Interference won't work, innovation will: Fadnavis
Fadnavis was in the city to sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Niti Aayog for Pune Metropolitan Region Growth Hub. Pune is the fifth growth hub in the country.
While giving his speech, the chief minister said, 'A big bottleneck of Pune's industrial development is 'local dadagiri' - the interference in the industries by local leaders and goons. They are the ones determining terms about manpower, raw material and others. This is affecting development.'
Fadnavis said that this can be achieved only if the socio-political system for industries undergoes change. 'We cannot ask them to work under pressure. Pune has a lot of potential but other centres like Sambhajinagar and Nagpur are fast emerging. Industries are going there even though Pune's biggest capital is manpower and innovation. Hence, the city should concentrate on innovation. Sambhajinagar is the leading EV capital and very soon, it will cross Pune,' he added.
Niti Aayog's chief executive officer V R Subramanyham spoke about Pune's advantages, potential, and the weak points it needs to tackle to become a world-class city.
'The central government has already identified and started work for four economic growth hubs and the project implementations have started. Now, we are going to declare five more economic growth hubs, including Pune and Katak. Pune is leading in manufacturing, IT, automobile and education but there are many more sectors which have a lot of potential. For example, agri processing and urban tourism.'
He also touched on poor public transport, road network, less open spaces, and traffic issues, calling them hindrances to Pune's growth.
Earlier, the chief minister had announced with regard to infrastructure that his government is planning a new Airport Road and a Ring Road. 'It would create more positive impact for the city. Earlier, land and capital used to attract industries but nowadays, industries are going where skilled manpower is available,' he said.
Fadnavis also said that to meet global standards, a place need to have ease of business and hassle-free policies. 'Government needs to change its mindset and approve the required permissions within a timeframe. Execution of project on time is important, otherwise the projects become generation projects which keep on progressing but with no output,' he added.

CII's Vidarbha zonal office to boost regional growth
Nagpur: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) opened a new Vidarbha Zonal office in the city. "The office will work as a platform to strengthen policy dialogue, innovation, and enterprise development in the region," said CII chairman Rishi Bagla. The office will also cover businesses in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The CII also held a seminar India@100 on boosting the region's development. CM Fadnavis Performs Bhoomipujan of Vidarbha's First Fisheries College in Morshi
1 2 3 4 Amravati: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday performed the bhoomipujan for Vidarbha's first and the state's fourth Fisheries College at Morshi in Amravati district. Speaking at the ceremony, Fadnavis said that fisheries is now a priority sector after being granted the status of farming by the state govt, enabling fish farmers to avail loans, Kisan Credit Cards, and other benefits. "Though sea fishing gets more attention, 40% of fishing activity happens in rivers. We are committed to supporting river fishing and farm-lake fisheries, which are creating jobs and helping farmers in distress," he said. Fadnavis stated that the ₹1 lakh crore Wainganga-Nalganga water project will bring water from the Gosikhurd dam to 31 reservoirs in Buldhana district. Additionally, ₹25,000 crore will be invested in agriculture over the next five years. Fisheries minister Nitesh Rane promised to complete the college building within two years and shared plans for AI-based innovations in the fisheries sector. As Bordikar, Shirsat stoke row, CM jumps to their defence: Ministers sometimes speak jokingly
EVEN as two more state ministers landed in controversy in the last two days, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who last week had warned ministers against making controversial statements, on Sunday defended his cabinet colleagues. As videos of the two ministers — Sanjay Shirsat from Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Meghna Bordikar from BJP — surfaced, Fadnavis jumped to their defence, stating ministers in their speeches sometimes speak jokingly. 'If we make an issue out of everything, it won't be appropriate,' the chief minister said. As for Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat, Fadnavis said, 'I don't think what Shirsat said is wrong.' Regarding Bordikar, Fadnavis said, 'I have spoken to her and she told me that the media has not shown her complete statement. I will be discussing her statement with her.' On Saturday, Shirsat found himself in the eye of another storm after making a public statement at an event that people should ask for any amount, he as a minister will sanction it. The money, he said, 'is not going from our father's pockets'. The opposition quickly slammed him, calling his attitude toward public money as a ''cavalier'. Shirsat, however, defended his statement. 'I was trying to encourage people to take funds under various welfare schemes of the government. What I meant to say was that money belonged to the people and it was not anyone's wealth,' he said. On Sunday, Minister of State Meghna Bordikar triggered a row after a video showing her allegedly threatening to slap a gram sevak if he fails to bring beneficiaries of a government scheme to a public function surfaced. Opposition Nationalist Congress Party (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar Saturday shared the video, shot during an event at Jintur in the Parbhani district, on social media. In a post on X, written in Marathi, Pawar said, 'A minister has threatened to slap a gram sevak if he failed to bring the beneficiary of a government scheme to the government function. Who has given her the power to threaten the gram sevak?' Taking a jibe at CM Fadnavis, Pawar added, 'What kind of a minister have you succeeded in picking? With such ministers, it is an affront not just your Cabinet but the state of Maharashtra.' Reacting to the video of her speech, Bordikar, the two-time MLA from Jintur, said, 'I expressed my anger at a function yesterday. At the function, zilla parishad officials were present. This particular gram sevak was not taking the welfare schemes being implemented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to the poor people. He was creating impediments.' She said women labourers had informed her that the gram sevak was not giving them government funds and telling them to repeatedly go to the sarpanch's house. 'I lost cool because the women labourers had complained to me about the harassment from the gram sevak,' said Bordikar, who is the Minister of State for Public Health, Water Supply and Sanitation, Energy, Women and Child Development, and Public Works (Public Undertakings). She is also the Guardian Minister of the Parbhani district. Hitting back at Pawar and the Opposition, she said, 'The video was edited and what I said before making the statement and after has not been shown.' The Sena (UBT) said the Chief Minister and his government has become helpless because of the 'alliance dharma'. 'I have never seen a chief minister who is so helpless. No one can seek any answer from anyone in his cabinet,' Uddhav Thackeray said, adding that his party will state state-wide protests against corruption of Fadnavis ministers.
