Britney Spears blames vodka after lighting cigarette on flight
Multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE and TMZ that authorities were called after the 43-year-old pop star started smoking mid-flight last week.
According to TMZ, Spears complied when flight attendants ordered her to put out her smoke, but the outlet reported that she was 'difficult.' When the plane landed, sources told TMZ the mother-of-two was met by authorities and warned about her behaviour, which is a violation of federal aviation regulations.
'This is not her first warning,' a source told PEOPLE exclusively. 'She doesn't exactly follow the rules.'
Spears has since addressed the incident in a recent Instagram post calling the ordeal 'incredibly funny.'
The Toxic singer blamed her puffs on the fact that she was drinking vodka.
'Confession it was my first time drinking VODKA!!! I swear I felt so SMART,' she told her more than 41.8 million followers. 'I was like wow what the heck is in there !!! I felt so clear and smart !!!'
'My friend put (a cigarette) in my mouth and lit it up for me so I was like OH SO THIS IS A PLANE WHERE YOU CAN SMOKE !!!' the Hold It Against Me hitmaker continued.
Spears offered her apologies 'to anyone I offended,' but tried to downplay her actions by saying that 'the flight attendants always make sure I'm way at the back of the plane anyways.'
She continued to write that when she met with authorities after the plane touched down, she thought they were there to greet her 'as support.'
' I was like WOW I feel special !!! I've never been to an international airport,' she wrote, adding a string of laugh-cry emojis. 'Am I famous or something???'
Spears acknowledged that the flight attendant called officials because she smoked a cigarette, but said that the employee 'didn't like me the moment I got on the plane!!!'
'The flight attendant called officials because I smoked a cigarette !!! And embarrass me which jeez I thought was kinda much,' she wrote. 'Nobody was on the plane for first 20 minutes and she wouldn't let me get out of my seat I wanted to stand up !!! She acted so weird about making sure I sat down and it was weird !!! I didn't like the way she put the seatbelt on me and invaded my space!!!'
Spears lived under a conservatorship overseen by her father for 13 years, which a judge ended in 2021. Since then, she has returned to the public eye, but her erratic behaviour has alarmed some of her closest friends.
'The judge went so Hollywood, ignoring all of the medical reports in front of her and just bent to the Free Britney people outside the courthouse,' one source told TMZ.
After releasing her bestselling memoir The Woman in Me, Universal Pictures and producer Marc Platt announced they plan to turn Spears' life story into a musical biopic with Wicked director Jon M. Chu set to helm the project.
Spears shared the news on X, where she tweeted that she was 'excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies … stay tuned.'

Tom Hanks, who portrayed Jim Lovell in ‘Apollo 13,' pays tribute to the late astronaut
Tom Hanks is honoring the real-life hero that he once portrayed in a popular, Oscar-winning film. After the death of astronaut Jim Lovell was announced on Friday, Hanks shared a poignant social media post to his Instagram, writing, 'There are people who dare, who dream, and who lead others to places we would not go on our own.' 'Jim Lovell, who for a long while had gone farther into space and for longer than any other person of our planet, was that kind of guy,' Hanks added in the post. The actor portrayed Lovell in the 1995 Ron Howard-directed film 'Apollo 13,' which told the story of Lovell's failed lunar space mission which almost cost him and his crew their lives in 1970. Apollo 13 would have marked NASA's third successful crewed moon landing, but during the ill-fated mission – which carried Lovell as well as astronauts John Swigert Jr. and Fred Haise Jr. on board – an oxygen tank located on the crew's service module exploded when they were about 200,000 miles (322,000 kilometers) away from Earth. Lovell famously delivered the news to mission control, saying 'Houston, we've had a problem.' The exchange was later immortalized by Hanks in the 'Apollo 13' movie, which costarred Gary Sinise, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris, Kathleen Quinlan and the late Bill Paxton. With the damage effectively taking out their power source and other life support supplies, the Apollo 13 crew had to abruptly abandon their trek to the lunar surface and use several engine burns to swing around the far side of the moon and put themselves on a course back toward Earth. The three-person crew made a high-stakes splashdown return in the South Pacific Ocean about three days after the tank explosion, marking the conclusion of what has come to be known as the 'successful failure' of the Apollo missions. 'His many voyages around Earth and on to so-very-close to the moon were not made for riches or celebrity, but because such challenges as those are what fuels the course of being alive – and who better than Jim Lovell to make those voyages,' Hanks wrote in his tribute on Friday. Lovell died at age 97 on Thursday in Lake Forest, Illinois, according to a NASA news release, CNN previously reported. The cause of death was not immediately clear. He made a brief cameo in the movie as the captain of the USS Iwo Jima, the Navy ship that recovered the Apollo 13 crew after splashdown. 'Apollo 13' was nominated for nine Oscars, including best picture, and won two, for best film editing and best sound.

11 Aug - Bella Astillah broke her silence surrounding the controversy that sparked between her and Sophia Albarakbah, stating that she just wants to move forward. Sharing her thoughts on 9 August on Instagram, the singer, who posted a photo of her and Muar MP Syed Saddiq following their Hottest Couple Goal win at the Anugerah Melodi Terhangat, said that she is thankful to the organiser for the recognition and will think of it as an extraordinary experience. "After a week of reflection and listening to all sides, I choose to focus on the good things that came from that night and to continue moving forward. Anyway, it was your love and support that I consider the biggest gift of all," she added. Netizens have blasted TV3 and the team of Melodi, after the awards show intentionally arranged for Bella and Syed Saddiq to present the Hottest Female Celebrity award to Sophia, accusing them of using the history between the two women artistes for ratings. Fans of both stars called it a "cheap publicity" for the fact that Sophia was once romantically linked to Bella's ex-husband Aliff Aziz. (Photo Source: Bella IG, Sophia IG)

Who Plays Aunt Gladys in ‘Weapons'? Where You've Seen Amy Madigan Before
In addition to the hit horror film, the actress has had roles in several popular TV series 'Weapons' is getting plenty of attention after hitting theaters Friday, and the movie is on track to earn $40 million this weekend. Part of the film's success can be chalked up to the secrecy that surrounded its plot ahead of time — and perhaps no one character is more mysterious than Amy Madigan's Aunt Gladys. Madigan's role in the movie has been kept a secret on purpose, and the bulk of this article contains spoilers about the film's plot. In other words: stop reading now if you don't want to know anything about what Madigan gets up to as Aunt Gladys. More from TheWrap The 7 Best Crime Movies on Netflix Right Now Marvel Spins Up 'Spider-Man 4' Sneak Peek From Tom Holland's First Day on Set | Video 'Weapons' Ending Explained: What Happened to the Kids? Is the MCU Really Adapting Doctor Doom? 'Fantastic Four' Leaves Room for Doubt Is Amy Madigan in 'Weapons'? Though there wasn't a lot of information available about Madigan's role in 'Weapons' before the movie's release (she even attended the premiere but skipped the red carpet) she definitely plays a key part in the film's story. Again: anything you read past this point will spoil key parts of the movie for you, so proceed with caution. Who does Amy Madigan play in 'Weapons'? At the beginning of the film, the audience finds out 17 of 18 children in Ms. Gandy's (Garner) Maybrook Elementary School class woke up in the middle of the night and left their homes — and they haven't come back. Alex Lilly (Cary Christopher) is the only child who remains behind, and Madigan stars as his great-aunt. Her character, Aunt Gladys, came to town ostensibly to take care of Alex and his family after his mother gets sick. But pretty soon, it becomes clear she's completely in charge — and that she has the ability to control everyone around her as long as she has access to a personal item of theirs. Aunt Gladys begins by siphoning energy from Alex's parents, but once that runs out, his classmates become a viable option. She enlists her great-nephew's help and then uses magic to bring the children to their home. What else has Amy Madigan been in? If Madigan seems familiar, that's probably because her resume is vast and varied — but she's never quite had a breakaway hit. She played Annie Kinsella in 'Field of Dreams,' played Iris Crowe in 24 episodes of 'Carnivale,' and appeared as Dr. Katharine Wyatt in nine episodes of 'Grey's Anatomy. Her additional credits also include episodes of 'ER' and 'How to Get Away with Murder.' 'Weapons' is now playing in theaters. The post Who Plays Aunt Gladys in 'Weapons'?
