Samantha Armytage's estranged husband Richard Lavender reportedly offered spot on revamped Farmer Wants a Wife
Samantha Armytage's ex-employer Channel 7 is reportedly 'determined' to lock in her estranged husband Richard Lavender for a revamp of Farmer Wants a Wife.
Armytage, 48, announced her separation from Lavender, 61, in December just weeks before their fourth wedding anniversary.
The split came months after Armytage's equally shocking professional separation from Seven in favour of a plum new gig hosting The Golden Bachelor on rival Channel 9.
The Golden Bachelor is a new twist on the popular Bachelor dating franchise and will see a group of older Australians competing for the hearts of Barry 'Bear' Myrden, a widower in his 50s from Manly in Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Seven is reportedly planning to revamp the 2026 season of Farmer Wants a Wife Australia – which Armytage previously hosted – to feature older farmers and take on the Golden Bachelor head on.
According to a Seven production source who spoke to New Idea magazine on Monday, Armytage's estranged husband is at the top of the casting list.
'Production doesn't want the format becoming stale, and they're desperate to give the show a fresh new look and format in a bid to rival its growing competitors,' the source said.
'Channel Seven is determined to convince former Farmer host Samantha Armytage's ex-husband Richard Lavender to front a Golden Farmer series.'
The source claimed that Armytage would likely see the move as an insult, especially after Lavender shunned the spotlight throughout his marriage to the ex-Sunrise host.
'Sam wouldn't love the idea of Richard being involved in Farmer, in fact she would probably see it as a bit of an insult, but she is the one that had him pose for magazine covers and put his name in the spotlight, he's of interest because of his high profile marriage and separation to Sam,' the source said.
The split shocked some industry insiders, especially after Armytage herself told Woman's Day that she quit her role hosting breakfast television show Sunrise to live at Lavender's 40-hectare estate in New South Wales' Southern Highlands.
Following the break up, sources told Daily Mail Australia that a contributing factor to the split was allegedly tension between Lavender's adult children and Armytage.
It is understood the TV star has left the countryside and decamped back to Sydney's eastern suburbs amid her divorce.

Neale Daniher shares rare insight into lowest point of career
AFL icon and Australian of the Year Neale Daniher has shared rare insight into the lowest point of his career and the personal news that got him 'out of his funk'. Daniher is this week's guest on a special episode of Unfiltered with Hamish McLachlan. The interview was conducted over several weeks with McLachlan and Daniher exchanging text messages and Daniher would answer using his eye-gaze machine, which makes his voice sound like it used to. Daniher has been battling motor neurone disease since 2013, but has never lost his infectious enthusiasm and determination. The 64-year-old was crowned the 2025 Australian of the Year in recognition of his fundraising for the incurable disease. Much has been said about Daniher's incredible fight against the disease, but not much is spoken about his career on the field. Watch Neale Daniher on Unfiltered. Credit: Channel 7 Daniher played 66 games in three years for Essendon between 1979 and 1981, but injuries restricted to him just 16 more before he retired. After missing the 1982, '83 and '84 seasons following multiple knee injuries, Daniher returned to the field in 1985. Essendon were the reigning premiers and Daniher had dreams of lifting the premiership cup that year. Daniher worked his way back into the senior team, playing five senior games before disaster struck in a rare mid-week game. Essendon played Norwood in Adelaide in the 1985 AFC Night Series, with the game taking place just three days after the Bombers' clash against Fitzroy. 'Footy gives you great highs and tragic lows, that's for sure. The lowest I felt as a player would have been in 1985,' Daniher said. 'I was making another comeback after two ACL knee injuries and the Bombers were the reigning premiers. And I just made my way back into the team. 'We had a mid-season competition going on at the time involving interstate teams. I was asked to back up and play in Adelaide. In retrospect, that was a dumb idea. I wasn't ready to play three games in seven days. 'Anyway, during the second quarter, I got caught in a pack, landed awkwardly and did my knee again. This time it was my good knee so I was laying on a cold floor with ice on my knee in foreign rooms on my own as the sounds of the game continued without me. 'I knew my playing career was done at the elite level and my crack at September and maybe a flag was over.' Daniher added that the impending birth of his first child helped him get out of the injury heartbreak. 'What broke me out of the funk was that I had married Jan earlier that year, not much later we received news that we would have our first child, Lauren. That definitely helped me realise that life was more than the number on my back,' he added. Daniher would return to the field in 1989, playing another four games before adding another seven in 1990. Unfiltered with Hamish McLachlan featuring football legend and FIGHTMND Founder, Neale Daniher 9.30pm straight after The Front Bar on Seven and 7plus.

Mass exodus at Channel 7 as three high-profile reporters defect to Network 10
The bloodbath continues at Channel 7 with not one, not two, but three of the station's reporters defecting to Network 10. Senior 7News Sydney reporter Bill Hogan, former foreign correspondent Amelia Brace, and Denham Hitchcock, a reporter and producer for the channel's flagship current affairs program Spotlight, have all jumped ship, according to The Australian. The trio will reportedly be working on a new, long-form investigative offering established by 10's head of broadcast news Martin White. The Australian reports that Brace and Hitchcock began their new roles on Monday after leaving Seven's Sydney offices 'within hours of quitting,' while Hogan is set to follow after working out a further three weeks notice. Network 10, which was bought by Paramount in 2017, is investing in an investigative unit to pursue long-form stories as part of its news offering. It's believed the new hires will be working on a program to rival the likes of the ABC's Four Corners, Nine's 60 Minutes, and Seven's Spotlight. Brace, who will reportedly be pocketing $270,000 for the role - a $50,000 increase on her salary at Seven, is said to have told colleagues on Friday, 'It feels off to not have an official 'last day' to say goodbye, but it's best for me to just fade away for now.' 'Stand up for yourselves, and each other … and think of me every time you have to find a f**king case study.' Meanwhile Hitchcock had only recently returned to Spotlight after leaving the program in 2023 for life on a boat with his family. He was part of the original team who established Spotlight in 2019 and rejoined again in February this year after returning to terra ferma. In a statement shared on social media, Hitchcock said he's excited to be joining the network his own father used to work for and hopes to help with 10's 'plans for the future'. 'Well here we go. I've switched channels,' he said on Monday, 'But also in a way - I've come full circle. I grew up watching my father on Channel 10 News every night. 'I had a bunk bed with eyewitness news stickers all over it - and can still sing the theme song.' The triple defection comes less than a month after the head of Seven's news division Anthony De Ceglie, left after just 13 months in the job. De Ceglie, who Seven chairman and AFL diehard Kerry Stokes had taken under his wing, left his position to take up the job the inaugural CEO of new rugby league team the Perth Bears. He reportedly told the newsroom the position was 'too good an opportunity to pass up,' and that he 'couldn't wait to build a sports team in his home state from the ground up'. His departure from Seven follows a series of failed news experiments in 2024, notably the introduction of a weekly satire spot with comedian Mark Humphries and an astrology segment. Staff morale also took a hit as experienced reporters and newsreaders were shed to cut costs.

Kane Cornes steps away mid-season amid controversies
Divisive footy commentator Kane Cornes has taken a step back from his overloaded schedule in the wake of several controversies. Cornes was nowhere to be seen on Sunday night for his usual commitments with Channel 7 and the AFL. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. He was also replaced by Sam Edmund who took over the hosting duties for Cornes' SEN radio slot on Monday morning. CODE Sports first reported the news of Cornes' mid-season break which comes after the 42-year-old found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. In April, the Channel 7 protagonist was black-listed by North Melbourne in an extraordinary move. The move came after North Melbourne accused Cornes of 'bullying behaviour' and 'vindictive attacks' on the club and its players. Two weeks ago he was back in the spotlight after he was involved in a fiery confrontation with Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge. Despite not appearing on his regular programming, Channel 7 have said the time away is nothing out of the ordinary for their talent and he'll be back behind the microphone for Round 13. 'All of our talent take time off throughout the AFL season. Just like the players have a bye round, we make sure our team gets a break too,' O'Keeffe said 'This is Kane's scheduled leave, and he'll be back on deck for Thursday Night Footy this week. 'Dale Thomas will step into the Agenda Setters chair tonight, alongside Caroline Wilson, Craig Hutchison and Nick Riewoldt. Tomorrow night, Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell joins the panel alongside Luke Hodge, Craig Hutchison and Caroline Wilson.' Cornes made the blockbuster switch to join Channel 7 after years behind the microphone at Channel 9. 'It was an opportunity that I was thrilled to have a listen to. It was too good to pass up,' Cornes said on SEN after the move was announced in August last year. 'It's been weighing on me a little bit with Channel 9 because they've been so amazing and it's such a great place to work. 'I get along with everyone so well there and I think the shows we do there are excellent. 'To tell everyone as I did (on Monday) was a weight off the chest and I'll move on to a place that I'm really excited to join.'
