GoFundMe raises money for Mass. teen's funeral after crash

A GoFundMe is raising money to help with the funeral of a 17-year-old who died in a crash in Deerfield on Sunday. Joshua Mizula-Samson, 17, of Hatfield, died in a Deerfield crash Sunday morning after his car rolled over and struck a fire hydrant on Greenfield Road in Deerfield, Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan's office said. The teenager had a passenger with him, who was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with non-life-threatening injuries, Sullivan's office said. Deerfield police, Massachusetts State Police detectives with Sullivan's office and the State Police troopers with the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating the crash. Mizula-Samson was identified by friends and family in the GoFundMe. The 17-year-old was remembered for loving to work on his trucks and cars. He went to Smith Vocational School in Northampton and was studying to become an automotive technician. 'He loved working on his trucks and cars, hanging out with his friends, and fishing down on the river,' the GoFundMe stated. He also loved his family. 'Most of all, Joshua loved his mother, Ashley Mizula, and father, Ernie Samson, and will continue to look out for both of them from above,' the GoFundMe read. The GoFundMe is aiming to raise $18,000 to cover funeral costs and living expenses 'to alleviate the stress and financial burden during this difficult time.' As of Tuesday morning, it had raised more than $15,000. Tools formed to make a cross hung above a growing memorial of flowers, heartfelt notes and a single cigar where the crash happened. 'You were a bright light in everyone's life,' one message at the memorial read. 'Heaven gained an angel,' another message read.
