Rail Roko For 42pc BC Quota: Kavitha's ‘trailer show' on July 17; warns of train services taking a hit
The BRS leader announced a 'Rail Roko' protest for 17 July, demanding Presidential assent for the BC reservation bill passed by the Telangana Assembly. As an interim measure, she demanded that the Revanth Reddy government in Telangana issue a Government Order (GO) to implement the enhanced reservations in accordance with provisions under Article 243(D) of the Constitution. She questioned why Rahul Gandhi, who carries a copy of the Constitution around the country, was not advising the Telangana Chief Minister to issue such a GO.
Speaking at a press conference at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, Kavitha declared: 'We won't allow even a single train to move. Trains from Deccan to Delhi will be stopped. This is just a trailer. If the bill is not approved, we'll go for an indefinite Rail Roko. The 2.5 crore BC population in Telangana will teach the BJP a lesson.' She accused both the BJP and the Congress of betraying the BCs, adding that she would write letters to all political parties seeking support for the implementation of BC reservations.
Kavitha alleged that the Congress-led government passed the BC reservation bill in the state assembly and sent it to the President merely to wash its hands of the matter. She also targeted Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, claiming that his concern for BCs began only after Congress lost power in 2014. Kavitha pointed out that even Congress-ruled states like Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh have not yet conducted caste censuses.
Kavitha urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who identifies himself as an OBC, to ensure justice for BCs by taking steps for Presidential approval of the Telangana BC reservation bills. She proposed that the Telangana BC bill be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, similar to Tamil Nadu's 69 per cent reservation policy.

The election to the post of Vice-President of India is conducted under a constitutionally mandated process overseen by the Election Commission. Unlike the Presidential poll, it involves only Members of Parliament as electors, with each carrying a single vote. The elections this year will feature C. P. The Vice-President is elected by an Electoral College comprising members of both Houses of Parliament, including nominated members. State legislatures play no role in this election. In 2025, the electorate consists of 782 MPs after accounting for vacancies, 543 in the Lok Sabha and 233 elected plus 12 nominated in the Rajya Sabha. Each member's vote carries equal value. BJP Targets Congress's 'Vote Chori' Campaign After Psephologist's Apology
New Delhi: Two days after he flagged significant voter additions and deletions in the Maharashtra Assembly election, psephologist Sanjay Kumar of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) has apologised and deleted the posts, triggering a massive political showdown. The BJP has accused the research body of putting out unverified data to feed the Congress's "fake narrative". The main Opposition has responded that it used CSDS data, but also corroborated its findings based on evidence collected separately. In a surprise development, Sanjay Kumar deleted his tweets that alleged a sharp rise and fall in the number of voters in several Assembly constituencies in Maharashtra and apologised for the "error". "I sincerely apologize for the tweets posted regarding Maharashtra elections. Error occurred while comparing data of 2024 LS and 2024 AS. The data in row was misread by our data team. The tweet has since been removed. I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation," he said in a post on X. He also claimed that the number of voters sharply fell in Ramtek and Devlali seats by 38 per cent and 36 per cent, respectively. The claims provided fresh ammo to Congress in its 'vote fraud' offensive against the BJP and were shared by its top leaders in an attempt to corner the ruling party. With Sanjay Kumar now deleting his posts and apologising, the BJP has launched its counterstrike. Senior BJP leader and the party's IT head, Amit Malviya, said the institution Leader of the Opposition, Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi relied on to make his allegations has now admitted that its figures were wrong. The Election Commission has trashed these allegations and asked Mr Gandhi to submit an affidavit, reiterating these remarks, or apologise. Despite Mr Sanjay Kumar's apology, the Congress is sticking to its guns. Party spokesperson Sujata Paul told NDTV that the CSDS is just one of the sources the Congress sourced its data from. "As far as we are concerned, we might have taken up this data, but we have also corroborated it with evidence that we have got from our sources, our workers, and the entire opposition that was fighting the elections together in Maharashtra," she said. "The CSDS data was just used as additional evidence. And why he (Sanjay Kumar) apologised, that is his problem, not ours," she added.
