Police: Outdated CCTV at Dr Mahathir's grandson's home offered little help; nearby footage now under review in RM1.8m burglary
Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the CCTV system at the residence itself was of limited use as it only retains footage for 24 hours, making it difficult to aid in the ongoing investigation.
'The CCTV system at the house was installed in the 1990s and has limited storage capacity,' he told a press conference today.
'The incident is believed to have occurred more than 24 hours after the police report was made by the owner of the house, which meant the footage had already been overwritten,' he told a press conference here today.
According to Mohamed Usuf, the house is an old house that is rarely visited by Dr Mahathir's grandchildren.
'So far, the police have recorded statements from three individuals, namely Dr Mahathir's grandson, a security guard and a maid. The police are also analysing the evidence received, including fingerprints, and this may take some time,' he said.
According to reports, the residence belonging to the former Prime Minister's grandson was broken into, resulting in the victim losing RM1.8 million worth of jewellery.
It is understood that the incident was discovered by the maid at 3pm last Wednesday after she found the gate at the back of the house had been cut and her employer's room was ransacked.
When asked about the case involving singer Shila Amzah, who claimed to have been verbally attacked by another singer, he said the police would record statements from two more witnesses to complete the investigation paper. — Bernama

Adoptive parents remanded over baby's death in Cheras
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have obtained a seven-day remand order on the adoptive parents of a seven-month-old baby girl who died after being found unconscious with bruises and a bluish complexion at Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras. Acting City police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the two suspects have been remanded until Aug 6. "Investigations revealed the baby's birth mother was believed to be from Indonesia," he said when contacted today. He added that the baby was believed to have been with the adoptive parents since June 18. "According to the suspects, the deceased was handed over to them prior to her returning to Indonesia," Usuf said. "We are now awaiting the post-mortem report to shed more light on how the baby died." He said the Kuala Lumpur Police's Criminal Investigation Department's Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) was investigating the case. It was reported earlier today that the baby girl died after being found unconscious in the living room at a condominium in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Cheras, last night. Police confirmed receiving a report from a man at 9.34pm stating that his adopted daughter had been found unconscious at their residence for unknown reasons. Upon arriving at the residence, police found the infant lying in the living room, with visible bruising and bluish skin. Following the discovery, an investigation paper was opened under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse. The two suspects, the adoptive parents, aged 38 and 50, were arrested to assist in the investigation.

KOTA KINABALU, July 31 — Istana Seri Kinabalu has strongly denied viral social media allegations claiming that a member of the family of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman is linked to the recent death of a Form One student at a school in Papar. In an official statement issued to Bernama today, the palace described the allegations as baseless, irresponsible, and defamatory, saying they threaten to tarnish the reputation of Tun Musa's family. It also called on the public not to spread unverified or slanderous information, and reminded them that disseminating false content is an offence under existing laws, including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Policeman stabbed during crime patrol at Pudu market, suspect arrested
KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman was seriously injured after being stabbed while conducting a routine crime prevention patrol at the Pudu market area this afternoon. Acting City police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the incident occurred at about 12.55pm when the victim, along with four other officers, was inspecting a suspect at Jalan Yew, Pudu. "The suspect suddenly attacked the officer with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing the scene," he said in a statement today. He added that the wounded officer was immediately rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM for emergency treatment. "Acting swiftly on the information received, police managed to apprehend the suspect shortly after the incident," Usuf said. "The suspect, a 56-year-old man, was detained to assist with further investigation." A subsequent search revealed a knife measuring approximately 21.5cm and three transparent plastic packets containing yellowish powder and chunks, suspected to be drugs, believed to be linked to the incident. Usuf said the case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 186 of the Penal Code. Section 307 covers attempted murder, while Section 186 pertains to obstructing a public servant from carrying out duties. "The suspect will be remanded beginning Aug 1 to assist further investigations," he said. "We also urge members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward immediately."
