Fences built around Oasis's Manchester gig as ticketless fans given warning

Metro6 days ago
'Necessary measures' have been implemented to prevent ticketless fans from accessing Oasis's Manchester show from afar at Heaton Park.
The reunited Britpop rockers had a euphoric homecoming over the weekend, with hundreds of fans who didn't manage to get their hands on a ticket flocking to the renamed 'Gallagher Hill' to watch the stage from a high vanatge point.
The Wonderwall hitmakers – Liam and Noel – are set to return to Manchester tomorrow, July 16, but the council has confirmed no stragglers will be able to catch the show – and urged them not to try.
On Tuesday, steel fencing was erected 'around a large area of the hill within the cattle field in the main park' where 300 young whips have recently been planted in order to develop a new woodland area for the park.
These measures also include protection for the livestock in the field which includes nursing cows and a bull. The dual purpose of the fence protects the wildlife and wards off any of those attempting to still come along.
Meanwhile, the arena itself is double-walled with solid high security fencing and surrounded by 2000 security personnel, with no long-distance visibility of the arena.
Councillor John Hacking, Executive Member for Employment, Skills and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said their 'hand had been forced' to prioritise public safety and 'minimise' enivronmental impact.
He continued: 'Our advice to music fans who don't have tickets for the concerts is to head into the city centre instead.
'The whole city is going all out to celebrate and help everyone have a good time. We've got some fantastic things going on with a real party atmosphere for everyone to enjoy whether they've got tickets for the Oasis gigs or not.'
The Heaton Park Instagram account reiterated this plea, telling its followers to 'not travel for the concert if you do not have a ticket for the event.'
This means the final three shows – on Wednesday, Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 – will not have a repeat of last week's shenanigans.
Fans have shared their devastation at the development with one Instagram commenter, gemmamono, writing it was 'utterly miserable'.
'That's absolutely ridiculous,' user steph_hampson echoed.
Loop1501 called it a 'terrible move' and coynemorgan said to 'let people enjoy it'.
Others praised the decision, however, with goodfood_mcr telling them 'well done' and another agreeing it made sense as a 'safety thing'.
This comes after arrests were made following some fans trying to scale the fences surrounding the gig, with 15 arrested in total over the first two nights.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle said: 'We have been planning for these events for several months, working with partners and the organisers to make sure everyone can enjoy the concerts safely. More Trending
'To that end, I'm pleased to say that the first two Oasis homecoming events have been a success.
'What has been especially pleasing is how more than 100,000 people have enjoyed these iconic events safely and without trouble. We will have a highly visible presence in and around Heaton Park, and across the city, to ensure the next three events continue to pass safely.'

‘I went to an Oasis gig and here's what all the cool women were wearing'

Our beauty editor Laura Mulley was at one of the Oasis shows in Manchester this weekend, and if you're wondering what to wear to your upcoming gig, here's some inspiration I was lucky enough to get tickets to see Oasis play at Heaton Park in Manchester on Saturday night, and it was as incredible as all the fans are saying; if you've got tickets for an upcoming show – or are hoping to buy some last-minute ones – you're in for a real treat. However, I ummed and ahhed about what I should wear to it for quite a while beforehand. It needed to be practical for the long day spend, in my case, in a field, yet as someone how loves fashion, I still wanted to look cool. Of course, the majority of people were wearing the band's merchandise, namely T-shirts and bucket hats; these can be bought in advance via the official Oasis store, or you'll be able to pick one up from vendors at or outside the venue. You'll also find loads of great options on the high street, including at Next, Debenhams and Amazon. As I attended Heaton Park, a fully open-air venue, wellies or boots and raincoats were definitely needed (I ordered this leopard print one from ASOS). If you're going to Wembley Stadium, however, trainers would be acceptable; keep with the band's connection to Adidas with a pair of Spezials. Here's what else to pair your merch with... A crossbody bag Safe and easily accessible yet stylish, a crossbody bag is perfect for gigs as it leaves your hands free. I took my everyday Arket black crossbody bag, but the cult classic Uniqlo Round Mini Shoulder Bag, £14.90, is perfect for this – it's lightweight and comes in loads of colours now. Remember that any bag you bring needs to be under A4 in size (no backpacks), and they will be searched prior to entry. Shorts Even if the weather's not baking hot, we're still talking summer here, and at Heaton Park almost all of the women were wearing shorts rather than jeans or trousers; paired with a band T-shirt, I think it gives a rock 'n' roll, festival look. If you're planning on sitting on anyone's shoulders, they're far more practical than a skirt. Go for a pair of denim cut-offs like these classic Levi's 501s, from £42, or this black pair from Nobody's Child, now better than half price at £22, and still available in all sizes. A bucket hat If you're going to wear any sort of headwear, make it a bucket hat, in keeping with the band's famous 90s style – so many men and women were wearing them at Heaton Park. If you want to buy a non-Oasis one that you'll get more wear out of, I loved this grey leopard print Adidas one my friend was wearing (£30). It's currently only available in one size though, so if you want more options, ASOS is a great place to look. This Adidas olive-coloured one is £23, while this £8 cream one is a great bargain option is you know you're not going to wear it much after the event. How to buy Oasis tickets Viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused. While they operate in a grey area, the resale websites including viagogo, StubHub and Vivid Seats have the biggest collection of tickets available right now. And these begin at prices including £350 and £400. These websites give fans the chance to buy tickets up to the day of the concert in question. And ticket-buyers are protected by each website's guarantee, meaning they are promised either entry to the event with their ticket, or their money back. No arrests required. Here's the links: Alternatively, the official retailers, Ticketmaster, Seat Unique and Twickets, are the only legitimate ways to buy tickets at this point in the tour. However, Ticketmaster and Twickets have not had any tickets come through for weeks. With that said, Seat Unique still has VIP and hospitality tickets available right now. These tickets come complete with complimentary food, drinks, early access, after parties, and more. Here's all the links fans need:

Oasis fans just realising why Noel Gallagher always has straw in mouth before gigs

Noel Gallagher's straw has confused Oasis fans, with the songwriter chewing on a blue and white straw in the lead-up to gigs across the country. Fans have since figured out the reason Oasis fans were left wondering why songwriter Noel Gallagher has been spotted chewing on straws in the lead-up to gigs. He and Liam Gallagher reunited for their first shows together in 16 years, with Oasis back on stage for a series of sold-out shows. But a strange detail has come to light that fans are only just figuring out. ‌ Noel, the 58-year-old songwriter behind hits like Don't Look Back in Anger and Wonderwall, has been spotted in public chewing on a blue and white striped straw. Members of the public have since worked out why he keeps doing it. ‌ ‌ A post to X collected images of Gallagher chewing on the drinking utensil, with fans asking why he is "chewing on that all day long". Listeners appear to have figured out why Noel is continually spotted with the straw, and it seems to be having an effect on his live performances. Fans believe the straw is a "vocal straw", with Gallagher chewing on it as a way to relax his vocal cords in the lead-up to performances with brother Liam, 52. One user claimed: "It relaxes vocal cords." Another added: "Train and rest and control the vocal cords and breathing technique by blowing inside." ‌ And it appears the fans were right. The Manchester-native revealed he was advised to prepare his voice for gigs with a straw warm-up by a doctor, after experiencing issues on his tour with U2 in 2019. On Matt Morgan's Funny How? podcast, he explained: "He gave me his paper straw and said, 'Half an hour before you go on, in your room, put some music on and put this straw in your mouth and just hum along to whatever comes on and your vocal cords will warm up'. "I was a bit sceptical, but it really does work. Usually, it would take me a couple of tunes to get into it and now I'm straight into it, straight off the bat." Noel added he now carries them around "everywhere". ‌ Fans have picked up on a series of other subtle details during the Oasis Live '25 tour, with some suggesting Noel's guitar playing is getting better and better. The tour, which kicked off in Cardiff on July 4, has seen the band also play a series of dates in their hometown of Manchester. Performances in London, Edinburgh, and Dublin are set to follow. But fans were pleased to see Noel not just training his vocal cords for the show but offering career-best work on the guitar. Fans noted he was sounding relaxed and "getting better every night" of the tour. ‌ A fan pointed out that Noel's musical skills appear to be sharpening with every show. "Noel's guitar playing is getting better every night," the fan said, clearly impressed by the older Gallagher brother. "After seeing Anais' [Noel's daughter] Instagram story of her dad playing the Champagne Supernova solo last night, I couldn't help but notice how Noel is seemingly getting better. "Makes a lot of sense, with how little lead guitar he had done since (even before) Oasis originally split up. He definitely seemed a bit out of his element playing solos again, especially at Cardiff night one (makes sense). Other fans have since agreed, observing that the High Flying Birds frontman appears to have become much more at ease onstage since Oasis' first gig. One admirer commented: "It's only been three shows and he already seems more confident than the first night in Cardiff." Another added: "The only time I've ever seen Noel look nervous and overwhelmed was on the first night of the reunion."

Oasis fans go wild as Gallagher brothers are seen in their FIRST backstage photo together after Liam's 'new measure to avoid feuding with brother Noel was revealed'

Oasis fans were sent into a spin as the very first backstage snap of the Gallagher brothers together on tour was revealed. Liam, 52, and Noel, 58, are reportedly ' kept apart' in 'military style operation' when not on stage. But a picture which surfaced on Reddit on Monday suggests that may not be the case. The brothers were seen backstage at one of their epic reunion gigs with two young fans, and both Liam and Noel looked relatively happy to be there. Posing with two of their young fans, Liam was seen cheering and punching the air while Noel adopted a more muted expression. Fans went wild over the snap, the first one seen of the pair together off-stage, with some even asking if it was photoshopped. They commented: '2 years ago I probably would have said this was photoshopped. I just did not think this would happen,'; 'Never thought I'd see a picture of Noel and Liam where they are more excited than anyone else in it. Good news- things on tour are going well,'; 'Those lucky lads, im happy they met their heroes,'; 'Why do they still pose the same way it's adorable 'A year ago, someone would have called this AI.' Liam and Noel's mum Peggy is reportedly keeping her once feuding sons in check amid their Oasis reunion tour, it was recently revealed. The pair are reportedly kept apart, but now their beloved mother, 81, is also on hand to help avoid a bust up. The warring siblings' fractious relationship came to a head in 2009, after a backstage fight in Paris led to Noel leaving the iconic Britpop band and they have been embroiled in a very public feud ever since. But Liam is said to be 'loving' spending time with his mum, to whom he is very close, and her presence is helping him 'keep his head down' and stay in the 'best mindset'. Fans went wild over the snap, the first one seen of the pair together off-stage, with some even asking if it was photoshopped Proud Peggy is also reportedly ecstatic ahead of all her sons on stage at Wembley next week, with eldest Paul, 59, performing a DJ set ahead of the main show. A source told The Sun: 'Liam is incredibly close to Peggy and has loved spending time with her during the tour. [She] has always stayed out of their disagreements and just wants the best for her sons.' 'Liam has been keeping his head down and concentrating on the tour. His main priority is staying in the best mindset possible.' MailOnline contacted Oasis' reps for comment at the time. But despite managing to put their difference aside to get back on stage, they have reportedly required separate dressing rooms and transport to avoid a clash and resulting 'PR and financial nightmare'. A source told The Mirror: 'They will not be in each other's pockets and effectively be separate entities that come together for necessary promotional work and the gigs. Other than that they will be apart for much of this reunion. 'Rehearsals will be the first time that they will be together for a significant amount of time working again. The atmosphere is sure to be electric, but also a little edgy.' In 2019, Peggy told her youngest son Liam that he was going to bury the hatchet with his brother the following year, firmly declaring: 'And that's it.' Since Oasis' split in 2009, Peggy is said to have continually urged her sons to put aside their differences - telling Noel and Liam that putting an end to their feud would have been the 'best 80th birthday present'. Earlier this month Liam and Noel's estranged father hit out at his sons by saying they 'don't know f***ing music'. Irish-born Thomas Augustin Gallagher hasn't seen the Oasis duo for years, who've never forgiven him for how they treated their mother when they were boys. Since the duo reunited a video has come to light of Thomas - who goes by Tommy - dismissing his sons' illustrious career. In the 2018 video, TikToker Jack Burke was filming in Manchester when Tommy walked past and intervened, saying: 'Have you heard of the band Oasis? I'm their father. Noel and Liam Gallagher.' When Jack asked for his name, he said: 'Thomas Augustus Gallagher' - pulling his passport out of his pocket to show to Jack.
