BJP president Nadda hails Modi, slams Nehru over Indus Waters Treaty
In a series of posts on X, Mr. Nadda went into details on the inception of the IWT and that former Prime Minister Nehru had not taken Parliament into confidence while concluding the agreement.
'The most appalling aspect was that he did it without consulting the Indian Parliament. The treaty was signed in September 1960. However, it was placed before Parliament only two months later, in November, and that too, for a token discussion of mere two hours,' Mr. Nadda said.
'History must call it what it was: Nehru's Himalayan Blunder. A Prime Minister who disregarded Parliament, gambled away India's lifelines, and tied India's hands for generations. Even today, India would have continued to pay the price for one man's misplaced idealism, if not for Prime Minister Modi's bold leadership and his commitment to nation first,' he added.
By putting the IWT in abeyance, Mr. Modi has corrected 'yet another grave historical wrong committed by Congress', Mr. Nadda said.
The IWT was suspended by India following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.
Mr. Nadda's remarks came after Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir recently told members of the Pakistani diaspora in the U.S. that any reduction in water flow would be met with destruction of Indian infrastructure. He also issued a nuclear warning, stating, 'We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we'll take half the world down with us.'

SP produces affidavits of 2022; accuses CEC of 'lying brazenly'
NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party Monday accused the CEC of "lying brazenly" that the party had not given any affidavit on the deletion of voters in Uttar Pradesh, even as Akhilesh Yadav alleged targeted deletion of backward and most backward class voters, who back SP, at the behest of the governing party. As the row over voter deletion deepened Monday, SP affidavits became the opposition's propaganda weapon with INDIA bloc MPs holding them up during the protest against SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar and Election Commission at the Parliament entrance ahead of proceedings in the morning. SP leader Ramgopal Yadav said EC was "lying" about the affidavits, saying they were filed for 2022 state polls, while complaints were submitted about UP bypolls, including in Mainpuri. Akhilesh distributed copies of the affidavits around in Parliament complex, asserting that 18,000 complaints on stamp papers were submitted to EC in a rush after he received an EC notice asking that he support his claims about voter deletion in the 2022 state elections. There is also a proper procedure for creating a voter ID but that is being ignored," he alleged. At the same time, SP leaders alleged that SDM officers who conduct the elections are deliberately picked from "the community of the chief minister" while those seen as belonging to communities that support SP are changed. Angry at Rahul, Modi blocking BC quota bills: CM
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was blocking approval of the two BC reservation bills and an ordinance to remove the 50% cap on reservations because of his anger at Rahul Gandhi 's fight for education, employment, and political empowerment of Backward Classes. "If PM Modi and Union minister G Kishan Reddy have anything against Rahul Gandhi's stand for justice to the BCs, let them book more cases against him individually. Already, there are several cases pending. But they should stop blocking the BC quota bills. Modi and Kishan Reddy should take up the issue with the President and ensure assent for the two bills passed by the Telangana assembly and the ordinance. Uproar over activist's allegation that Siddaramaiah committed 28 murders
Bengaluru/Mangaluru: The legislative assembly Monday witnessed heated exchanges after it was revealed that activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, who demanded a special investigation team (SIT) to probe alleged mass murders in Dharmasthala, claimed "chief minister Siddaramaiah had committed 28 murders". Home minister G Parameshwara has reportedly directed police to register a suo motu case and arrest Thimarodi. After speaking to senior police officers, he is said to have asked them to move swiftly. "Should we allow someone to go when he has spoken against the CM," he reportedly asked. Officers informed him that the video in which Thimarodi makes the accusation was from May 2023. "Police are verifying the video and if the charges are true, he will be arrested in a day or two," police sources said.
