Yellow Line may finally open by August 15
Rao visited the protest site at Lalbagh, where hundreds of citizens, led by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, had gathered to demand the immediate opening of the RV Road-Bommasandra Yellow Line. Surya handed over a written appeal, highlighting the prolonged delays in operationalising the Yellow Line.
Explaining the technical status, Rao said, 'The Independent Safety Assessment report is expected next week. Once received, we will proceed with safety inspections, and the line will be ready for operations.'
The protest was sparked by BMRCL's repeated delays in opening the Yellow Line, a critical corridor meant to ease traffic to IT/BT hubs like Silk Board and Electronics City. Surya slammed the agency for missing deadlines, and warned of public protests at every unopened Metro station if the August commitment is not met.
'If the commitment to open the line in August is also broken, people will have no option but to protest outside each of the Yellow Line's unopened stations,' he said.

‘P4 focused on long term benefits, not immediate politics': Foundation Vice Chairman
VIJAYAWADA: With criticism emerging from various quarters about the forceful adoption of 'Bangaru Kutumbams' by 'Margadarshis' (mentors) under the P4 program, Swarna Andhra P4 Foundation Vice Chairman C. Kutumba Rao clarified that P4 is a strategic, people-centric movement launched with the sole objective of improving lives across Andhra Pradesh. 'It is a mission for the people, by the people, and to the people - cutting across political lines, communities, regions, or economic status. The program is built on participation, not politics,' Rao said in a release issued on Monday. He stated that the P4 (Public-Private-People Partnership) initiative aims to enhance people's participation for the progress and prosperity of Andhra Pradesh. CM Naidu is fully aware that P4 may not bring immediate political dividends, yet he has chosen to lead this initiative with full commitment because the well-being of the people comes first, not politics. The program demands significant effort, coordination, and energy, but its focus remains clear: to create a platform where citizens, businesses, NRIs come together in service of society.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya urges BMRCL to install platform screen doors, boost safety at RV Road Metro Station
Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya has written to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) urging urgent safety upgrades at RV Road Metro Station. The station will serve as the interchange point between the new Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra and the existing Green Line. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. (Sansad TV) Also Read - Former Karnataka minister KN Rajanna alleges 'big conspiracy' after resignation from cabinet In his letter to BMRCL Managing Director Dr J Ravishankar, Surya warned that the difference in train frequencies between the two lines — 25 minutes on the Yellow Line initially, compared to 4–8 minutes on the Green and Purple Lines — could lead to serious overcrowding during peak hours. 'This disparity might pose an issue of overcrowding at the interchange station of RV Road, especially during peak hours, due to walk-in crowds along with commuters from the Green Line,' he wrote. Highlighting previous concerns raised at other busy interchange stations, such as Majestic, Surya called it 'imperative' for BMRCL to install platform screen doors, barricades, accurate signage, and deploy additional security personnel to prevent accidents and manage crowd flow. He also referred to the recent CMRS inspection report, which recommended signage improvements at multiple stations, including Jayadeva. It is essential to put necessary crowd control and safety protocols in place at the earliest,' Surya urged, requesting BMRCL to share details of the measures to be implemented. The Yellow Line's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10 is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Bommasandra and Silk Board, and further to RV Road for onward travel toward Madavara on the Green Line.

MP Tejasvi slams delays, ballooning costs of Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line
BENGALURU: A day after the launch of Namma Metro's Yellow Line, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya hit out at the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) over the delay and escalating costs of the Pink Line. Speaking to TNIE onboard a train on the Yellow Line on Monday, Surya said the elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, earlier set for opening in September 2025, will now be ready only by March 2026. The underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagavara, originally targeted for opening on June 2026, is now slated for September 2026. Surya expressed frustration over BMRCL's repeated delays and ballooning costs, citing examples from previous phases. Phase 1's budget rose from Rs 6,300 crore in 2005 to Rs 14,000 crore, and Phase 2's from Rs 26,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 40,000 crore in 2024, he said, calling it an undue burden on taxpayers despite high demand for Metro connectivity. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on Sunday confirmed the new timelines and revealed that the proposed Phase 3A corridor (Red line) — 36.58 km from Sarjapur to Hebbal, costing Rs 28,405 crore — has had its Detailed Project Report (DPR) returned to the state for cost review under benchmarking guidelines. The ministry urged the state to expedite the process and prepare a long-term Metro master plan for Bengaluru. Surya also flagged the need to increase Metro train frequency, especially on the Yellow Line, with more train sets expected by year-end. He said, 'I spoke to the MD of Titagarh Rail Systems (the company which is manufacturing and supplying train sets) and he says that from October two trains will be available per month and by the end of August, the fourth train will also be added.'
