"The Nagpur campus will help law enforcement agencies prevent, reduce, and detect crimes through scientific techniques. It will also expedite the justice delivery system by strengthening forensic capabilities and enhancing forensic capabilities of all stakeholders," said Vyas, a Padmashree awardee and founding vice-chancellor of NFSU. He added that the new campus would open "career doors for students across western India.
"
Starting from the academic year 2025–26, the Nagpur campus will launch five academic programmes focused on forensic sciences and cyber security. The list includes MSc Forensic Science, BTech and MTech in Cyber Security, as well as BBA and MBA programmes related to management and forensic disciplines.
The temporary campus, now operational at Subhash Nagar, is equipped with smart classrooms, a digital forensics laboratory, toxicology and cyber security labs, a library, seminar halls, hostels, dining facilities, and indoor sports areas.
Recreational zones include table tennis and volleyball courts. A short film on the occasion highlighted NFSU's national and international footprint, including its campus in Uganda, was shown to the dignitaries.
Spread across 50 acres, the permanent Chicholi campus will feature academic blocks, hostels, faculty housing, lecture halls, departmental units, and full-fledged sports infrastructure. The new institution aims to bridge the growing need for forensic professionals in law enforcement, judiciary, and internal security.
NFSU was established in 2009 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he was Gujarat chief minister, to develop skilled professionals in forensic sciences. The university currently operates in Gujarat, Delhi, Goa, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Assam, Manipur, Pune, and internationally in Uganda.

Kashmir blushes red with bumper apple crop

Following months of slumber, Sopore fruit mandi is once again abuzz with the sound of vehicles bringing in the season's first apple crop for sale. The July month is considered a very important time for fruit development, the rainfall has not only given magnificent colour to different early varieties of apples but has also ripened the harvest. (File) In the early hours everyday, pickup trucks, tractors, small vans and horse carts loaded with fruit boxes head towards Mazbough village in Sopore where Asia's second largest mandi is located. The back to back rainfall in July has given growers a good hope for not only bumper fruit crops but also best quality apples. As per data of meteorological department, Kashmir has received normal to excess rainfall especially in the belts producing quality apples. The July month is considered a very important time for fruit development, the rainfall has not only given magnificent colour to different early varieties of apples but has also ripened the harvest. 'When there was a heatwave in June we were staring at a very messy situation. But we were hopeful after the first rainfall and were expecting a bumper crop. Across Kashmir apple orchards have good fruit even the high density apples have good yield this season,' said Sahib Ahmad Khan who owns several orchards in north Kashmir. He said right now, besides two to three early varieties like Hazratbali and red delicious apples, three to four varieties of high density apples, are also being harvested across Kashmir. 'Right from the start the market locally as well outside mandies is very good,' he said. Sopore fruit mandi president Fayaz Ahmad Malik said that 40 to 50 apple trucks are being loaded from the mandi every day. 'Even dozens of trucks are also being dispatched from other mandies of the Valley. So far the market is good and it's because the fruit quality is good due to timely rainfall,' he said adding that now with every passing day more and more trucks will arrive in the mandies and by next month 300 to 400 fruit trucks will be dispatched across the country. 'We hope this year growers will make good profit.' Kashmir is India's largest apple-producing region, fetching revenue of over ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 crore to the Union territory, and contributing around 8-10% of its gross domestic product. The UT produces around 20 lakh metric tonnes of apples per year. Around seven lakh farming families (approximately 35 lakh people) are directly or indirectly associated with the horticulture sector. 'The season has already started. First it was stone fruits and cherries, now different apple varieties are arriving in the mandis. The markets are promising and prospects also look good. Hopefully things will remain the same incoming months,' said Javeed Ahmad Dar, a grower from south Kashmir. This year stone fruit and cherries also fetched good prices despite early spring weather vagaries.

Rs25,567Cr Mobility Plan To Ease Nagpur Gridlock

Nagpur: After months of deliberation and consultations with stakeholders, the much-anticipated ₹25,567-crore Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for the Nagpur Metropolitan Region (NMR) has entered its final stage before implementation. The latest and most detailed version of the plan was presented on Sunday to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Nagpur guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and representatives from 16 departments during the third and concluding stakeholder meeting. Officials from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), MahaMetro, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), traffic police, and the district collectorate were present at the meeting held at Metro Bhawan. The CMP, jointly prepared by MahaMetro and RITES, aims to streamline mobility, reduce congestion, and build long-term transport infrastructure for the region, which spans 3,780 sq. km and has a population of over 43.7 lakh. The final version of the plan reflects a significant budget hike of nearly ₹7,000 crore compared to the previous draft, indicating the inclusion of several new infrastructure components and upgrades pegged at ₹18,585 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 10 Signs Your Dog Loves You More Than Anything Liseer Read More Undo Divided into three phases, the CMP allocates ₹13,927 crore for Phase 1, ₹10,774 crore for Phase 2, and ₹865 crore for Phase 3. A major addition in the latest draft is the proposed 148-km six-lane peripheral ring road, estimated at ₹3,700 crore. This key project, forming part of Phase 2, will act as a regional bypass connecting major highways including NH-44, NH-47, NH-353, NH-53, and the Samruddhi Mahamarg, thereby diverting heavy traffic away from the city core. "Urbanisation is increasing rapidly, especially in areas like the Mihan and Koradi-Kamptee belt. The road and transport infrastructure must be upgraded accordingly. All agencies must act swiftly on the final plan," said Gadkari. The plan focuses heavily on five core areas — non-motorised transport (NMT) facilities, mobility management, public transport, freight infrastructure, and road upgrades. These areas encompass 20 specific sectors, such as electric buses, intelligent traffic systems, flyovers, underpasses, off-street parking, and pedestrian-friendly pathways. The CMP also proposes restrictions on the movement of long-distance commercial vehicles within city limits from 7am to 9pm, relocation of godowns from the core city area, and promotion of smaller, low-emission cargo vehicles in inner zones. Four freight terminals are planned: Automotive Chowk and Kapsi in Phase 1, Gumgaon in Phase 2, and Gondkhairi in Phase 3 — each estimated at ₹20 crore. "To shape the growing expansion of the Nagpur metropolis, we will implement the mobility plan in three phases. I appeal to citizens and public representatives to share their suggestions, so the plan becomes more people-oriented," Fadnavis said during the meeting. Officials confirmed that a 15-day window has been opened for final suggestions or modifications from participating departments. The DPR, once ready, will be submitted to the state and then to the central government for final approval, after which it will be implemented on the ground. The first mobility plan for Nagpur city was prepared in 2013 by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT). It was revised by MahaMetro in July 2018 and updated again with wider inputs through meetings chaired by the divisional commissioner.
