There's a good reason why legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni has earned the moniker 'Captain Cool'; he is among those who rarely shows emotions on the field regardless of the match situation and has ice in his veins when it comes to handling the toughest of chases.
Dhoni, however, is human at the end of the day and shows his emotions on the rare occasion. One such moment was during Chennai Super Kings' final game of the 18th Indian Premier League season , against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Sunday .

Dhoni loses cool over Pathirana and Dube
'Thala' looked visibly irritated while trying to set the field ahead of Ravindra Jadeja's over around the halfway mark of GT's chase, with Matheesha Pathirana and Shivam Dube apparently guilty of not listening to their skipper's instructions, which was picked up by the commentators as well.
And to highlight why every member of the team should listen to Dhoni regardless of whether they're a junior or a senior member of the team, Jadeja struck twice in the over, removing set batter Sai Sudharsan (41) and Shahrukh Khan (19) – who had added 55 for the fourth wicket. And the catchers – Pathirana and Dube at short third man and backward point respectively.

CSK ended what was their most forgettable IPL season ever on a positive note, thrashing current leaders Gujarat Titans by 83 runs at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium after setting them a challenging 231-run target.
Dewald Brevis (57 off 23) and Devon Conway (52 off 35) slammed half-centuries as CSK posted 230/5 after Dhoni opted to bat. The famed GT top-order, on the other hand, departed cheaply during the chase, leaving a relatively untested middle-order to steer the team out of trouble for the second consecutive match.

The Titans, however, ended up producing their most sorry batting performance of the season so far, getting bundled out for 147 with Anshul Kamboj (3/13) and Noor Ahmad (3/21) collecting three wickets each, leaving Shubman Gill's men needing other teams to help them finish among the top-two teams at the end of the league stage.
Despite their commanding victory, CSK finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in IPL's 17-year existence.

Post real money gaming bill, questions aplenty for Indian cricket

IPL may feel aftershocks One of the knock-on effects of a blanket ban could be felt by Indian cricket, especially the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL). Various IPL teams as well as the competition itself are tied up with various real money gaming firms, including Dream XI and My11Circle. Even if Indian cricket will not have a lot of problems onboarding new sponsors — if they want to go down that path — there may be some short term pain. "Fantasy gaming platforms like My11Circle and Dream11 have become heavyweight backers of Indian sports," said Santosh N, managing partner of D & P Advisory, an independent valuation company. "My11Circle has committed Rs 625 cr for an IPL associate sponsorship slot, while Dream11 has consistently backed franchises such as Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad as title or principal sponsors. My11Circle is currently an IPL associate sponsor at the league level, contributing a large share of central sponsorship revenue. Separately, Dream11 has team-level sponsorships, serving as Title Partner and Principal Partners for some teams. Together, fantasy sports brands account for hundreds of crores in sponsorship inflows, making IPL one of the most exposed properties to a potential ban." Dream11, as it stands, is the Indian team's 'lead sponsor' but that is scheduled to end after next year's men's T20 World Cup. "Banning it would strip IPL and many smaller leagues of vital funding, compress marketing budgets, and likely curb the steady upward trend in sponsorship revenues." Santosh added. My11Circle also counts a number of active Indian cricketers as their brand ambassadors. Per the bill, they can't endorse any of these products. Set for a challenge? If and when it becomes law, the gaming companies may decide to challenge its constitutionality. Sports lawyers this newspaper spoke to said that fantasy games like Dream11 are 'games of skill' according to a Supreme Court judgment a few years earlier. A Dream11 spokesperson 'declined to comment' for multiple questions raised by this mast. The bill caught a lot of industry stakeholders off guard, especially because this government's previous moves with respect to the online gaming industry was seen as favouring them. It's been reported that the government are now citing national security as well as social issues for this step.

BCCI quickly shuts down question on India-Pakistan clash during Asia Cup squad announcement

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar found themselves in a tricky situation when a reporter put forth a question on the Men in Blue's upcoming Asia Cup clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, which takes place just months after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Chairman of Selectors Ajit Agarkar announce India's squad for the Asia Cup at a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday, 19 August. AP The drama surrounding India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup finally came to an end on Tuesday with India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar unveiling the Men in Blue's XV at the BCCI's Mumbai headquarters. The highlight of the selection meeting and the subsequent announcement was Test captain Shubman Gill being named vice-captain of the T20I side, and senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah returning to the shortest format after more than a year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Also raising eyebrows during the squad announcement was the absence of Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal from the squad, with the latter having played a key role in helping Punjab Kings reach the Indian Premier League final. Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, the latter having won the IPL Purple Cap earlier this year, also did not find a mention with Harshit Rana getting picked ahead of them. BCCI steps in to stop question on India-Pakistan fixture Another standout moment from Tuesday's press conference was a reporter asking Agarkar for his opinion on India's upcoming fixture against Pakistan in Dubai on 14 September. The decision to group arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the same group just months after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor has been heavily criticised on social media. The BCCI, additionally, has been slammed for remaining silent on the matter and for not taking the sentiment of the nation, particularly the families of those who lost their loved ones in the Pahalgam attack, into consideration. 'Looking at this Asia Cup, there is a big game on the 14th, India versus Pakistan. With everything that has happened between the two countries over the last two months, how will you approach that game,' asked the reporter. The BCCI media manager, however, quickly stepped in and responded on Agarkar's behalf, dismissing his query on the Indo-Pak controversy. 'If you have a question regarding the team selection, you can ask that,' the media manager said. Indian and Pakistani teams led by Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Hafeez respectively were scheduled to meet at the World Championship of Legends last month. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The Indians, who had defeated the Pakistanis in the final of the inaugural edition last year, boycotted both matches including the semi-final, in solidarity with the Pahalgam victims as well as the Indian armed forces.
