Prosecutors decline to pursue battery and domestic violence case against Browns rookie Judkins
Judkins was arrested on July 14 by Fort Lauderdale police after they received a report of battery that he allegedly committed a week earlier near the city's airport.
The assistant state attorney assigned to review the case wrote in a memorandum that there were several reasons not to prosecute, including the delayed report, a lack of video evidence and a lack of independent witnesses.
'Although the victim had photos showing injuries sustained, there were also videos in that same time frame where no injuries were observed to the victim. Additionally, the victim's injuries depicted in the photos could be explained by either account of the incident,' the memo said.
Judkins, the only NFL draft pick who remains unsigned, could be subject to discipline under the league's personal conduct policy.
The 21-year-old Judkins was the 36th pick in the NFL draft after rushing for 1,060 yards and 14 touchdowns at Ohio State last season.
The Browns drafted Judkins in the hopes that he could become the team's lead running back after Nick Chubb signed with the Houston Texans. Cleveland also drafted Dylan Sampson in the fourth round.

A bicyclist is dead after he was struck and killed by a juvenile riding a dirt bike on the Rickenbacker Causeway on Friday night, police said. Murder charge over death in suburban park
A man has been charged with murder over the death of 29-year-old Trevor Doyle. Mr Doyle was found dead on a footpath at Reserve Park at Slacks Creek, in Brisbane's south, on Wednesday morning by a local resident. Having initially suspected Mr Doyle met someone at the park before an attack, police on Sunday charged a 28-year-old Slacks Creek man with his murder. He was additionally charged with breaching a domestic violence order and drug offences, after police raided two houses on Sunday morning. He is set to face the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday. Speaking a day after the body was found, police indicated Mr Doyle went to the park on Tuesday night between 7pm and Wednesday morning. They did not know how long he had been dead in the park, and could not find a weapon in the immediate area. Friends took to social media to pay tribute to Mr Doyle, fondly remembered for being a good friend at the Indigenous Murri School in Brisbane and a keen dancer.

Florida continues capital punishment record with execution date for triple murderer
A Florida man convicted of a triple murder and arson is scheduled for execution, as the state continues its record-breaking pace of capital punishment under Governor Ron DeSantis. David Pittman, 63, is set to die on 17 September, following a death warrant signed by Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. Pittman was found guilty of fatally stabbing his estranged wife's sister and parents before setting their house ablaze. This execution would mark the 12th scheduled in Florida this year, a figure that extends the state's recent record for capital punishment. The previous highest annual total since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976 was eight executions in 2014. Florida has already carried out nine executions in 2023, surpassing any other US state. Texas and South Carolina currently rank second, each having conducted four executions. Two other men, Kayle Bates and Curtis Windom, are also awaiting execution later this month in Florida. A total of 28 people have been executed so far this year in the U.S., exceeding the 25 executions carried out last year. It ties 2015, when 28 people were also put to death. Pittman was convicted and sentenced to death in 1991 on three counts of first-degree murder, according to court records. Jurors also found him guilty of arson and grand theft. Pittman and his wife, Marie, were going through a divorce in May 1990, when Pittman went to the Polk County home of her parents, Clarence and Barbara Knowles, officials said. Pittman fatally stabbed the couple, as well as their younger daughter, Bonnie. He then set fire to the house and stole Bonnie Knowles' car, which he also set on fire, investigators said. A witnessed identified Pittman as the person running away from the burning car. A jailhouse informant also testified that Pittman had admitted to the killings. The Florida Supreme Court is already scheduled to hear an appeal. An appeal will also likely be filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.
