I would give Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha the same advice I would tell Lamine Yamal
Freddy Adu, the former United States international best known for his emergence as a teenager, has urged Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha to stay grounded in his attempts to make the senior grade at Anfield. Adu became the youngest athlete to sign a professional contract in American sports history when he penned a deal with DC United in 2004 at the tender age of 14. But despite becoming the youngest player to make their debut in Major League Soccer that year before a call-up to the United States national side in 2006, Adu struggled to live up the impossible hype on the other side of the Atlantic, and ended up having a nomadic career that saw him turn out for 15 clubs in total before retiring in 2021. READ MORE: Virgil van Dijk reveals Liverpool transfer expectations before summer deadline - 'I can't lie' READ MORE: Steve Parish makes major Marc Guehi exit claim after Liverpool transfer interest - 'No doubt' Ngumoha has quickly established himself as a young winger with huge potential during his year with the Reds so far and the 16-year-old has caught the eye with an impressive showing this summer, scoring three times for Arne Slot's Premier League champions during pre-season. Adu admits he was put on notice by Ngumoha's early strike in the friendly victory over Athletic Club at Anfield last week and the now 37-year-old has some words of advice for an England youth international whose reputation is beginning to soar. "So I didn't know much about him as a player until I heard about him because of the game against Athletic Bilbao," Adu, speaking exclusively to epl odds said. "But for him to be able to do that at the age of 16, that's impressive. "For any 16-year-old to do that, that's not by accident, especially doing it for a club like Liverpool. That's not by accident. "For you to be able to do that at that age, you clearly have to be uber talented and for him, I would say the same thing as I would say for Lamine Yamal - just keep the main thing, the main thing. "Keep it about football. Don't make it about anything else. People are going to sing your praises when you do well, and the same people are going to just pile on you when you're not doing well. "So you can't get too high and you can't get too low, you gotta sort of keep an even keel. Keep your head down, keep doing exactly what you were doing that got you to where you are." Ngumoha was an unused substitute during Sunday's Community Shield penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley.

'It's great to bring people together to both recognise Patrick's service to York City and at the same time, raise funds for Menfulness, who do such brilliant work across the city.' At the event 2012 promotion-winning manager Gary Mills and Captain Chris Smith will be joined by 2022 promotion-winner Matty Brown and the popular former City striker Clayton Donaldson. Set up by five friends in 2016, Menfulness provides in-person and online support to men in the York area. The veteran midfielder has already had numerous events confirmed to celebrate his career with York, starting on Sunday, August 17, with Paddy and past and present teammates being hosted by York Hospital Ball at Haxby Social Club. A Footgolf Family Day will follow on Sunday, August 31 from 10am until 2pm at York Footgolf, Shipton Road. Paddy has previously told The Press he is 'overwhelmed by the support' shown by the club, ex-teammates and supporters for his testimonial year ahead. 'People have said a lot of nice things, and it's a strange feeling honestly, a strange experience, to have so many people saying so many nice things about you. It's been lovely. 'There will be members of the two promotion-winning teams and of the current squad down there at the foot golf event at the end of August, so it should be a good day. 'It's my tenth season at the club, and traditionally that's the milestone or the mark you have to hit to be offered the testimonial.'

Florian Thauvin joins Lens from Udinese
RC Lens have confirmed the signing of Florian Thauvin (32) from Udinese on a contract that will tie him to the club until 2028. Thauvin returns to a league that he is intimately familiar with, having made 289 appearances and scored 86 goals across stints with SC Bastia and Olympique de Marseille. The 2018 World Cup winner was also on the books for Lens's bitter rivals, Lille OSC, but strangely enough, his time with Les Dogues will likely have done him more favours in the eyes of the Lensois faithful. The Frenchman joined Lille from Bastia midway through the 2012/13 season and was loaned immediately back to the Corsican club. In the 2013 summer transfer window, the forward then signed for Marseille in acrimonious circumstances, with Thauvin later telling Le Media Carré, 'They made me look like the bad guy, but I was used as a bargaining chip. I never played for the club, and they made €10m on me.' With Thauvin set to be the centre-piece of this new Lens attack, the Derby du Nord looks as if it will have some added spice behind it, with old wounds certain to resurface. GFFN | Nick Hartland
