Tyson Fury's dad John urges son to stay retired following major U-turn
John Fury would prefer to see his son Tyson stay retired following the boxing legend's recent change of heart.
Back in January, Tyson Fury declared his surprising retirement from boxing after suffering consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. Nevertheless, he has since hinted at a possible comeback by sharing numerous videos of himself running and working out in the gym.
This month, Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh confirmed Fury will return to competition. "The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026. We have a rabbit to hunt!" he posted. Fury subsequently revealed that he will face Usyk for a third encounter - with the bout scheduled to take place next April. The 36-year-old took to Instagram and shared a fight poster featuring both himself and the Ukrainian, accompanied by the caption: "April 18, 2026 Wembley Stadium. The trilogy! UK. contact @spencerbrownmrgoldstar for tickets."
Whilst the 'Gypsy King' appears to be preparing for a boxing return, his father wishes his son would remain retired. Speaking to The Stomping Ground, he said: "People want to see the Gypsy King, but I would rather him stay retired. He's done his bit for the boxing world. He still loves his fans and he thanks them all very much for what they've done, but it's only my opinion only I'd like to see him stay retired," reports All Out Fighting.
Fury Sr recognises that fans are eager to witness the Brit return to action, but the 60-year-old remains firm in his stance. "Health, and he's got a family, he's other commitments apart from boxing," he continued. "He's done what he has to do in boxing, as far as I'm concerned, and he's got a lot of young children he wants to be a father to, and he wants to be a healthy father, not somebody that's ended up an imitation or one, you know.
"So it's health before wealth. He's got the wealth, he's got everything else, he just needs to calm down and concentrate on what's important." Regarding his return, Fury informed supporters at a BoxFest event prior to Daniel Dubois ' clash with Usyk that he is anticipating his comeback.
"For sure. I am open to offers at the moment. I am not going to do any comebacks this year. That is a fact. I have been busy. As you can see, I have got Netflix here. I am filming 'At Home With The Furys! Season 2," he said. "And next year, the big 'G K' is going to make a f****** comeback. The takeover! I am going to be 37 in about three weeks so I am going to be the oldest swinger in town. With all these young boys coming up, it is going to be difficult, but I believe I can put on some very good nights still."
As for who he wishes to fight, despite being open to offers, he will not face both Agit Kabayel and Joseph Parker. The two-time heavyweight champion has trained with both men in the past and shares a close bond with Parker. "They are my two brothers," Fury expressed. "They are both lovely guys and they are both future world heavyweight champions. Agit Kabayel and Joseph Parker... he has been a champion before so he knows what it is about. I wish them all the very best in the world and I won't fight either man for any amount of money because some things ain't worth fighting for."
When will Tyson Fury step into the ring next?
Fury is expected to make his comeback next year, despite rumours of a clash with Usyk. Alalshikh is keen to arrange a bout between the 'Gypsy King' and Anthony Joshua. During a recent stint on 'The Boxing Voice,' Alalshikh disclosed that both fighters would need to participate in tune-up fights first before facing each other.
"Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury next year, we are trying to do it and we are thinking about it," he stated. "Why? Because they are both coming off losses. It's to build it up."
Frank Warren, Fury's promoter, recently gave an update on his star client's future and revealed that the Brit has reversed his decision to retire. In a chat with talkSPORT, he shared: "He's been talking about it a little bit. Some calls took place and there's an agreement made, that's all I can tell you at the moment."
The 73-year-old added: "He has retired, up until he said he was coming back. Look, Frank Sinatra retired a lot. Like I've said to you before if that's how [Tyson] feels in the moment, that's how he feels. We'll see what happens, but he feels he wants it fight Usyk again."

Former Lioness goalkeeper details 'doubters' the women had before Euros win
EXCLUSIVE: ITV correspondent Katie Shanahan and Former Euros goalkeeper Carly gave an insight to what it was like just moments after the Lionesses made history once again at the EUROs 2025 The nation's nerves have barely recovered since the Lionesses' thrilling Euro 2025 win – and several members of the Royal Family were swept up in footy-fever too. Watching the England women's team conquer Spain in a nail-biting penalty shootout at the final in Basel, Switzerland, Prince William and Princess Charlotte were snapped covering their faces in despair, before clapping and punching the air in delight. After the brave Lionesses clinched a 3-1 victory from the penalty spot, the dad and daughter duo said in a joint Instagram post, 'What a game! Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe. We couldn't be prouder of the whole team.' Fittingly on such a night, it was the first time Charlotte, 10, had signed her full name on the family's official account. Ahead of the match, she and William, 43, also shared a sweet backstage snap captioned, 'Let's go, Lionesses!', echoing their video message from the team's previous 2022 Euro win. As the historic result sank in, William proudly handed out the medals to both teams, and was seen sharing a joke with young England striker Michelle Agyemang, 19, as well as hugging Chloe Kelly, 27, who coolly scored the winning penalty. William, who is President of the FA and an avid Aston Villa supporter, even got a little help with his medal duties from Charlotte, who looked adorable in a navy and white polka dot dress and white cardigan. Revealing what happened when the TV cameras stopped rolling, she says, 'It was amazing being with them after everyone had left the stadium. There was just me, a few camera crews and all their families. Some of the girls were doing handstands on the pitch, Lucy Bronze was kicking a ball around with her brother's children and Leah Williamson was passing the trophy around all the families. It was just magical.' Katie waved the team off as they left the stadium to party into the night, and adds, 'Everyone was handing around Heineken tinnies. Each player had up to 10 family members by their side, and they were just so happy.' The celebrations lasted until 4am, and she says, 'I'm sure there were some sore heads next morning!' After becoming ITV's official England women's football correspondent in 2023, Katie has got to know many of the Lionesses, including woman-of-the-hour Chloe Kelly. 'She's unbelievably composed and has nerves of steel,' says Katie. 'When I ask her, 'How do you do it?' she plays it down massively, and has told me, 'I train a lot, I practice, I do my penalties and I'm confident in my delivery. Boom.' Last week I asked her if she was wired differently, and I think that was the first time she realised that maybe she is.' Chloe tied the knot with husband Scott Moore in July last year, and Katie says his support keeps her going. 'Her support network is really important. She has her husband and two dogs on her shin pads, which is so sweet.' Having followed the Lionesses for so long, Katie says the girls are true BFFs. 'They get on really well and have such a strong bond. Their performance on the pitch is because of how close they are. They made a home away from home during the tournament, with chess sets, cards and table tennis – everything to make it fun.' Katie believes their dynamic is also thanks to their formidable manager. 'Sarina has brought the group together and they're a massive testament to her. Before games, she gives inspirational talks and just sprinkles all this wisdom and motivation over the team. The one thing I've taken away from it is that the Lionesses truly never give up.' Former Lionesses goalkeeper Carly Telford also recognises the pressure the team were under, telling us, 'Before the Euros there were a lot of doubters out there, but I definitely wasn't one of them. I'm super-happy for them and all the young women and girls who can now aspire to be like them.' Carly, 38, played for the Lionesses from 2007 to 2021, and now works for Chelsea FC as Commercial Player and Relationships Manager. Recalling the intensity of top-flight tournaments, she says, 'It's really hard to describe, especially with social media which we didn't have when I was playing. The girls have learned that the pressure is different when you're at the top of the pile as opposed to when you're chasing success.' She adds, 'We created some incredible, magical moments in this tournament, but also dug in deep, and that's what it's like to be a Lioness.' As the celebrations continue, Carly says many of the players will head on holiday before returning to their clubs. 'My girls at Chelsea have a bit of a break, but it's not even two weeks until they're back to it, bless them.' Carly herself is working with ASDA on a new health campaign, Heart of A Lioness, which saw the supermarket offering free blood pressure tests during the Euros. 'It's so important to keep on top of your heart health, as we don't realise how important it is until something goes wrong. Being able to go to ASDA and access a free blood pressure check is great, especially as this Euros tournament tested everyone's heartrate.' You can say that again, Carly!

Luke Shaw says Man Utd have ‘no stragglers anymore' as he praises Ruben Amorim
Luke Shaw fully supports Ruben Amorim's demanding approach as the Manchester United head coach seeks to transform what the defender admits has at times been a 'toxic' environment. The 30-year-old is the longest-serving player at Old Trafford having joined from Southampton in 2014 for what was at the time a world-record fee for a teenager. Shaw has experienced plenty of down moments among the positives during his time at United, with Amorim the fifth different permanent manager the England international has worked under. The left-back said the whole squad needed to consider whether they were good enough to play for the club after May's Europa League final loss to Tottenham and feels standards have been raised in pre-season. 'It's not hard to see from the outside what it's been like,' Shaw told reporters on their US tour. 'A lot of the time I've been here over the last few years, it's been extremely negative. It can be quite toxic, the environment, it's not healthy at all. 'We need an environment that's healthy, that's positive, that's got good energy and happiness. 'I think when you have all those things, you feel free, and you express yourself more on the pitch.' 'Us as players, we're fully behind him and fully behind his ideas and what he wants to implement in this team. 'We feel like a real team, especially this pre-season. Since I've been back, the group is so together and that's something we need to keep, to make us more of a family and everyone all together and we're all driving in the same direction.' United finished 15th last season and are currently taking part in the Premier League Summer Series in America. Amorim's side beat West Ham 2-1 in New Jersey at the weekend and are taking on Bournemouth at Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday evening local time, before facing Everton in Atlanta on Sunday.
