Disney Lorcana
The key aspect of the Fabled expansion is not simply adding new cards. As with many trading card games as a whole, refreshing the meta is an important step in a game's lifecycle. This would give newer players an opportunity to enter the game on a fresh slate. However, at the same time, it would inadvertently cause some friction amongst existing invested players who have their current cards rendered obsolete.
Lorcana is rotating out its earliest four sets (The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into the Inklands, Ursula's Return) from the 'Core Constructed' competitive format. Although these sets will still be legal in the new 'Infinity Constructed' format, this move brings a fresh metagame, ensuring new strategies and helping level the playing field for those who started after the earliest launches.
Brand new rarities spice up collecting and gameplay. The 'Epic' rarity adds a shiny tier between Legendary and Enchanted, offering striking borderless art of past favorites, while 'Iconic' rarity cards are sure to become coveted highlights for every collector.
Fabled stands out by reprinting over half of its card list from earlier sets. This is a huge win for anyone who missed iconic cards the first time around; fan favorites return with updated set symbols, new rarity treatments, and sometimes brand-new art or foiling styles.
Originally printed in the second Lorcana expansion, Rise of the Floodborn, Robin Hood – Capable Fighter returns to control the early game and get rid of small, key support characters in an exclusive reveal to Geek Culture ahead of the Fabled set's release.
Here are some ways you'll see this legend used to maximum effect –
Synergy Plays: Pair Robin Hood with cards that trigger off damaged characters or amplify direct damage. Equipment like Robin's Bow or supportive locations can multiply his impact.
Continuous Threat: His ability makes opponents second-guess leaving fragile characters out, forcing more conservative strategies and gaining you tempo.
Combo Potential: Decks that can repeatedly ready Robin with effects or recover him quickly can use his ping multiple times per game, locking down the board.
The biggest benefit of playing Robin Hood – Capable Fighter would be having the option to shift into Robin Hood – Champion of Sherwood (though as of writing we are unsure if this card will be available in the new meta) or the existing Robin Hood – Sneaky Slueth who will linger on in the metagame a while longer, allowing him to gain greater relevance in the late game as well.
As the spoiler season rolls on, we shall see if Robin Hood goes back to his old ways or gains a new form to wreak terror on the battlefield. We know for sure that Robin Hood will be joining up with Officer Judy Hopps in the upcoming Whispers in the Well preconstructed deck, with the other fox favourite Nick Wilde nowhere to be seen.
On the upside, if you already have a playset of Robin Hood – Capable Fighter, you'll be able to continue using him until 2027 before the card gets possibly rotated out once again.
Gerald currently straddles between his love of video games and board gaming. There's nothing that interests him more than trying out the newest and fanciest gadget in town as well. He dreams of publishing a board game sometime in the future! disney lorcana fabled lorcana Trading Card Game

If you had missed out on getting onto the Lorcana trading card game bandwagon back in its initial release, the upcoming Fabled expansion, releasing on 29 August 2025, will help you easily get up to speed. 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Trailer Brings War To Fire-Ravaged Pandora
It was three years ago that James Cameron expanded his Avatar universe with the aquatic Metkayina clan of Pandora, as suggested by the title The Way of Water . In the same vein, Avatar: Fire and Ash will introduce the Ash People, with the first trailer offering an extended look at the new Na'vi clan in action… and at war. Previously shown exclusively in theatres ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps , the clip has been officially revealed by Disney following online leaks. In it, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington, Clash of the Titans ), his partner Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña, Guardians of the Galaxy ), and their family are reeling from the loss of eldest son and brother Neteyam, as they join forces with the Metkayina to fight against the Ash People, led by Varang, who have seemingly allied with Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang, Tombstone ), now sporting dramatic white, black, and red warpaint. Varang, as previously reported, is played by Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin, representing a morally complex character who will do whatever it takes to protect her people, even if it means resorting to questionable actions. Also reprising their roles are Sigourney Weaver ( Alien ) as Kiri, the adopted daughter of Jake and Neytiri, and Jack Champion ( Scream VI ) as Spider. The film's official synopsis reads, 'Jake and Neytiri's family grapples with grief after Neteyam's death, encountering a new, aggressive Na'vi tribe, the Ash People, who are led by the fiery Varang, as the conflict on Pandora escalates and a new moral focus emerges.' While a runtime hasn't been announced, Cameron shared that Avatar: Fire and Ash 'will be a bit longer' than its predecessor, which clocked three hours and 12 minutes. Both the forthcoming threequel and The Way of Water were originally conceived as one film, but the director split them into separate movies once the story started to flesh out. 'We had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie two,' said Cameron. 'The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren't drilling down enough on character. So I said, 'Guys, we've got to split it.'' Doing so allowed for a deeper exploration of the Sully family dynamics, with Lo'ak taking a more central role in the Fire and Ash . The villains, too, will get their time to shine, bringing a nuanced touch to the simplistic dichotomy of 'good versus evil' rhetoric, as Cameron explained: One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic. We're trying to evolve beyond the 'all humans are bad, all Na'vi are good' paradigm. [Oona Chaplin] is so good that I didn't quite appreciate how good her performance is until we got the Wētā animation back. She's an enemy, an adversarial character but [Chaplin] makes her feel so real and alive. Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third instalment out of a planned five films, set to bow on 19 December 2025. Much of the footage has already been shot, with the fourth and fifth movies slated for 21 December 2029 and 19 December 2031, respectively. Warner Bros. Touts "Bold 10-Year Plan" As 'Superman' Soars To US$217 Million Global Haul
The Man of Steel has triumphed over naysayers, starting the rebooted DC Universe (DCU), formerly known as DC Extended Universe (DCEU), off on a strong foot. James Gunn's Superman , one of the most anticipated superhero movies of the year, opened to an encouraging US$217 million at the global box office, with US$122 million coming from theatres in the U.S. The more lukewarm response on the international front isn't surprising, given the heavier focus on American ideals and the character's portrayal as a patriot rooted in its history. Still, the feat is nothing short of impressive — the tentpole entry is the first comic book film in an entire year to surpass US$100 million, after Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine debuted with a whopping US$211 million domestically, and US$438 million globally, last year. Superman joins A Minecraft Movie and Disney's live-action Lilo & Stitch as the third movie of 2025 to gross over US$100 million in the U.S. in its opening weekend, versus US$162.8 million and US$146 million, respectively. Among the DC titles, it's also one of the only three with a debut of over US$100 million in more than five years, coming in between 2017's Wonder Woman (US$103.3 million) and Matt Reeves' The Batman (US$134 million), not adjusted for inflation. It should be noted, however, that the latter served as a standalone entry and isn't considered part of the DCEU; in the same vein, the forthcoming sequel will be separate from the DCU as well. In terms of solo outings, the David Corenswet-led pic is now the largest domestic launch for the character on the big screen, defeating Zack Snyder's Man of Steel (US$116.7 million). The question now is whether it can maintain the current box office momentum, as both the 2013 adaptation, alongside Marvel's recent comic book instalment Thunderbolts* , failed to generate enough hype to become an enduring blockbuster past their opening weeks. Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav is keeping his hopes up for Superman , expressing excitement for the future of the DCU. The movie, starring Rachel Brosnahan ( The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel , House of Cards ) as Lois Lane opposite Corenswet, comes with high stakes as the launchpad to Chapter One of the rebooted cinematic universe. 'This weekend, we watched Superman soar as James Gunn's passion and vision came to life on the big screen. Superman is just the first step,' Zaslav said. 'Over the next year alone, DC Studios will introduce the films Supergirl and Clayface in theatres and the series Lanterns on HBO Max, all part of a bold 10-year plan. The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead.' But DC Studios isn't the only one celebrating a major milestone. Universal Pictures has unearthed a box office success with Jurassic World Rebirth , now stomping past the US$500 million mark globally. This comes after earning US$318 million internationally in its opening outing, pushing Scarlett Johansson to the top of the list of highest-grossing lead actors before inflation adjustment. Joseph Kosinski's F1: The Movie trails behind the standalone sequel to 2022's Jurassic World Dominion , totalling US$375 million worldwide in its third weekend. In another victory for Universal, DreamWorks Animation's live-action How to Train Your Dragon continues to soar high, bumping its global box office haul to US$560.8 million. Rounding out the top five list is the ill-fated Elio, which, unfortunately, is on track to be one of the lowest-grossing titles from Pixar.
