He scored 12 goals and has been ever-present this year with 34 league appearances.
It did not take long for the Scotland star to win himself over amongst the Napoli faithful.
McTominay hit the ground running in Italy and fans of all clubs, particularly Manchester United, began to take notice.

As early as September he earned comparisons to Napoli legend Diego Maradona, with one commentator suggesting McTominay had made his opponents "look like children" in a match against Juventus.
By Christmas he was a favourite amongst the players in the dressing room and began to be hailed in the Italian press as a "Napoli leader".
The Red Devils academy graduate now has a shrine in Naples, while a pizzeria named a pizza after their hero, who they have nicknamed McFratm.
Some fans earlier in the season unveiled a Napoli-Scotland flag that read: "Napoli. McTominay. Pizza. In that order."

McTominay capped off a brilliant debut year in Italy by getting his hands on the Serie A trophy, while former side United look set to finish in the bottom five.
The 28-year-old will also be a Champions League player once again - which would not have happened if he had remained at Old Trafford.
And while United are licking their wounds after recording their lowest ever Prem points total as well as losing the Europa League final, McTominay is celebrating a bonus.
The Napoli squad are set to receive a cash prize of more than £10million for winning the league, owner Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed.

BBC Radio Scotland's Bryan Burnett to return to airwaves after cancer treatment

BBC Radio Scotland presenter Bryan Burnett will return to the airwaves on Thursday after undergoing cancer treatment. The broadcaster announced in June he would step back from his programme Get It On to receive care for appendix cancer. Fellow presenter Grant Stott, who stepped in during his absence, announced his return to listeners on Tuesday night. He said: 'In what must have been a terrible time for Bryan and his family and close friends, I'm just delighted I was able to help by looking after something that is very precious to Bryan; Get It On and his listeners. 'Getting to do the show over this time has shown me just how close the audience is to Bryan and vice versa. 'I know they will be delighted to get their radio teatime pal back.' Burnett said his treatment had been successful and thanked those who had wished him well throughout his recovery. Commenting on his return, he said: 'I am delighted to be returning to work following successful treatment for appendix cancer. 'Over the past few months I have been focused on my recovery and have been supported by an incredible medical team, my family and friends, and the overwhelming kindness of so many BBC Radio Scotland listeners who have reached out with encouragement and well-wishes. 'Their messages, cards and kindness have meant so much. 'My team at the BBC have also been a huge support and I want to thank Grant Stott, who has been sitting in for me and done such a great job looking after the show. 'My return to work will be gradual to ensure I maintain my health and energy. Cancer has given me a renewed perspective on what matters most and I am excited about the road ahead and grateful for the opportunity to return to doing what I'm passionate about.' Hayley Valentine, director BBC Scotland, said: 'Like the Get it On listeners, everyone at BBC Scotland is delighted to be welcoming Bryan back to the studio following what has been a tough couple of months for him. We look forward to seeing and hearing him back where he belongs.' Stott will share Get it On presenting duties with Bryan during his phased return. Burnett's first Get it On show will be Thursday 14 August 14 6pm to 8pm.

Cristiano Ronaldo slammed over controversial wedding remark 5 months before engagement

Football star Cristiano Ronaldo made an eyebrow raising comment about marriage just five months before he revealed he's engaged to fiancee Georgina Rodriguez Cristiano Ronaldo made an unusual comment about marriage just months before he popped the question to his fiancée Georgina Rodriguez with a very special ring. The footballing icon, 40, made the all important decision after almost a decade and two children later. ‌ They had been hit with questions as to when or if their big day would ever arrive. Cristiano revealed he hadn't asked for Georgina's hand in marriage because the timing wasn't 'quite right'. ‌ However, their time has now arrived as Georgina, 31, flashed her huge diamond ring worth millions to her social media followers. It comes after Mel B's 'spiritual' Moroccan wedding with non traditional dress. ‌ Amid the flurry of congratulations to the happy couple, a resurfaced clip of Cristiano has made an awkward comeback. The former Manchester United star made a rather unusual remark about marriage just months before. During an episode of Netflix's I am Georgina, the couple spilled on why they were yet to tie the knot. Georgina admitted even her friends and family had expressed concern as to why they hadn't married. ‌ She said: "They're always joking about the wedding, when is the wedding? Since Jennifer Lopez's song, 'The Ring or When' came out, they started singing it to me. And well, this is not up to me." Cristiano then revealed what was holding him back. Speaking in March this year, he confessed: "I always tell her, when we get that 'click'. Like, everything with our life, and she knows what I'm talking about. "It could be in a year or it could be in six months or it could be in a month. I'm 1,000 percent sure that it will happen." Some fans were confused by the comment as they couldn't understand why he made Georgina wait. ‌ One said: "8 years to find the click," alongside a crying emoji. Another added: "Ronaldo finally got that 'click' about Georgina after 9 years and 2 children." Someone else wrote: "Just because it 'clicked' for Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez doesn't mean your man will propose after years together. Sometimes it never clicks." While others came to Cristiano's defence as one shared: "Tears, Ronaldo finally found the click." Another added: "It looks like Cristiano Ronaldo finally got 'El click' and proposed to Georgina Rodriguez. What a ring!" ‌ Georgina flashed a massive diamond that took up almost half of her ring finger when she shared their happy news. It featured one stunning stone that glistened on the white bedsheets while Cristiano place his hand underneath. According to gemologist Olivia Landau, the ring has set Cristiano back several million. She said: 'Features an oval diamond estimated to be over 10 carats, possibly as large as 15 carats. It appears to be flanked by two smaller oval diamond side stones, each approximately 2–3 carats. "The setting is platinum with double claw prongs on all four corners. Depending on the quality, the ring and center diamond are likely worth several million dollars.' The couple met at a Gucci store in 2016, with the ex-Manchester United superstar admitting that it was a case of love at first sight. When celebrating Georgina's birthday earlier this year, Cristiano appeared to hint he had taken that next step. He posted on social media: "For the mother, partner, friend, my wife... happy birthday, love. Your light illuminates us and your love infects us."

Gary Neville tells Man Utd to make one more transfer if they want 'healthy' league place

Gary Neville believes the capture of a new goalkeeper can help make Manchester United a top six side - especially if their new look attack is able to produce in the final third Gary Neville has claimed Manchester United can finish in the top six if their three new strikers notch 40 goals - and they get another goalkeeper to keep them out at the other end. ‌ Ruben Amorin's side finished 15th last season after scoring only 44 goals in Premier League games. But the £73.7m signing of Slovene Benjamin Seska has taken their summer spending on strikers to over £200m following the arrival of Bryan Mbeumbo and Matheus Cunha. ‌ And former Reds defender Neville believes there will have to be an improvement on the last torrid campaign. 'I think they'll be looking at Champions League, I think that'll be the ambition,' he said. 'I think we've gone past the point now where we say Manchester United have to win the league, I think that's unrealistic. ‌ 'I think top six would be healthy, I think that my feeling is probably between seventh, eighth is where I'm looking at it now, but I think they could, without Europe, they could get into the top six if they have a good run, and those players settling up front, which I'm actually quite happy about the players they've signed up front. 'I didn't think they had the £200 million to spend. If you said to me after that Tottenham game in the Europa League that Manchester United would have a forward line of those three that they've signed, I'd have snapped your hand off. I like the profile of those players, whether they settle in now is obviously the big question. Two of them are proven Premier League players, obviously they've got to step up a level, Sesco's young, he's got potential. He's young, can he get off to a good start? That's important for him. 'Can they embed themselves at United? Can they get the probably 35-40 goals which would be par for those three players? If they can get 40 goals, United's goals last season was terrible, they've got a good chance of getting into that top six, but they've got to settle those three players, and we can't take that for granted anymore at United. If they get a goalkeeper, I think that they could get into the top six, but a lot of things have to go on.' Manchester United conceded 54 Premier League goals to finish the season with a goal difference of -10. Paris-Saint Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is available for £30m - and big wages - as an upgrade from Andre Onana. ‌ Amorin will also have more time to work with his players without European football. Antonio Conte took Chelsea from 10th to champions in his first season in 2016-17. 'I think it'll help, it has to help, because there's basically more training time, less pressure on the players, less injuries, it means that the best players can play more often in the league, and not have those demands of a Thursday night game,' Neville said. 'But I think we've got to start the season well, there were some tough fixtures early on.' ‌ Neville claimed Sunday's clash with Arsenal was a good opening game for his club. 'I just think they need something big,' he said. And fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher reckons Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are in even bigger need of a strong start to the season. 'It's a big game, we're out for Arsenal,' he said. 'I think there's going to be that much pressure on Arsenal, just because we're in year five now, I think it's year six, and it just feels like right from the start everyone's eyes are on them. so I don't think it's a great game actually for Arsenal, to kick off the season as well, because of the situation that they're in, where it just feels like all eyes are on them from the very start. 'I'm not saying it's Premier League or bust, that type of thing, because I actually think Mikel Artel has done a brilliant job, and to be second, year after year, people sort of sneer at him, Arsenal finish second again, but there's a lot of good clubs in this, so to second every year is not a mean feat. ‌ 'I think it would be good for them to get some sort of trophy. I think they had a good result in their last pre-season match but I think the one before that, they lost at home, and there was a few murmurs in the crowd. It's not just people outside, people in the stadium are worried. It's like: 'This has to happen now'.'
