
CM Devendra Fadnavis flags off trial run of Mumbai Metro Line 9 from Dahisar to Kashigaon
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Wednesday flagged off the trial run and technical inspection of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9 between Dahisar East and Kashigaon.
This Red Line 9 corridor is a part of a larger initiative to connect Mira-Bhayander with the rest of Mumbai through efficient Metro connectivity.
Along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Fadnavis also inspected the newly built elevated road.
The 13.5-kilometre Metro Line 9 is being constructed in two phases by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), and the Phase 1 section covers four stations — Dahisar, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon.
'The technical testing of the Maha Mumbai Metro Line 9 was conducted today. This line will be extremely helpful for the people of Mira-Bhayandar as well as those who go to Mumbai for work. Our goal is to provide smooth connectivity throughout the region,' said Fadnavis after the inspection.
He also pointed out that it was a 'first-of-its-kind' innovation within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). 'For the first time in the MMR, a double-decker bridge has been built, carrying both Metro and a flyover on one pillar. This structural innovation will cut down traffic congestion greatly,' he added.
Red Line 9 is an extension of Metro Line 7 — Andheri East to Dahisar East — and once operational, will be connected with Metro Line 2A — Dahisar to D N Nagar, thus providing a direct Metro connectivity from Mira-Bhayandar to Andheri. The second phase will connect the service to Bhayandar West, ending at the Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium station.
According to MMRDA officials, trial runs will continue in the weeks ahead with a detailed technical review to be carried out over this period before opening the phase for the public. Safety systems, signalling, performance of rolling stocks, and other operational parameters would be tested intensively before making the route operational.
Even though the line was originally to be commissioned fully by October 2024, construction delays have pushed the schedule. However, CM Fadnavis mentioned that the state is now accelerating work on all Metro projects. 'We are targeting finishing all the work related to Metro in MMR by 2027,' he further said.

‘RWAs, individuals can prune trees in emergency situations'
New Delhi: Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared a standard operating procedure allowing individuals, RWAs, and land-owning agencies to prune or fell trees in "emergency situations" under Section 8 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994 (DPTA). Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sirsa clarified that while Section 8 of the DPTA generally prohibits the felling, removal, or disposal of trees without prior permission from the Tree Officer, it includes provisions for emergency situations where a tree poses an immediate threat to life, property, or traffic. In such cases, individuals or responsible agencies may take action after they report it to the Tree Officer within 24 hours. The forest dept has issued guidelines outlining circumstances that may warrant immediate pruning or removal. These include cases where trees are obstructing roads, bridges, drains, or sewer lines; damaging buildings or heritage structures; interfering with Metro or Railway infrastructure; or where trees are dried, dead, or leaning precariously, posing a risk of falling. In such instances, the concerned party must upload a report on the DPTA e-Forest portal within 24 hours, which must include photos from at least three angles, site geo-coordinates, justification for the action, and post-action images. These will be treated as valid compliance under the Act. Sirsa warned that any misuse under the emergency clause would attract strict legal action.

New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced the completion of the Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg and stated that it was a historic and emotional moment. In a post on social media X, the CM wrote that the project was not just a road but a strong step towards a brighter future. 'A truly historic and emotional moment - the dream of a 'Samruddha' Maharashtra has come true! 'Hinduhrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg' is now complete --it's not just a road, but a strong step towards a brighter future. This was only possible because of the love and support of the people of Maharashtra!' the post read. On June 5, the CM had stated that the project would play an essential role in the development of the state and the highway would be a corridor of prosperity of the state. This highway will be connected to Vadhan Port shortly. Chief Minister Fadnavis said that land has been acquired for the Samruddhi Highway in record time. Due to this route, 24 districts of the state, including Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra, have been connected to JNPT port; now, this highway will be connected to Vadhan port. Rs 55 thousand 335 crore has been spent on this 701 km long highway. According to an official release, the 76-kilometre route of the Samruddhi Highway passes through Nashik and Thane districts. The Sahyadri mountain range in this area has made it a very difficult route for the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation to overcome this engineering challenge. The tunnel near Igatpuri is eight kilometres long, the longest in the state, and the widest in the country. The Forest Department has decided to plant trees on the Palkhi route along the Samruddhi Highway. One thousand farm ponds have been created due to this highway. Along with this, water recharge arrangements have been made every 500 meters. (ANI)
