Vengeance' by night)
Neil Patrick Harris as Lowell (an anesthesiologist with a serial killer alter ego known as 'The Tattoo Collector')
Eric Stonestreet as Al (Midwestern serial killer known as "Rapunzel')
David Dastmalchian as Gareth ("The Gemini Killer')
Steve Schirripa as Vinny (a greedy slumlord)
John Lithgow as Arthur Mitchell (a.k.a. 'The Trinity Killer')
Jimmy Smits as Miguel Prado (a former assistant district attorney)
At the end of Dexter: New Blood, fans are led to believe that Dexter Morgan had finally met his fate after his son shot him.
'Well, you know, he didn't get shot in the head,' Hall shrugged as he spoke with the Guardian in an interview, saying it was his idea to resurrect the character.
'The conversation started as a result of my saying, 'What if he didn't die?'' he said in a relaxed way, according to the Guardian. 'I can't take credit for the whole scope of what we're up to, but it was a notion that I casually floated. What if the end of New Blood was something that enabled Dexter to relinquish some burden that he'd been carrying for a long time?'

Benson Boone Flies Back To No. 1 With One Of The Biggest Pop Songs In Years
Benson Boone's 'Beautiful Things' returns to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart as other American Heart singles gain ground across Billboard rankings. (Photo by Nina Westervelt/Billboard via Getty Images) Billboard via Getty Images A month into its run on the Billboard charts, Benson Boone's sophomore album American Heart continues to descend. This week, the set falls outside the top 40 on both the Top Album Sales and Top Streaming Albums rankings, and it comes dangerously close to slipping from that region on the Billboard 200. Several singles from the project are still performing relatively well — one even reaches a new peak on several tallies — but the spotlight remains, as always, on 'Beautiful Things.' The track that turned Boone into a household name is somehow still reigning supreme in America. To this day, 'Beautiful Things' remains a hit, jumping back into first place on the Adult Contemporary radio list. In the previous frame, the tune held in the runner-up spot behind 'Lose Control' by Teddy Swims, another historic leader to emerge in the past year. This time around, the two swap spots, with Boone hitting No. 1 again. 'Beautiful Things' has now spent 73 weeks on the Adult Contemporary chart. That's a long time, even for a ranking known for its lengthy stays. The global smash has led the tally for 13 nonconsecutive frames. It first climbed to No. 1 in March and has risen and fallen since, but it's never strayed too far from the summit. It was just a few weeks ago, on the chart dated July 12, that 'Beautiful Things' last claimed the throne. That week, 'Beautiful Things' sat at No. 1 while 'Lose Control' was pushed to second place. Then, the two traded positions, and 'Lose Control' has ruled ever since, until this period. Benson Boone Lands Three Adult Contemporary Hits Boone currently occupies three spots on the Adult Contemporary ranking, with his oldest hit being the biggest. 'Sorry, I'm Here for Someone Else' climbs to a new all-time high of No. 11, while fellow American Heart single 'Mystical Magical' debuts at No. 25. Boone earns his fifth career win on this list as the latter track arrives. Both 'Sorry, I'm Here for Someone Else' and 'Mystical Magical' have now landed on all three of Billboard's pop radio rankings. Those two tracks — as well as 'Beautiful Things' — also live on the all-genre Radio Songs tally.
