Commanders will wear new uniform vs. Broncos on 'Sunday Night Football'

USA Today10-07-2025
The Washington Commanders unveiled "new" uniforms on Wednesday, but they will probably look familiar to fans across the NFL.
That's because the new alternate look is a nod to their Super Bowl era when they won three titles from 1982-1991. The new alternate looks very similar to the uniform they wore during the most successful period in franchise history. Bryan Manning of Commanders Wire experts the alternate look to become the Commanders' primary uniform as early as 2026.
So, why write about it on a Denver Broncos blog? It's relevant!
The Commanders will wear the throwbacks three times this season, including a Sunday Night Football showdown with the Broncos in Week 13. Denver and Washington will both be coming off bye weeks ahead of that nationally-televised game on NBC.
Some Broncos fans have suggested Denver could wear its 1977-inspired throwback uniform to recreate the uniform matchup from Super Bowl XXII, but it's hard to imagine the club wanting to reimagine a 42-10 defeat in 1988.
Instead, the Broncos seem more likely to wear their throwback uniforms at home against their division rivals this fall (but that's just a guess -- Denver hasn't announced its 2025 uniform schedule yet).
Broncos fans will get a look at the Commanders' new threads when Jayden Daniels and Co. host Bo Nix's squad in primetime this fall. The SNF showdown is set for Sunday, Nov. 30 at 6:20 p.m. MT (view the full schedule).

NFL analyst predicts 49ers to go over their projected win total in 2025

The San Francisco 49ers had one of their most disappointing seasons in some time in 2024, finishing with a 6-11 record and in fourth place in the NFC West after three straight trips to the NFC championship and one to the Super Bowl. This season, the 49ers are hoping that some of the moves they made, including bringing back defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, drafting Mykel Williams in the first round, trading for Bryce Huff and replacing Deebo Samuel with Demarcus Robinson, will help them get back to their winning ways in 2025. With rookies reporting to training camp at their SAP Performance Facility in Santa Clara, California, earlier this week and veterans joining on Tuesday, BetMGM currently has set San Francisco's win total at 10.5 this year. While that'd be considered a lofty number for most, The Athletic's Vic Tafur recently projected that the 49ers will go over that total and win at least 11 games in 2025. "There have been some glowing reports about Christian McCaffrey's health, and yes, after what happened last season, 49ers fans and fantasy GMs have plenty of reason to be skeptical," Tafur said. "McCaffrey is just one of the reasons the 49ers should bounce back from a 6-11 record. They brought back defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, used their first five draft picks on the defense and traded for pass rusher Bryce Huff to line up opposite Nick Bosa. Brock Purdy got a big new contract, and there's no reason to think he can't take another step in his development. The 49ers lost receiver Deebo Samuel but Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall will hold it down — maybe? — until Brandon Aiyuk is back. (We gave you Josh Allen as the MVP at 8-to-1 last year and if he doesn't repeat — at 6-to-1 — Purdy might just shock the world at 28-to-1.)" The 49ers have their work cut out for them, as it's hard to argue that their roster is much better than it was last year. However, health could be the game-changer for the franchise in 2025 after key players like McCaffrey, Aiyuk and Trent Williams missed significant time last year that certainly cost them games. If that trio can stay on the field and play to best of their abilities, San Francisco should see an improved record this season. Whether it's enough to bring them back to at least 11 wins for the third time in four years remains to be seen. NBA executive believes one team is a threat to steal Luka Doncic from the Lakers

On Aug. 2, Luka Doncic will be eligible to sign a long-term contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers. It may take him some time to actually sign one, as he is spending much of the summer representing his native Slovenia in the upcoming FIBA Eurobasket competition. There has been a bit of anxiety regarding whether Doncic will actually stay with the Lakers. He can opt out of his current contract next summer, and while they have a very good roster, they don't have a championship-caliber one and are coming off a five-game loss in the first round of the NBA playoffs. There have been reports that L.A. will be in a holding pattern for a year or two until it can go after Giannis Antetokounmpo or Nikola Jokić as soon as next summer. One NBA executive said that such a plan could very well drive Doncic to join Jokic's Denver Nuggets. Via ClutchPoints: 'The Lakers have to be careful,' a West executive told ClutchPoints. 'Luka just got his butt kicked by a team he handled easily last year, and now they're telling him to wait another year before he can really compete. 'If Denver wins it all or comes close while Rob [Pelinka] makes it clear he doesn't believe in Luka and LeBron as a combo, they could be a real threat for him this next season or two.' The Nuggets won the NBA championship just two calendar years ago, and although they have lost in the second round of the playoffs during the last two seasons, they still have a very strong roster. They're considered one of the big winners of this offseason after trading forward Michael Porter Jr. for forward Cam Johnson and adding guards Bruce Brown Jr. and Tim Hardaway Jr., as well as center Jonas Valanciunas, in free agency. Of course, Jokic remains, in the minds of most, the best basketball player on the planet, and he just became the third player in NBA history to average a triple-double this past season. Los Angeles hasn't improved as much as Denver has, but it did address its big hole at the center position by snagging center Deandre Ayton, who could thrive next to Doncic since he's a big-time lob threat. There is always the chance that it makes another move this summer, especially given the fact that it reportedly wants to improve its point-of-attack defense.

The former NFL linebacker had undergone multiple surgeries while receiving treatment in Seattle, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help his family cover expenses. The former NFL player's agent, Sean Stellato, confirmed his passing on Thursday. "Bryan, people saw this enormous human being, but his heart was big as his body," Stellato told KPRC 2 in Houston. "His spirit was so motivating. He was so real and genuine with everybody. That made him special. "It's hard. I feel like I lost my firstborn. This kid, he gave me his bed every time I came to Philadelphia. He would threaten me if I didn't stay with him. That's something I'll always cherish. My heart hurts today." Braman played in the NFL rom 2011-17. "You look at his journey and beating the odds to make it to the NFL after going undrafted," Stellato said. "Not only making it, but producing and becoming a world champion, he had a real hard journey. In life, we all run this race. To die at age 38, the game of football and his family are hurting today. He was a staple for what football and underdogs are about." The Eagles released a statement on the former Super Bowl champion's death on Thursday. Our thoughts continue to be with the friends and family members of everyone involved. May the former NFL linebacker rest in peace.
