BBC releases new trailer and announces launch date for Ten Pound Poms, starring Michelle Keegan

BBC News26-02-2025

The BBC has today announced that its hit drama, Ten Pound Poms will return for its second series on Sunday 9 March 2025, with all episodes on BBC iPlayer from 6am and the series beginning its weekly BBC One transmission from 8pm that evening. Ten Pound Poms is written and created by the BAFTA award-winning Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Ordinary Lies, Brassic) and is made by Eleven (Sex Education, Red Rose) for BBC iPlayer and BBC One in a co-production with Stan, which airs the series in Australia.
Ten Pound Poms follows a group of Brits leaving post-war Britain to embark on a life-changing adventure on the other side of the world. Today's trailer sees the characters as they head into 1957, with nurse Kate Thorne (Michelle Keegan) trying to forge a future for herself after series one followed her journey to Australia in search of her son, Michael. For the Roberts family (led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown), Terry is determined to find stability and put down roots, whilst Annie rediscovers herself and uncovers exciting opportunities Down Under. With each determined to make Australia everything they hoped it would be for a fresh start, will Kate, Terry and Annie finally get a slice of the Australian dream they were promised?
Today's trailer also sees Robbie (Nic English) share a tender moment with Kate as they rekindle their friendship, whilst a new character - the unscrupulous landlord Benny Bates (Marcus Graham) - is introduced and has some words of wisdom for Terry. Will he bring sunshine into our returning characters' lives... or just more drama?
Ten Pound Poms is produced by Eleven for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, in a co-production with Stan. Danny Brocklehurst is the creator and writer and also executive produces. Joining Danny Brocklehurst on the writing team is Ryan Griffen (Cleverman) alongside Smita Bhide (The Indian Detective). Ana Kokkinos (Fires, The Hunting) and Tom McKay (Jerk, Bloods) are directors on the series, whilst the series producer is Karl Zwicky. Joel Wilson, Olivia Trench, Sophie Williams and Jamie Campbell executive produce for Eleven. Executive producer for the BBC is Gaynor Holmes, and Cailah Scobie and Amanda Duthie are executive producers for Stan.
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) will distribute the series worldwide. Filming wrapped on location in Australia last year, with Curio Pictures providing production services. Ten Pound Poms is financed with support from the NSW Government through Screen NSW's Made in NSW Fund. Post, digital and visual effects also supported by Screen NSW. Ten Pound Poms series one is available to stream now in full on BBC iPlayer.

Fans have just days to watch 'favourite ever rom-com' before it's axed by BBC

Starring Katherine Heigl, the queen of rom-coms, the blockbuster is available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer, but only until June 16. If you like romantic comedies, chances are, you've heard of 27 Dresses. It's the 2008 rom-com directed by Anne Fletcher that sees Katherine Heigl take the reins as the film's leading lady. ‌ A bridesmaid for 27 weddings but never the bride, Jane Nichols (Heigl) is always putting others first, especially her younger sister, Tess. So when Tess decides to get married to Jane's boss, also the man our leading lady has secretly loved forever, Jane must grapple with all the emotions and drama that entails. ‌ That is until she meets Kevin (James Marsden), a cynical wedding journalist who challenges Jane and her beliefs. What follows are achingly familiar rom-com tropes that somehow just work, as Jane tries to find love and her happily ever after. With a screenplay penned by Aline Brosh McKenna, the film also stars Malin Åkerman, Edward Burns, Melora Hardin, Maulik Pancholy, and Judy Greer — rounding out a stellar supporting cast. 27 Dresses is available to stream on BBC iPlayer for the next seven days. The film was a huge success, grossing $162.7 million at the worldwide box-office against a $30 million budget. However, it received mixed reviews from critics upon its release. While one reviewer said: 'Hugely enjoyable, frequently funny romantic comedy with a superb script and a terrific central performance from Katherine Heigl.' Another critic acknowledged the film's lack of originality, yet felt it was a good watch: 'Something old, something borrowed... but still an assured, perfectly decent popcorn pleaser that sees the limber, likeable Heigl consolidate her Knocked Up lustre. Add sparky his/her chemistry and you've got a well-turned-out chick flick.' ‌ Praise for Heigl ran abound, with one critic writing: 'It really is Heigl's film, and she sells both the enthusiasm of someone high on the brilliant potential of love and versed in combatting the barbs of cynicism.' However not all were left impressed: 'What a maddening waste of Katherine Heigl this insipid romantic comedy is.' Audience reviews proved to be a mixed bag as well, with one viewer writing: 'Without a doubt my favourite rom com! Lighthearted and fun with a great soundtrack. Heigl and Marsden are great together! Many laughs!' ‌ While another wrote: 'This movie is one of my favourite movies now. I love everything about this movie. I wish there were still movies like this. The romcom and set up of this whole story line is amazing and the choices for the actors/actresses was amazing as well.' And although some weren't too taken with the film's premise: 'Boring. Seen this type of tripe too many times to have anything good to say about it.' Others thought 27 Dresses has stood the test of time: 'I've seen this movie more times than I can count. This may very well be the last great rom-com made. I'm glad it has aged so well!!' 27 Dresses is available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer till June 16. It's also available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

EXCLUSIVE Stacey Solomon is the epitome of elegance in a plunging silk gown as she swaps heels for comfy slippers while filming on Lake Como

Stacey Solomon looked nothing short of sensational while filming on Lake Como in Italy on Monday. The TV personality, 35, who jetted to the idyllic location to shoot with her haircare brand Rehab, stunned in a cream silk gown. Stacey's dress fitted her gorgeous figure like a glove and boasted a plunging neckline as well as racy slits as she swapped heels for a pair of comfy white slippers. Sporting glam makeup she wore her high-lighted stresses in loose waves before sweeping them high on top her head after reaching the shore. Stacey appeared in great spirits while filming on the picturesque lake and sat at the back of the boat soaking up the sun and taking in the views. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. On Sunday she took to Instagram with snaps as she posed in a square neck white dress that showed off her tanned and toned legs amid the work trip. The mother-of-five documented herself strolling around the grounds and admiring all the jasmine flowers as well as the architecture. She then changed into a black and white ensemble as she filmed content on a boat, admitting it wasn't a task for the 'faint hearted'. Stacey's trip abroad comes after she suffered some heat recently when her followers turned on her over her ill-judged rant after losing out on a prize at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards. However, while she congratulated the winners, Stacey couldn't help but reveal how 'gutted' she was for her team who 'deserved' the award as she declared that they were 'robbed'. Fans claimed Stacey is starting to 'show her true colours' compared to her usual wholesome demeanor and told the BBC presenter to 'grow up' and that she has 'got too big for her boots'. However not everyone agreed and others believed Stacey was being 'refreshingly honest' and was simply just 'disappointed for her team'. In the original video, Stacey fumed: 'We didn't win a BAFTA. And I know I'm supposed to take it gracefully like a champ but, I'll be honest, I'm devastated!. The TV persoanlity appeared in great spirits while filming on the picturesque lake, as she sat at the back of the boat soaking up the sun and taking in the views Stacey accessories her look with gold jewellery but forwent a necklace as she let the dress speak for itself She later swept her glossy locks on top her head after reaching the shore The camera crew were onboard to ensure they captured every moment However Stacey all pulled out her phone to grab snaps of the gorgeous coastline Laughing at her reaction, she continued: 'I'm not handling it very well, I'm not taking it very gracefully - I'm devastated! I'm devastated for our whole team, like I'm so gutted for our team. 'Everyone got dressed up and was really hopeful, I think because they work so hard. It's not an easy show to make, Sort Your Life Out and the team work so hard to make it happen and they so deserve the BAFTA. 'The Sort Your Life Out team deserved a BAFTA and I'm devastated. I'm not saying that everyone else didn't deserve their BAFTAs, they absolutely did. 'People think making TV is really easy and it's not, so everyone deserves recognition. But I'm just gutted for my whole Sort Your Life Out family because I feel like they deserved a BAFTA. I'm gonna say it - I'm gutted!'. Going on to reveal what it takes to make their show, she went on: 'We'll pack up a house and within seven days that house is packed up, into vans, over to a warehouse, laid out on the floor, we go through it meticulously, we make sure it doesn't just get chucked away. 'We donate, we recycle, we resell things. We put it all back and try and put it in systems to help families move forward...' She also gave a shout out to the families who give up their time and open their homes to TV audiences, especially when they run the risk of being judged. Stacey's trip abroad comes after she suffered some heat recently when her followers turned on her over her ill-judged rant after losing out on a prize at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards However, while she congratulated the winners, Stacey couldn't help but reveal how 'gutted' she was for her team who 'deserved' the award as she declared that they were 'robbed' Professional organizer and Stacey's co-star Dilly Carter penned a somewhat more gracious message after losing out on the prize, noting that she was chuffed to even be nominated. Alongside a red carpet video, she said: 'Walking out, like we walked in, with our heads high and super proud of what we have achieved as a show, as a production. 'It's so easy in these moments to feel sad because we haven't won and forget about where we actually are. In a room full of incredible talent. But in the actual room. 'Some people dream of their show being nominated so for us to have been nominated twice is unreal. So let's celebrate the show and just how far it's come. It wasn't so long ago we were just filming a pilot. 'Huge congrats to @rylan and @robrinder. Thank you for all the love and support as always. Now let's get back to filming series 6.'

Huge fears for EastEnders' Linda as Phil unleashes his rage on Elaine

Linda Carter's (Kellie Bright) wellbeing is the subject of much concern in EastEnders next week as Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) clocks how stressed she is. The landlady of the Queen Vic is forced to pick up the pieces for mum Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who is set to make a reckless decision in the wake of her fears about George Knight (Colin Salmon). George, as viewers know, has been keeping secrets from Lainey, such as a secret kiss with his ex Sabrina and his involvement in making her love rival Cindy Beale's (Michelle Collins) opening night a success. With Elaine's head elsewhere, Linda ends up doing the lion's share of the work at The Vic, which leaves Phil incredibly concerned. As a busy night gets underway at the establishment, with Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) and Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan-Levy) among those in attendance, Elaine declares that the prosecco is on the house all night, which leaves Linda utterly reeling. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Phil pops in for a drink with Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) and it doesn't take him long to realise just how much Linda is struggling with the extra workload and therefore he offers her a helping hand. Elaine, meanwhile, offers to book Priya a singles cruise, telling her she can pay her back later. Linda witnesses £5,000 leave the business account and she's utterly horrified. Wasting little time in confronting Elaine, the Carter matriarch demands answers. Elaine, however, is completely indifferent to the situation, dismissing Linda's concerns entirely. The following day, Elaine wakes with a vicious hangover. Linda tries to talk sense into her mum, who once again shuts her down – and refuses to engage with her altogether. Phil continues to worry about Linda, who is quite clearly struggling under the pressure, and therefore he steps in and gives Elaine a piece of his mind, chastising her for treating Linda so carelessly. Left with food for thought, Elaine decides to speak to Linda, who continues to play down her true feelings. And let's just say that she is overwhelmed. More Trending Will Elaine realise that Linda can't do everything on her own? Will she come to realise the error of her ways where Priya is concerned?
