Zach Neto hits 2 homers, Angels overcome Shohei Ohtani's 42nd HR for a 7-4 win over the Dodgers
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Zach Neto hit his eighth leadoff home run of the season and added another homer in the sixth, and the Los Angeles Angels overcame Shohei Ohtani's 42nd homer during an eighth-inning rally in their 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Mike Trout had a two-run single and Yoán Moncada drove in two runs for the Angels, who are improbably 4-0 in the Freeway Series this season. The defending World Series champion Dodgers' lead over San Diego in the NL West also slipped to just one game for the first time since June 14 with the Padres' win over San Francisco. The Dodgers trailed 7-0 before Ohtani homered in his third straight game, driving a solo shot to right in the eighth inning. Ohtani has a 10-game hitting streak in August, and he has four homers among his nine hits in the Dodgers' last five games. Max Muncy followed with a three-run homer to slash the Angels' big lead, but Connor Brogdon ended the eighth before Kenley Jansen earned his 22nd save. Angels right fielder Gustavo Campero got injured while chasing Muncy's drive into the short porch. He was taken off the field on a cart. José Soriano (8-9) allowed only two singles and two walks while throttling the Dodgers over six scoreless innings of two-hit ball. Neto reached base five times during his third career multihomer game, starting when he crushed Yoshinobu Yamamoto's first career pitch in Anaheim for his 18th homer. Yamamoto (10-8) had one of the poorest outings in his solid season, yielding six runs on six hits and five walks while failing to get out of the fifth inning. Key moment Bryce Teodosio and Neto scored in the fifth on Trout's bases-loaded single. Moncada and Campero added RBIs while the Angels chased Yamamoto. Lakers jersey history No. 3 — Devean George
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary. As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years. Here's a look at Devean George, a forward who played for the Lakers during the 2000s. George, a 6-foot-8 forward, was a star at Augsburg University (then known as Augsburg College), a Division III school located in Minneapolis, Minn., where he won back-to-back Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference MVP awards. Despite playing at a small school that very few people outside of the Midwest were familiar with, George was drafted by the Lakers with the No. 23 selection in the 1999 NBA Draft. He got very little playing time in his first two seasons, but he started to crack coach Phil Jackson's rotation during the 2001-02 season, his third in the league. He started to become a decent 3-point shooter and defender, and he won the NBA championship in each of his first three pro seasons. However, George never became a truly viable NBA player. He lacked the ability to put the ball on the floor and make plays without getting out of control and committing a turnover, and he was a bit inconsistent with his outside shooting. Despite being considered the most athletically talented player on the Lakers' roster, outside of perhaps Kobe Bryant, he just didn't pan out. In retrospect, some felt the Lakers made a mistake by not selecting Russian forward Andrei Kirilenko, whom the Utah Jazz chose with the No. 24 pick in 1999. Once Kirilenko made his NBA debut in the 2001-02 campaign, he instantly became an impactful complementary player on both ends of the floor, and he enjoyed a productive 13-year NBA career. But George did just well enough to stick with L.A. for seven seasons. He ended up playing 11 seasons in the league and averaging 5.6 points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.5 minutes a game.

Kansas City Chiefs OL coach Andy Heck recaps Josh Simmons' preseason debut
During Tuesday's training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach Andy Heck shared his thoughts on rookie left tackle Josh Simmons' preseason debut last Saturday. "It's a big job for anybody coming in to learn the details of the offense, assignments (and) techniques. Every play has a thousand little details and so picking those things up, that was job one in the spring where he (Josh Simmons) was doing less physical work with us." said Heck, "Since he has gotten to training camp, he's been able to every day add one or two of these details that are important to each play. So, I've seen him steadily improve, and his understanding - and we're able to have better conversations about what's going on and I think that'swhat we'll see his trajectory do is just go like this (points up)." Simmons played briefly in the starting lineup against the Arizona Cardinals but made a positive impression. Heck was happy with Simmons' performance, but refuses to compare him to anyone he's worked with through his coaching career. "I'd hesitate to compare guys; every guy is different. I'm still in a learning process myself, of what makes him (Josh Simmons) tick, how does he learn best (and) how can I help him get better? There's constant communication there," said Heck, "But I would say he's certainly as talented a player as I've ever been around. He loves the game. So, those are two good things: when you're talented and you love the game, and you want to be the best, you've got a great chance to be a good one." Simmons earned Third-Team All-Big Ten honors for the 2024 National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Saturday's game was his first since suffering a patellar tendon injury, ending his college career.
