Wrong LLB paper at MU; replacement adds to chaos
Mumbai: In at least the second incident of subject names causing confusion this exam season, Mumbai University students appearing for the 'Law of Crimes' paper from the old syllabus were given the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) paper from the new curriculum. An hour into the exam, the papers were replaced, leading to further confusion as some centres gave the old question paper to regular students as well. A few colleges did not distribute any paper to the repeaters as they waited for the correct paper from the university.The exams were conducted in 53 centres across the university's jurisdiction.Confusion over law papers continued even as MU failed to establish a robust system to differentiate between old criminal laws and new ones that came into effect from June 1, 2024. Pradeep Sawant, senate member from Yuva Sena, said at one of the centres, regular students were given papers from the old syllabus, and after the paper was replaced, students had to write the paper again after one and a half hours."Since most of the syllabus for both the question papers was the same, students were confused too," said Sawant. A principal said at their college, MU issued two question papers in the 75-25 pattern, leading to confusion. An MU official said they would look into the matter. 8 women booked for ‘disrobing, molesting' Mumbai teen over suspicion of openly discarding sanitary pads
Mumbai police Tuesday booked eight women for allegedly disrobing and molesting a 13-year-old girl in their neighbourhood over a suspicion that she was discarding sanitary pads openly in the backyard of their Borivali building. The accused women reportedly barged into the girl's house, disrobed her, and abused her and her mother. According to the police, the incident occurred in March at the staff quarters of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in Borivali, but the girl's family filed the complaint recently. As per the police complaint filed by the girl's mother, four women living in their building barged into their house along with four other unknown women. The accused were angry and said they suspected that the complainant's daughter was dumping used sanitary pads and undergarments in the backyard of their society. They abused the woman and her teenage daughter and, in a bid to check her undergarment, they pulled her forcefully, disrobed her, and also inappropriately touched her, the complainant alleged in the First Information Report (FIR). They are also accused of having used vulgar language while abusing the mother-daughter duo. A police officer from Borivali said the complainant's family has had a longstanding dispute with the families of the accused over the allotment of rooms at the BEST staff quarters. The accused women have filed several grievances against the complainant's family with the BEST administration over this dispute, the police said. 'Earlier, the complainant woman filed a police complaint against the same set of accused women over the disrobing incident but withdrew it later. As she filed a complaint again, we recorded her statement and booked all eight women on Tuesday. No arrest has been made yet, and the probe is on,' said an officer from Borivali police station. The eight women have been booked under sections 74 (criminal force with intent to outrage her modesty), 76 (criminal force to a woman with intent to disrobe), 79 (words intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 329(4) (criminal trespassing) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

Himachal police book YouTuber Puneet Superstar over his videos ‘mocking' Manali residents
The Himachal Pradesh Police on Tuesday booked YouTuber and social media influencer Puneet Kumar, popularly known as Puneet Superstar, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the people in the state through videos in which he portrayed them as people struggling with poverty. The First Information Report (FIR) in this regard was registered at Manali police station under sections 196 (promoting enmity) and 353(2) (making, publishing, and circulating false information) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the police, the influencer recorded multiple videos in Manali, which, when uploaded, hurt the sentiments of the local residents. Speaking to The Indian Express, Manish Sharma, Inspector and Station House Officer (SHO), Manali police station, said, 'The FIR against the influencer was registered on the complaint of Ranvijay Singh of Sundernagar in Mandi district. Singh initially lodged a zero FIR at his nearest police station in Sundernagar, which was later forwarded to Manali station for investigation.' 'We have now registered a fresh FIR. Efforts are underway to trace the influencer. Preliminary investigation suggests that the suspect has deleted the controversial videos from his social media accounts,' the SHO said. As per sources, the videos uploaded by Puneet on his Facebook account mocked the poor, hardworking residents of Manali. In his complaint, Singh alleged that the influencer also made objectionable remarks on the local people's attire, speech, and lifestyle. After the videos went viral on social media, it led to widespread outrage across Himachal Pradesh. A source added that the locations where the videos were filmed and the individuals featured in them are currently being identified.

Uzbek woman's dark trail: Forged Aadhaar, fake marriage; Lucknow's shadow network uncovered
LUCKNOW: A 48-year-old Uzbek woman, Lola Kayumova, accused of involvement in human trafficking and sex work, had reportedly been staying illegally in Lucknow for more than seven years. Although official records list her as married to local resident Janak Pratap Singh, he has denied being her husband. The certificate, issued by a Lucknow court in March 2019, states that Lola and Janak were married on 30 January 2019 at IIMRT Business School, Vipul Khand 6. It lists Janak (38), son of Ayodhya Pratap Singh and Maharaja Devi, as Lola's husband. However, Janak told TOI over the phone, 'I'm not married to Lola, though I know her for long time. The document of marriage certificate is forged.' When TOI visited Janak's residence in Tulsi Vihar Colony, Rajajipuram, the house was found empty. A neighbour, who wished to remain unnamed, said, 'Janak's mother and his brother left to undisclosed location abruptly on Tuesday morning.' Lola's Aadhaar card, issued on 1 August 2021 and updated on 21 April 2025, also lists Janak as her spouse. The address on the card is Orchid B, Omaxe R1, near the UP Police headquarters. She previously lived at Ambrosia D, Omaxe Residency 2. Two rescued Uzbek nationals, Holida and Nilofar, told authorities that several foreign women were brought to India through Lola's network, with many undergoing surgeries at Dr Gupta's clinic.
