Michigan football steals 4-star EDGE from South Carolina
The recruiting surge continues! The Michigan football team landed yet another impressive commitment on Tuesday as four-star EDGE Julian Walker announced that he will play for head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines. North Carolina and South Carolina were two main competitors here, and it is especially impressive that Michigan beat out the Gamecocks. Walker's father, Jamil Walker, is the assistant football strength and conditioning coach at South Carolina. His son would rather play for Michigan.

'BREAKING: Four-Star EDGE Julian Walker has Committed to Michigan, he tells me for @rivals,' Hayes Fawcett said in a post. 'The 6'6 250 EDGE from Columbia, SC chose the Wolverines over North Carolina & South Carolina.'
Julian Walker had a message for the college football world upon his commitment to the Michigan football team:
'I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a MICHIGAN MAN,' he said.
Walker is a four-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the #155 player in the 2026 recruiting class, the #16 EDGE and the #3 player in the state of South Carolina. Walker currently attends Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, SC. The in-state Gamecocks tried their best, but Michigan was the right fit for this elite prospect.

'Walker possesses great overall size and length that correlates well to the next level as a 3-4 defensive lineman,' Walker's scouting report reads. 'He has fluid movements to get past the offensive tackle from both inside and outside rushes. Chases the ball with a great motor and can turn and flatten down the line of scrimmage.'
Michigan has had some elite pass rushers come through the program in recent years, and Walker is good enough to be one of the next. The sky is the limit for him.
'Plays with reactive quickness and has a counter move,' the scouting report continues. 'Walker has the strength and toughness to be disruptive against the run and make plays as a true 3-down player. Depending on body type and how he develops, Walker could potentially move inside on passing downs.'
The 2026 Michigan football recruiting class is shaping up to be a special one. The Wolverines got off to a slow start, but the commitments are now pouring in almost daily. Sherrone Moore and Michigan now have one of the best recruiting classes in the country, and more commitments are coming. Numerous top targets are expected to announce their decisions this week, and the Wolverines are in great position with a lot of them.

CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney believes Clemson football can be the first 16-0 team in modern college football history. "It's a race to do it. I believe we can do it," Swinney said Aug. 6. "I don't know if this team will do it." Swinney wanted to clear up a quote that was featured in an Aug. 4 ESPN article, where he was quoted "In 2018, we were the first 15-0 team in the history of major college football − ever. And I think we're going to be the first 16-0 team. It's a race to do that." He is reluctant to heap that much praise on this year's team despite Clemson returning more production than any other team in Division I, according to ESPN. The Tigers are No. 6 in the coaches poll and are one of five teams to earn at least one first-place vote. They also have numerous players earning preseason accolades, including quarterback Cade Klubnik, who is viewed as a Heisman contender. Still, Swinney's confidence stems from the Tigers in 2018 becoming the first 15-0 team since 1900 (Penn went 15-0 in 1897). That season, Clemson was No. 4 in scoring average and No. 1 in scoring defense, outscoring opponents by a 31.2-point average, to capture the program's third national championship. "I do believe we can be the first 16-0 team," Swinney said. "We were the first 15-0 team, so why would I not believe that?" For this year's Tigers to achieve a feat last seen since Yale in 1984, they must overcome No. 9 LSU on Aug. 30 (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC) at Memorial Stadium. This will be Clemson's second consecutive season opening the season against an SEC opponent; the Tigers lost 34-3 to No. 1 Georgia in 2024. Swinney emphasized failing to do the "little things,' like committing untimely penalties that ruined momentum or pushed back drives, derailed the Tigers last season. The Tigers lost their last three games against SEC opponents, too. Dabo Swinney on Peter Woods' absence, Jeadyn Lukus, Khalil Barnes injuries Clemson entered preseason practice in a "good spot," per Swinney, but the wear and tear is taking a toll on the Tigers. One concern was defensive tackle Peter Woods, who was not present for Clemson's practice, but Swinney said he was out because he was sick. However, Swinney announced running back Jarvis Green likely will miss the 2025 season after suffering a foot injury that will require surgery. Now, Clemson's running-back room features projected starter Adam Randall, Keith Adams, David Eziomume and freshman Gideon Davidson. Jay Haynes is still wearing a green jersey (limited participation) as he recovers from a torn ACL. Other key players who were out were cornerback Jeadyn Lukus and safety Khalil Barnes. Lukus was in a yellow non-contact jersey after he wore one Aug. 1. Barnes wore one, too, after being healthy for Clemson's first two practices. Offensive lineman Collin Sadler was in green, allowing Harris Sewell to work with the first-team unit. The good news was tight end Olsen Patt-Henry was full go after being in yellow to start preseason practice as he recovered from getting his tonsils removed. WNBA star A'ja Wilson to be inducted into South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame
COLUMBIA — WNBA star A'ja Wilson is one of six former student-athletes being inducted into the University of South Carolina Athletics Hall of Fame this year, the school announced Aug. 4. The induction ceremony will be on Oct. 23. The 2025 Hall of Fame class also will be honored during the South Carolina football game against Alabama on Oct. 25, which is homecoming weekend on campus. Wilson played for coach Dawn Staley from 2014-18 and was a member of the program's first national championship team in 2017. She was drafted No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Aces in the 2018 WNBA Draft, where she's played her entire pro career. Wilson's jersey was hung in the rafters and officially retired on Feb. 2. At South Carolina, she was a three-time SEC Player of the Year (2016, 2017, 2018) and the program's first four-time All-American, including three first-team selections (2016, 2017, 2018). When the Gamecocks won the title in 2017, she was named the MVP of the 2017 Final Four. She was MVP of the SEC Tournament twice. Wilson is the school's record holder in points (2,389), blocks (363) and blocks per game (2.6). She's fourth all time in rebounds with 1,195. COLUMBIA — South Carolina women's basketball's SEC schedule was announced Aug. 5. The Gamecocks will face MiLaysia Fulwiley, the star guard who transferred from coach Dawn Staley's program to LSU, on Feb. 14 in Baton Rouge. Times and TV channels will be announced at a later date.
