The Spaniard has reportedly signed a two-year contract with Al-Ahly,
'I'm in a European club. You don't lack anything. This is what I dreamt of and hoped for, to coach a team the size of Al Ahly,' Riveiro is quoted as saying by the Egyptian media after his unveiling.
Riveiro replaces Marcel Koller, who was sacked following the narrow defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals of the CAF Champions League.
Emad El-Nahhas took over as interim head coach and guided the club to their third successive Premier League title. El-Nahhas will remain in the setup as assistant coach to Riveiro.
Dream start for the Spaniard
His first task is to try and win the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. Ahly are in Group A with Portuguese giants FC Porto, Palmeiras of Brazil and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
Riveiro joins the Red Devils off the back of a remarkably successful stint at Pirates. His three years stay at the Buccaneers saw him winning five trophies – three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups.
He also led Pirates to the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Pyramids.
The Spaniard officially left Pirates after a 3-0 win over Golden Arrows two weeks before the end of the season.
Riveiro pays tribute to Pirates
Riveiro paid tribute to Pirates management for allowing him to leave before the end of my contract.
'I want to express my sincere appreciation to Orlando Pirates for allowing me the opportunity to leave before the end of my contract. As someone who has never found goodbyes easy, this moment is particularly emotional for me.
'I am deeply grateful to everyone at the Club – from management and technical staff to the players and the many individuals behind the scenes who work tirelessly to support the team.

'To the players, thank you for believing in the journey we shared and for giving everything on the pitch. And to the supporters. When I first arrived, I challenged you to come out in your numbers and rally behind your team. You did that, and more. You turned every match into a moment to remember, and your passion is something I will carry with me forever.'

No Mbappé, no problem as Enrique completes PSG transformation with a bang
When Luis Enrique claimed in early 2024 that Paris St Germain would be better without Kylian Mbappé, many dismissed it as arrogance or deflection. Fifteen months later, after PSG's first Champions League triumph — a jaw-dropping 5-0 steamrollering of Inter Milan in Saturday's final in Munich — the Spanish coach's bold prediction looks less like provocation and more like prophecy. The victory marked the culmination of a profound transformation, from a club defined by star power to one shaped by structure, tactical clarity and collective belief. Luis Enrique's second season at the helm has delivered what eluded his predecessors — not just a European title, but a new identity for PSG with the youngest squad in the last 16 of the competition, featuring French teenager Desire Doue, who made a decisive impact in Saturday's final.

Pyramids and Sundowns collide in do-or-die Champs League final
The sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Pretoria. Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns will meet in what is expected to be a thrilling second leg of the CAF Champions League final in Cairo tonight. Both teams have all to play for after they played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Pretoria. Lucas Ribeiro's opener for Sundowns was canceled out by a late Walid El Karti header for Pyramids. ALSO READ: Egypt's Pyramids seek support as they aim to take down Sundowns A goalless draw or any win at home would be enough to hand Pyramids their first-ever CAF Champions League title. However, a high scoring draw will see Sundowns being crowned the champions of Africa for the second time following their triumph under Pitso Mosimane in 2016. Speaking ahead of tonight's clash at the Air Defense Stadium, Pyramids coach Jurcic urged Egyptian football as a whole to rally behind his team, saying they are not representing themselves but the country of Egypt. 'We will play our usual way, and we call on the Egyptian fans to support us for the sake of football in the country, not just for Pyramids,' Jurcic told the media. Commenting on the game, Jurcic said as much as they respect Sundowns, they will do everything in their power to win the final. 'It's a decisive and difficult match. 'We'll play our usual way, but we are ready for all scenarios. This is the CAF Champions League final — anything can happen. 'We've built character over this campaign. We respect Sundowns, but we are here to win.' Pyramids carry an away goal advantage going into this match, and they are expected to apply the low block and try to catch Sundowns on the counter attack. Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso, however, is not only worried about this, but also Pyramids' organised attack. 'It's not only worrying about the counter-attacks from Pyramids, it's also worrying about their organized attack, about their set-pieces, because they can score like us at any moment,' he explained. Maybe before it wouldn't be expected, but at that moment, no one expected it,' said Cardoso.

Saleng: Kaizer Chiefs win transfer after Orlando Pirates blunder?
Monnapule Saleng is set for a dramatic career revival after a turbulent season with Orlando Pirates, a saga sparked by a costly contract oversight that may have handed Kaizer Chiefs a massive transfer coup. As the 2024/2025 season wrapped up, Saleng finally looked ahead with a sense of reprieve, ready to reboot his career after spending months frozen out of the Buccaneers' plans. His fourth campaign since joining Pirates turned sour due to confusion over his contract's validity. At the heart of the issue lies uncertainty. Did his deal expire at the end of June, or was there an option for renewal? That question, left unanswered by Pirates' management, opened the door to one of the biggest off-field dramas in recent PSL memory. Reports now claim that Saleng signed a pre-contract with Kaizer Chiefs, sparking even more intrigue. Insiders say the winger's handlers quietly stepped back from the situation, leaving supporters wondering what went wrong behind the scenes. 'You get the idea that something happened when those representing him stepped away,' a source told The South African . 'Saleng's contract option with Orlando Pirates lapsed unnoticed, only realised afterwards.' With no formal extension signed, Pirates discovered the oversight too late, after Saleng had already reportedly committed to their Soweto rivals. Saleng's fall from grace feels even more striking when you consider his past contributions. In the 2022/2023 season, Jose Riveiro's first as head coach, Saleng exploded with 26 goal contributions, scoring the MTN8 final winner and assisting in the Nedbank Cup final. The following season, he added 10 more goal involvements and attracted interest from UAE side Al Nasr. He started the 2024/2025 campaign strongly, notching five goals and one assist in just 13 appearances. But everything changed after 7 December 2024, when he played his final competitive match against Al Ahly. Since that night, Saleng hasn't featured again, missing 33 consecutive matches in all competitions. Sources reveal that once Pirates learned of his pre-contract with Chiefs, they froze him out of the squad. The club also pulled him from the CHAN squad, reportedly due to mounting pressure from fans who began questioning his absence. His only outing since was in the CHAN qualifiers against Egypt on 2 March, a 1–1 home draw that now stands as his last competitive appearance of the season. While neither club has officially confirmed the move, signs point strongly to Kaizer Chiefs pulling off a quiet coup, capitalising on Pirates' contract mismanagement.
