BERLIN (Germany), May 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has been honoured with the UN award that recognises the participation of female peacekeepers in its peacekeeping missions at the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025 in Berlin, Germany.
The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Headquarters, in a statement, said the award recognises the operational deployment and involvement of female peacekeepers from the Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which met the targets set by the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy (UGPS).
It said that Malaysia is among the countries that advocate the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, adding that 10.5 per cent of the total peacekeeping mission personnel for MALBATT UNIFIL consist of women.
"Besides UNIFIL, the MAF has also deployed female peacekeepers as military observers and staff for MONUSCO (UN Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo), MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara), and UNISFA (UN Interim Security Force for Abyei)," read the statement.
The MAF said the award recognises Malaysia's contribution to upholding international peace and security on the global stage.
Other recipients are Fiji, Guatemala, Kenya, Malawi, Mongolia, and Tanzania.
The MAF Headquarters Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Datuk Azhan Md Othman, and the Military Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN, Colonel Shamsuri Noordin, attended the award ceremony.
Yesterday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin reaffirmed the country's continued commitment to supporting the WPS agenda in line with the UGPS.

Government agencies and MADANI community urged to raise Jalur Gemilang

KOTA BHARU: All federal and state government agencies, along with the MADANI community nationwide, have been urged to take a proactive role in promoting patriotism by raising the Jalur Gemilang at their premises in conjunction with National Month celebrations. Kelantan Information Department (JAPEN) director Muhd Aswadi Md Nor said active involvement from government agencies and the MADANI community is key to ensuring the message of love for the country reaches the people widely. 'As institutions close to the community, government agencies and neighbourhood associations must set an example for locals by decorating their buildings or homes with the Jalur Gemilang as a manifestation of unity and love for the nation.' 'The responsibility of raising the Jalur Gemilang should be shared and driven collectively by all levels of society,' he told Bernama after flagging off the Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Journey (KMJG) 2025 convoy at Politeknik Kota Bharu today. The event was officiated by National Kenaf and Tobacco Board chairman Datuk Seri Md Alwi Che Ahmad. KMJG 2025 in Kelantan, held over two days, began at Kolej Komuniti Jeli before proceeding to Tanah Merah, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, and ending in Machang before being handed over to the Terengganu KMJG convoy. KMJG 2025 is part of initiatives to enliven National Month and Malaysia Day celebrations under the theme 'Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni,' aligning with the nation's leadership vision rooted in humanity, social well-being, and justice. - Bernama

Malaysia records RM3.29bil approved investments in AI for January-June

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has successfully drawn approved investments totalling RM3.29 billion for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector under the Digital Malaysia initiative for the period from January to June this year, with the potential to create approximately 6,920 job opportunities. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the achievement showed investor confidence in Malaysia's potential as a regional AI hub, thus strengthening the country's position in the global digital ecosystem. He said the contribution of AI and technology to the country's gross domestic product in 2023 was 23.5 per cent, and the government targeted the contribution to grow to 25.5 per cent by the end of 2025. "I am confident that this target can be achieved based on positive developments in investments, talent development and the implementation of various AI use cases across sectors," he said. He was replying to a question from Datuk Wira Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) on the progress achieved by the National AI Office so far and what its contribution is to the development of AI. This achievement is in line with the government's efforts to develop the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, based on data, talent, and infrastructure, to ensure that the benefits of technology can be maximised for the economy and the rakyat.
