New Delhi: Months after the release of her film Abir Gulaal was stalled in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack (April 22, 2025), actress Vaani Kapoor has reacted to the Diljit Dosanjh- Sardaar ji 3 controversy which dominated the headlines once it was revealed that Pakistani star Hania Aamir featured in a key role in the Punjabi movie. Addressing the gravity of the situation, Vaani tells NDTV in an exclusive interview, "I don't want it to be a clickbait conversation". Despite facing several threats from different film bodies in India, Diljit Dosanjh released Sardaar Ji 3 overseas on June 27. As one of the producers of the film, Diljit could take a call on his film, whereas Vaani's Abir Gulaal was caught in the crosshairs. When we ask Vaani to share her thoughts about Diljit's decision to release Sardaar Ji 3 globally, she says, "I am assuming his film was shot before the atrocious attack and I am assuming as a producer his money must have been stuck. "I guess, some 100 technicians were involved in making the film. The situation was different when the film was shot. I don't think he was meaning to disrespect the nation. He is a global star... He is looked up to globally. He has taken measures as per whatever he thought was suitable to him. But I don't think any laws have been broken, right?" The Fate Of Sardaar Ji 3 And Abir Gulaal Vaani Kapoor was paired opposite popular Pakistani star Fawad Khan in the film Abir Gulaal. Slated for a May 9 release in India, the release of the movie was delayed indefinitely after the Pahalgam attack. After the attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), an organisation of movie artists, called for a boycott on Abir Gulaal. FWICE is the same organisation that banned Pakistani artists, singers and technicians from working in the Indian film industry after the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, which claimed the lives of 35 Indian paramilitary personnel. When the India-Pakistan diplomatic ties once again took a hit after the Pahalgam terror attack in April, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also stalled the release of Abir Gulaal in India. Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3 cast featured Pakistani actress Hania Aamir starring opposite the actor-singer. The teaser of the Punjabi film didn't feature her, but the trailer's release on June 22 revealed Hania Aamir's involvement with Sardaar Ji 3. Following the revelation, Diljit Dosanjh faced threats from FWICE, including stalling the release of the film. However, he stuck to his decision and the film released in theatres (excluding India) on June 27. Sardaar Ji 3 emerged as one of the highest-grossing Punjabi films overseas. It minted approx Rs 150 crore at the box office.

Kurt van der Basch with the Director of Italian Embassy Cultural Centre Andrea Anastasio The Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Director of the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, recently invited art lovers to a unique exhibition titled "Away to Stay" - a showcase of evocative watercolour paintings by Czech-Canadian artist Kurt van der Basch. The exhibition was held earlier this week at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. Away to Stay Known internationally for his work as a Hollywood storyboard artist, he has spent over two decades sketching cinematic visions for the silver screen. But during a transformative three-and-a-half-year stay in India, he turned his attention away from film sets and toward the world outside his window - bustling streets, quiet corners, everyday people and fleeting moments - all captured through the delicate immediacy of watercolour painting. Attendees said that they found Away to Stay is a deeply personal body of work. The paintings offer not only a glimpse into van der Basch's evolving artistic practice, but also a rare outsider's view into the rhythms and textures of life across the India - rendered with warmth, sensitivity, and an eye for detail honed by years in visual storytelling. The exhibition was a celebration of cross-cultural experience, quiet observation, and the timeless appeal of watercolour as a medium. 'You Are Too...': Why Sanjay Dutt Told Divya Bharti's Cousin To Leave The Film Industry
Last Updated: Best known for her bold appearance in 'Grand Masti', Kainaat Arora entered the film world with high hopes and a famous connection; she's the cousin of the late Divya Bharti News18 The glitz and glamour of Bollywood often conceal the difficult roads many actors travel before, during, and after their time in the spotlight. For actress Kainaat Arora, that path has been marked by comparisons, missed opportunities, and moments of brutal honesty, even from some of the industry's biggest stars. Best known for her bold appearance in Grand Masti, Kainaat entered the film world with high hopes and a famous connection; she's the cousin of the late Divya Bharti, the tragic superstar whose meteoric rise and sudden death in the early 1990s still cast a long shadow over Hindi cinema. But for Kainaat, that relationship turned into a complicated legacy. 'If Divya wasn't my cousin, maybe I would have had a better career," she told IANS in a recent interview, adding, 'Still, I am her biggest fan." She debuted with Akshay Kumar in Khatta Meetha and later worked in multiple Punjabi and South Indian films, yet success remained elusive. Despite sharing screens with major stars and playing glamorous roles, her career never quite gained the traction she'd hoped for. Her struggle, she says, was visible to everyone including her co-stars Ajith Kumar and Sanjay Dutt who advised her to leave the film industry. Recalling her time working with Ajith Kumar in Mankatha, she said that Ajith had once bluntly told her to leave the industry. 'Ajith told me, 'Kainaat, you are too simple. You need to be fully prepared because the journey is not easy'," she told IANS. Sanjay Dutt, according to her, had given her similar advice during the early phase of her career. Even her own parents were never fully on board with her decision to pursue films. 'I didn't plan to come into this field," she admitted, adding that things just happened, and she went along with the flow. Still, not everyone in the industry tried to talk her out of it. Talking about Akshay Kumar, who she credits for pushing her to do better, Kainaat said that he was 'motivating, funny, and extremely supportive on set". The actress also addmitted to learning a lot from her other co-stars like Vivek Oberoi, Ritesh Deshmukh, Mohanlal, and Gippy Grewal. 'Even though I'm Punjabi, Gippy helped me with diction when we were shooting in the US. I've learned so much silently just by observing these amazing actors. Ritesh, for example, is incredibly spontaneous; his one-liners were often improvised, and I was just absorbing everything like a student," she said. That journey, from a small town in Uttar Pradesh to the towering sets of Mumbai and beyond, hasn't been smooth, but it has been hers. Starting with modeling in Delhi, Kainaat slowly found her way into cinema, acting in films across languages and regions. 'It's not easy to move from a small town to a big city and find your place. I came to Delhi to study and pursued a merchandising course from NIFT. One day, while crossing the road, I got a modelling offer. I never thought I'd be doing modeling while still studying. I lived in a PG hostel, and money was tight. My father was facing business issues, and we had loans," she said. Her story is far from over. But whether it's being compared to Divya Bharti or being told to pack her bags, Kainaat Arora's journey reminds us how unpredictable and demanding the film world truly is, and how some actors continue walking the road, even when everyone says they shouldn't.
