Norman Reedus eyes his own John Wick spin-off following Ballerina
Norman Reedus wants his own 'John Wick' spin-off movie.
The 56-year-old actor stars in the upcoming action offshoot 'Ballerina' as Daniel Pine, and has now said he would happily revisit the character to explore his mysterious past in his own film.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Reedus said: 'I think his origin story would be awesome.
'How he got to who he is and what made him, what turned him? What made him have this sort of moral compass all of a sudden? And all the things that he went through to get there.'
'The Walking Dead' star added a Daniel Pine spin-off wasn't completely out of the question.
He said: 'I mean, the door's wide open for that sort of story.'
'Ballerina' follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) as she seeks revenge against those who killed her family.
Trained from childhood in the arts of the Ruska Roma, her mission plunges her into a brutal underworld of killers, codes, and consequences.
As well as Reedus and de Armas, 'Ballerina' will see the return of Keanu Reeves' John Wick and Ian McShane's New York Continental head Winston.
While the 'Lovejoy' star is happy to be reprising Winston for 'Ballerina', McShane admitted he was 'furious' his fight scene with de Armas' Eve Macarro was left on the cutting room floor.
The 82-year-old actor told Collider in a joint interview with de Armas: 'We have a long scene together where she comes to visit me at the Continental and tries to fight …
'We don't talk about that. I'm furious. They cut one of my fight scenes.'
Despite his disappointment over the missing action sequence, McShane added there was still 'a fight scene with dialogue' between Winston and Eve.
He continued: 'My scenes are dialogue fight scenes. We have a scene where you [de Armas] try to get information from me, and that's like getting blood out of a stone, as we say, trying to get Winston to give anything away.
'So, in a sense, it's a fight scene with dialogue, which you only accept after you know that I'm on your side.'
After a fifth 'John Wick' movie was confirmed by Lionsgate - with Reeves' set to return as the titular assassin - McShane said he would gladly play Winston again, so long as he's 'still around'.
He said: 'If I'm still around, but they decide to do it, that would be a very nice thing.
'Yeah, I've loved it so far. It's been a great, great 11 years.'
McShane shared that the creative team behind 'John Wick' felt 'sort of like a family', particularly with the likes of director Chad Stahelski being involved from the start.
He continued: 'And as I said, it's sort of like a family because we same director, same photographer, much the same actors with editions down again. But yeah, it's been a good trip so far.'

Len Wiseman would "love" to establish a 'Ballerina' franchise. The 52-year-old director recently helmed the 'John Wick' spin-off movie, and Len has revealed that he'd love to continue working with Ana de Armas, who plays Eve Macarro, a ballerina who becomes an assassin, in the new film. Asked about the character's long-term future, Len told The Hollywood Reporter: "I wanted this film to be the best that it could possibly be, but it's hard not to wonder. "Often, when I am asked that, I'll say, 'No, I want to wait and see what happens.' And that's true to a point, but when you're developing something and you get so immersed in a character, you have to build out what their story is before and after the movie you're making. That's how you really understand the character, so that's always on my mind. "The movie ends a bit ambiguously on purpose. Who's putting the contract out on her? I'd like to hear theories about where it goes. I definitely have my theory. I would love it if it were to continue, and I think it would surprise people where we would go with it. So we're just waiting for what the reaction is to this one, but yes, I totally have fantasy plans about where Eve would go." Len has been a fan of Ana for years, and he's admitted to being wowed by her performance in 'No Time to Die', the 2021 James Bond film. The director shared: "I would love to see that character show up again; it was just too brief. "We had already gotten involved with Ana. I had Ana in mind for quite a while before that. I went and saw a private screening of 'No Time to Die', and that confirmed her casting even more." Ana recently revealed that she's loved becoming part of the 'John Wick' franchise. The 37-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter: "I love the character and I think we can go anywhere from where we left it." Ana hailed Chad Stahelski, the director of the 'John Wick' movies, and Keanu Reeves - who plays the legendary hitman - for helping to establish the film franchise. And Ana is now excited to see what the future holds. The actress - who worked with Keanu on 2015's 'Knock Knock' and 2016's 'Exposed' - said: "It's really cool. I really like this character and the story and the universe and everything that Chad and Keanu created with the 'John Wick' films, and now to be a part of it, it's really special." ‘We've got a pretty good story': John Wick director Chad Stahelski teases Chapter 5
Chad Stahelski has a "pretty good story" for John Wick: Chapter 5. After the titular hitman's apparent death in 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4, Lionsgate has greenlit a fifth outing for Keanu Reeves' assassin, and Stahelski, 56, has teased the script he and scribe Mike Finch wrote is coming along nicely - though will only go ahead with the movie if they "crack" the story. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about continuing John Wick's story after his supposed end in Chapter 4, the filmmaker said: "I'm not going to lie to you, it's a bit of a conundrum. Me and Mike Finch — the writer on 4 who's also writing 5 — we've got a pretty good story that I think is cool. Once we have a 50-page book, and if we're feeling it, we'll sit with Keanu and shape this thing. "Look, everybody seems to want it. It's a matter of whether we crack it. We're actively working on it. It's just … is it going to be satisfying?" Stahelski added that while Lionsgate wants John Wick: Chapter 5, the sequel isn't locked in just yet. He explained: "The studio would very much will it into existence, I'm sure, at some point. Look, they've been great and they've asked us to really try and we have a really good couple of ideas and we're going to try." The filmmaker added that even if John Wick: Chapter 5 ultimately doesn't come to fruition, he and his creative team will likely discover plenty of other ideas that could be reworked for a spin-off in the process of developing the movie, such as the Ana de Armas-starring Ballerina. Stahelski said: "If we go down the road of John Wick 5 and build this story and decide this isn't right, there are probably going to be 10 other things we'll discover that we'll use for other things. "It's a great creative exercise. It's being in the room riffing with people we love. That's nothing but wins." Ballerina - which also stars Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Lorenza Izzo, Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick - follows Eve Maccaro, a deadly assassin who seeks vengeance for her family's murder and unleashes her fury against those who wronged her. The film is also set to include John Wick as an adversary of Macarro's, though Stahelski revealed this wasn't always in the plan, and he was initially "kind of against" bringing in Reeves' assassin. He explained: "That wasn't in the original script. To be honest, I was kind of against it. But I do see the benefit and we wanted to help out [director Len Wiseman]. "We had just opened John Wick 4 and it was huge. He couldn't go back to the model of the first John Wick and do a little $18 million indie thing and try to build it up. "In order to stay in the same game, you got to give him a fighting chance. And the easiest way to transfer that over — at least, from the studio point of view — was have Wick in Ballerina in a special timeline."

When she gathers the courage to ask out a cute guacamole server who also loves the series, the young woman breaks the news she's actually not queer. 'It's a TV show,' she says. 'I watch The Walking Dead, and I'm not a zombie.' Yeah! And just because I watch this, doesn't mean I, too, have forgotten how to interact with the world in a normal human way! Speaking of: the episode opens with what feels like a hallucination. Carrie Bradshaw skipping across the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District! In a hot dress! At night! With other people around! Samantha would be so proud. Lisette – the young party girl who's moved into Carrie's old apartment – asked to meet to give Carrie a gift. A giant clanking necklace with the numbers 245 welded onto it. Unfortunately, I don't think SJP saying '245 East 73rd St' is going to stop tourists crowding the pavement in front of 64 Perry Street – the West Village facade where they shot the exteriors of her apartment – as much as its new owner would like them to. Before tossing her phone across the bar, Lisette bemoans that 'it's such a messed up time to be dating'. Carrie replies with a few quips and, without the thematic link the show once had via her voiceovers, that's about all we have to gain as far as modern relationship insights go. Loading I don't mean to be negative, really, but scenes like this and the montage of Seema 'hate-dating' men made me yearn for the Sex and the City approach, where funny anecdotes were always bookended by a conversation that needled at the core of why sexual relationships were tricky or fun or dark or twisted. Instead, Seema agrees for her boss to set her up with Sydney, a matchmaker played by Saturday Night Live legend Cheri Oteri. She's an advocate for getting rid of Seema's metallics and animal prints (hard disagree!) and toning down her honesty and entire personality. This show has a tendency to introduce characters with a lot of backstory then disappear them immediately. As grim as this Seema matchmaking storyline is, I pray this is not the end of Sydney; Oteri makes sense in this universe the same way Amy Sedaris and Candice Bergen do. The biggest finger in this episode is delivered by Aidan. After dictating – then deleting – texts out loud to him, Carrie's even more confused about the rules for their separation when he appears in their (?) apartment. Carrie's contractor is ripping out her entire, rat-infested courtyard, and she tells Aidan she's trying to look under everything else in her life. He sets new rules for them which seem to be: let's just keep in regular contact. But when he responds to a text about a vintage table she wants to buy, all he can spare for her is a thumbs down. I really – comma – really wish she'd be honest with him about her feelings because Miranda's right: obsessing over his text etiquette is beneath her. Before Carrie can continue writing her novel in the courtyard – where she quite literally said hello to a squirrel (please God can this woman smoke a cig or wear a bra in public or break into a church service again!!) – she has to get it re-designed by Adam, aka Logan Marshall-Green, who played Trey Atwood on The OC. He asks her the one fundamental question he has to understand new clients: 'What's your ultimate vision?' Not exactly a light ice-breaker. She deflects. She doesn't know. The slate is clean and who knows what comes next. If her manuscript is any indication, she'll be writing on it in Courier New font.
