Krysten Ritter to Return as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Yahoo23-05-2025

After many rumours, it appears Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as the hard-hitting, cynical private investigator Jessica Jones. She will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again. The news comes via Variety and its reporting from Disney's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday, where Ritter appeared alongside Charlie Cox, the star of the highly anticipated series.
While it was expected, the move helps bridge the Netflix Marvel series with the current Marvel Cinematic Universe, which until now has felt very disconnected. Krysten Ritter, who first embodied the super-powered detective in the acclaimed Netflix series Jessica Jones starting in 2015, expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the character.
'It's so great to be back, returning to Jessica after three seasons and The Defenders and now joining the MCU,' Ritter said during the presentation. 'I'm so excited to bring back this iconic character, and without giving too much away, there is much more in store for Jessica Jones. This is going to be an incredible season!'
Ritter's portrayal of Jones was one of the most iconic performances among the Netflix Marvel series, perfectly capturing the essence of a former superhero turned private investigator after a traumatic past. Jessica Jones was a cornerstone of Marvel's original slate of interconnected Netflix series, which also included Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Punisher, culminating in the somewhat disappointing team-up miniseries The Defenders. These shows concluded their runs on Netflix by 2019, as Disney prepared to launch its own streaming service, Disney+, the new home for Marvel Cinematic Universe content.
It's great to see these characters return—even slowly—as Disney gradually reintroduces the beloved figures, with Daredevil: Born Again spearheading this new chapter. The first season, starring Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, debuted to mixed reviews on Disney+, with fans excited by the return, even if the season felt more like a taste of what was to come. Jon Bernthal is also confirmed to return as Frank Castle/The Punisher in the series, and work on the second season, which will feature Ritter's Jessica Jones, is already underway.

‘Lilo & Stitch' dominates box office to become second-highest grossing film of 2025

'Lilo & Stich' and 'Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning' dominated the box office charts again after fueling a record-breaking Memorial Day weekend. Theaters in the US and Canada had several new films to offer this weekend as well, including Sony's family friendly 'Karate Kid: Legends' and the A24 horror movie 'Bring Her Back. ' According to studio estimates Sunday, it added up to a robust $149 million post-holiday weekend that's up over 120% from the same timeframe last year. 3 A scene from Disney's live-action 'Lilo & Stitch' movie. Disney Disney's live-action hybrid 'Lilo & Stitch' took first place again with $63 million from 4,410 locations in North America. It was enough to pass 'Sinners' to become the second-highest grossing movie of the year with $280.1 million in domestic ticket sales. Globally, its running total is $610.8 million. 'Sinners,' meanwhile, is still going strong in its seventh weekend with another $5.2 million, bumping it to $267.1 million domestically and $350.1 million globally. The eighth 'Mission: Impossible' movie also repeated in second place, with $27.3 million from 3,861 locations. As with 'Lilo & Stitch,' that's down 57% from its opening. With $122.6 million in domestic tickets sold, it's performing in line with the two previous installments. But with a reported production budget of $400 million, profitability is a ways off. Internationally, it added $76.1 million (including $25.2 million from China where it just opened), bringing its global total to $353.8 million. 'This is the year of longterm playability,' said Paul Dergarabedian, Comscore's senior media analyst. 'The currency of word of mouth and the strong hold is more important than opening weekend dollars.' 3 Tom Cruise in a scene from 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.' Paramount Pictures via AP Leading the newcomers was Sony's 'Karate Kid: Legends,' with an estimated $21 million from 3,809 locations. The movie brings Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio together to train a new kid, the kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang). Chan starred in a 2010 reboot of the 1984 original, while Macchio has found a new generation of fans in the series 'Cobra Kai,' which just concluded a six-season run. Reviews might have been mixed, but opening weekend audiences gave the PG-13 rated film a strong A- CinemaScore and 4.5 stars on PostTrak. It also only cost a reported $45 million to produce and has several weeks until a new family-friendly film arrives. 'Karate Kid: Legends' opened earlier internationally and has a worldwide total of $47 million. Fourth place went 'Final Destination: Bloodlines,' which earned $10.8 million in its third weekend. The movie is the highest-grossing in the franchise, not accounting for inflation, with $229.3 million globally. The weekend's other big newcomer, 'Bring Her Back' rounded out the top five with $7.1 million from 2,449 screens. 3 Ralph Macchio, Ben Wang and Jackie Chan in a scene from 'Karate Kid: Legends.' ©Columbia Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection Starring Sally Hawkins as a foster mother with some disturbing plans, the film is the sophomore feature of twin filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who made the 2023 horror breakout 'Talk to Me.' It earned a rare-for-horror B+ CinemaScore and is essentially the only new film in the genre until '28 Years Later' opens on June 20. A new Wes Anderson movie, 'The Phoenician Scheme,' also debuted in New York and Los Angeles this weekend, where it made $270,000. It expands nationwide next weekend. The summer box office forecast remains promising, though there's a long way to go to get to the $4 billion target (a pre-pandemic norm that only the 'Barbenheimer' summer has surpassed). The month of May is expected to close out with $973 million – up 75% from May 2024, according to data from Comscore. ‘Squid Game' Teases a Final Showdown in Full Season 3 Trailer

The Squid Games are just getting started. In the full trailer for the third and final season of Netflix's hit series, protagonist Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is back in the games after the failed rebellion that ended season two. This time, the stakes are raised and the competition in the very deadly games is even more deadly. More from The Hollywood Reporter 'Squid Game' Star Lee Jung-jae Is Happy With How Series Ends But Is "Very Nervous" For Fan Reaction Netflix's 'Wednesday' Releases First Six Minutes of Season 2, Officially Confirms Lady Gaga Guest Role 'Stranger Things' Premiere Dates Revealed for "Blockbuster" Final Season The season three trailer, released Saturday at Netflix's Tudum fan event, shows Gi-hun questioning the game's powers: 'Why didn't you kill me? Why did you keep me alive? Why did you let me live?' he screams. It also shows players making their way through a disorienting maze and playing a deadly game of jump rope before Gi-hun comes face to face with the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). Watch it below. Squid Game season three marks the final season of Netflix's global sensation created by Hwang Dong-hyuk. Viewers go back into the games with Gi-hun, Player 456, on June 27 when all episodes drop on Netflix. An episode count has not yet been announced, though six has been reported. Season two had ended on the devastating cliffhanger of the games being incomplete and Gi-hun and his subordinates once again being held captive. After winning the Squid Games in season one, Gi-hun was determined to dismantle them from the inside. The seven-episode second season explored Gi-hun's effort to do so, culminating in a finale where he found himself thwarted by Front Man, the enigmatic game leader played by Lee Byung-hun who was revealed to the audience — but not yet to Gi-hun — to be Player 001. Front Man executed Gi-hun's best friend, Player 290 Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), as a warning about the consequences of his rebellion. New imagery around season three had previously revealed two new games — a massive gumball machine dispensing red and blue balls (representing the Xs and Os vote that will determine their fates) and the other, a new twist on the iconic Red Light-Green-Light game. The hope for the final season may lies in the ongoing outside mission to infiltrate the headquarters. Familiar faces return for season three: The Front Man, detective Hwang Jun-ho, and players Myung-gi (Player 333), Dae-ho (Player 388), Hyun-ju (Player 120), Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jun-hee (Player 222), Min-su (Player 125), Nam-gyu (Player 124) and the pink guard No-eul. The third season concludes the story from Hwang, though the creator has shared several ideas about where he could spin off the franchise, which has already spawned reality series Squid Game: The Challenge and Squid Game: The Experience, a touring activation where fans can play games like the multiplayer video game Squid Game: Unleashed. Produced by Firstman Studio, executive producers include Hwang and Kim Ji-yeon. Head here for more on what to expect from season three.
