Tehran: John Abraham's Much-Delayed Film Skips Theatres, Heads To OTT; Disappointed Fans React
John Abraham's Tehran was slated for release in 2023. However, the film is finally set to release after a long haul. The actor, who generally prefers a theatre release for his films, surprised fans by announcing a direct OTT release for his film. While a section of fans shared their excitement, others expressed their disappointment at the OTT release of John's film. The film also stars Manushi Chhillar.
John Abraham's Tehran has been in the making for a while now. The film was initially set for release in 2023; however, it appears that the film will finally release this year. On July 31, the makers of Tehran revealed that John's upcoming geopolitical action-thriller will premiere on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium during the Independence Day week.

John Abraham fans took to the comment section and expressed their displeasure at Tehran's OTT release. They wrote, 'OTT Release", 'Action Abraham is Back", 'Kyun bhai . Aap toh kehte the ki Mai direct OTT release kabhi Nahi karunga", 'Why not releasing in theater", 'Why ott ???", 'Need it in big screen", 'Release in Cinema", 'This should be released in the theatres".
A Bollywood Hungama report had previously revealed the reason behind opting for OTT release for Tehran. It said, 'Tehran has a run time of less than two hours and moreover, it's not just a Hindi language film. To maintain authenticity, certain dialogues are also in Farsi and English. Hence, the makers realised that it would suit the OTT medium more." The makers are yet to confirm the same.
Interestingly, John Abraham recently spoke about why he is content staying on the big screen for now, with no interest in diving into the world of web series. He told Hindustan Times, 'To do OTT, you need a very big office setup. You need a lot of people working towards something, where you don't even own the IP of. You make a commission from the series and that goes into your overheads. Anybody who's doing OTT today, they'll tell you absolutely the same thing. So, I don't see sense in breaking sweat on doing these series."
That said, he's open to the idea, badmitting that if a compelling series comes his way and sparks his interest as a producer, he wouldn't hesitate to get on board. 'I would love to because I want to tell that story, not because I want to make a business model out of it. So, that's one reason why I'm not doing this as a producer yet."
When asked if he would ever act in OTT, the actor responds, 'Never say never, but at this point of time, I do not want to come on OTT as an actor for a series or an original film. I want to come on the big screen. In my head, I believe I was made for the big screen. I have a lot of respect for OTT channels because most of the content, at least internationally, and so much of the Indian content like Paatal Lok is outstanding. I have so much of respect for the space, but I don't see myself yet in it."
What is John Abraham's Tehran about?
Tehran is a high-stakes Hindi action-thriller headlined by John Abraham and Manushi Chhillar. Inspired by true events and set against the backdrop of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war, the film delves into the shifting sands of international politics. It is directed by Arun Gopalan and backed by producers Dinesh Vijan, Sandeep Leyzell, and Shobhna Yadav, with a screenplay penned by Ritesh Shah and Ashish Prakash Verma.

(Also read: Son of Sardaar 2 vs Dhadak 2 box office report card: Which sequel fared better over the weekend?) Dhadak 2 box office collection day 4: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri shared screen space for the first time in the film. Dhadak 2 box office update As per the latest update on Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 collected ₹1.04 crore on its fourth day of release (as per early estimates), its lowest so far. A dip in collection on Monday is expected, but that has hurt the momentum of the film, especially given that the film has not shown considerable growth during the weekend. Its highest single-day collections were recorded on Sunday, with ₹ 4.15 crore. The overall collection now stands at ₹ 12.44 crore. Dhadak 2 had an overall 12.75% Hindi Occupancy on Monday. Dhadak 2 is facing stiff competition from multiple releases, including Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2, animation epic Mahavatar Narsimha, and the blockbuster Saiyaara. About Dhadak 2 Dhadak 2 is a standalone sequel to the 2018 Dhadak. However, it is not connected to the original narrative or characters. It tells the tale of a law student who falls for his classmate, only for her family to harass him due to caste differences. It is produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures. Dhadak 2 was initially slated to hit the big screen in November 2024, but it experienced several delays following the reported hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). These hurdles were resolved only recently after the makers agreed to significant cuts and modifications to the film.

This 2-hour 20-minute drama-thriller will leave you speechless, is trending on OTT, has bone-chilling climax, with 8.9 rating of IMDb, movie name is…
There's drama out there that quietly unsettles you from the very first scene. It doesn't yell for attention. Instead, it draws you into a sense of unease, as if a hidden puzzle is just beneath the surface. By the time the credits roll, after about 2 hours and 20 minutes, you realize it's not just another thriller. The ending stays with you, a twist so unexpected that it reframes everything you thought you'd seen. Which film is this? Here we are talking about DNA, a 2025 Tamil-language investigative drama‑thriller directed by Nelson Venkatesan. The story centers on a couple who believe their newborn child has been swapped shortly after birth. As the wife grows increasingly certain something is wrong, the husband starts pursuing the truth, search that becomes the spine of the film, revealing a grim conspiracy far larger than a mere hospital error. What is the storyline? The central conflict plays out with Atharvaa Murali as Anand, man haunted by his past, and Nimisha Sajayan as Divya, a woman living with borderline personality disorder who insists her child isn't theirs. Their marriage and the emotional rabbit hole they fall into add weight to the mystery unfolding around them. Supportive performances by Ramesh Thilak, Balaji Sakthivel, Viji Chandrasekar, Chetan, Riythvika KP, and others bring dimension to the investigation. How was the reception of DNA? When it reached theaters on June 20, 2025, DNA drew praise for its tightly-woven narrative, technical polish, and the way it balanced emotional urgency with suspenseful pacing. Critics gave it between 3 to 3.5 out of 5 stars, noting that although it faced some clichés and unnecessary detours (like fabricated songs or melodramatic moments), it remained gripping enough to sit through its length without losing momentum. More about DNA Now, for streaming: DNA is available to watch on JioHotstar (also known as Disney+ Hotstar), beginning July 19, 2025, in five languages—Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, complete with subtitles. It's also accessible through OTTplay Premium, widening its reach across the country. Overall, DNA offers more than just thrills. It thoughtfully explores parenthood, mental health, and corruption behind medical institutions.
