Taron Egerton explains why he turned down Wolverine role in Marvel's future X-Men plans
Speaking during promotion for his Apple TV+ series Smoke, Egerton shared why he has chosen to pass on the opportunity.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Egerton acknowledged the ongoing support from fans, calling it 'lovely,' but distanced himself from the idea of taking over the role made iconic by Hugh Jackman.
'There was a moment… where I thought, 'That'd be cool,'' he said. However, he explained that Jackman's return in Deadpool & Wolverine felt appropriate and added, 'Quite right too.'
When asked if he would reconsider if offered the role now, Egerton replied, 'They are some big shoes to fill… I don't know that I want that much attention on me, frankly.'
He emphasised his preference for his current level of fame, stating, 'I'm very comfortable with the level it's at now, where I get asked for a selfie maybe a couple of times a day.'
In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Egerton said he finds the fan support flattering but added, 'No one is ever going to accept anyone in that role other than Hugh Jackman.'
With Marvel reportedly planning a new X-Men lineup following Secret Wars, fans continue to speculate who will take on key roles.

Denzel and A$AP Rocky face city-wide showdown in Spike Lee's Kurosawa-inspired thriller
Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are reuniting after nearly two decades, and their latest collaboration is anything but quiet. Highest 2 Lowest, the new film from Apple and A24, sees the acclaimed duo return with a Kurosawa-inspired crime thriller set against the gritty chaos of present-day New York City. The film, which debuted out of competition at Cannes, hits cinemas August 15 before streaming on Apple TV+ from September 5. The story reimagines Akira Kurosawa's 1963 classic High and Low, this time through the lens of a modern music industry tycoon. Denzel Washington stars as a powerful mogul whose world is thrown into crisis after a kidnapping gone wrong leads to an explosive spiral of extortion, violence, and moral reckoning. Joining him is A$AP Rocky, whose role has already sparked praise from Lee, who called the rapper 'underrated and committed.' The cast also features Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Dean Winters, creating a uniquely high-stakes ensemble for this noir revival. This marks the fifth and possibly final collaboration between Lee and Washington, a detail the director hinted at during the film's press rounds. 'This is it, five,' Lee said, calling Highest 2 Lowest a culmination of their creative journey. Shot with Lee's signature visual punch and set to a pulsing urban score, the film brings class tensions, cultural fault lines, and personal sacrifice into a single narrative thread. From red carpets to ransom calls, this is a story where the stakes are financial, emotional, and deeply human. Behind the camera, the film was co-written by Alan Fox and Lee, with production from Escape Artists, Mandalay Pictures, and 40 Acres and a Mule. Executive producers include Katia Washington, Peter Guber, and Matthew Lindner, among others. Expect a sleek, stylised showdown when Highest 2 Lowest drops, one that pushes Lee's legacy and Washington's gravitas into bold, uncharted territory.

Marvel actor Tom Holland marked the official start of filming for Spider‑Man: Brand New Day by sharing a new Instagram post today, introducing fans to his revamped Spider‑Man suit and catching attention online with behind-the-scenes glimpses. In the short clip—which garnered hundreds of thousands of views—Holland walks up to the camera in full costume amid a Glasgow street transformed to look like Manhattan, asks 'Are we ready?', then takes off running before the movie title appears. Fans immediately took note of the suit's bold upgrades, including a larger spider emblem, raised webbing lines, and visible web-shooters—reminiscent of suits from earlier Spider-Man eras. Florence Pugh and 'Peaky Blinders' star Finn Cole stir rumor mill with engagement speculation
Oscar-nominated actress Florence Pugh is reportedly engaged to Peaky Blinders actor Finn Cole after quietly dating for the past year. According to The Sun, the pair, both 29, have been growing closer out of the public eye and are now planning to marry. Though Pugh and Cole have never officially confirmed their relationship, speculation first emerged in September 2023 after the two were seen leaving the after-party for the London premiere of The Perfect Couple together. A source told The Sun, 'Finn and Florence have been in a bubble getting to know each other away from the spotlight... They've found something special between them.' While Pugh has not named Cole directly, she acknowledged being in a relationship during an October 2023 interview with Vogue, where she described herself as 'very much in love.' She also shared that she is approaching her current romance differently than past relationships, saying she's taking things slowly and allowing the connection to develop naturally. Cole, best known for his role as Michael Gray in Peaky Blinders, made a quiet appearance alongside Pugh at the premiere of her Marvel film Thunderbolts, where he posed solo but later appeared in a group photo with Pugh's friends and family—fueling further speculation about their closeness. The pair have also been spotted together at events like Glastonbury Festival, and Pugh has shown public support for Cole's theatre work on Instagram. Prior to Cole, Pugh was in a long-term relationship with actor Zach Braff, which ended in 2022. She later dated photographer Charlie Gooch and was briefly linked to Harry Styles. Despite their efforts to remain private, Pugh's evolving relationship with Cole appears to be moving toward a more serious, long-term commitment.
