Playing at home, PSV dominated much of the match but fell behind in the 35th minute. After hitting the crossbar, Mathis Suray put the visitors ahead by finishing a cross from left back Dean James.
Despite creating several chances, PSV was kept at bay by an outstanding performance from Go Ahead Eagles goalkeeper Jari de Busser. The hosts finally broke through in the final 15 minutes of the season's traditional curtain-raiser. Defender Gerrit Nauber turned an Ivan Perisic cross into his own net to make it 1-1, and five minutes from time Sergino Dest scored the winner.
The victory gives PSV a record-extending 15th Johan Cruyff Shield title, solidifying their status as the competition's most successful club.

Margao, Aug 13 (UNI) FC Goa sealed their spot in the AFC Champions League Two 2025-26 Group Stage after staving off a late fightback from Al Seeb Club of Oman to walk away with a 2-1 win in their Preliminary Stage tie at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today. Dejan Drazic and Javier Siverio scored for FC Goa, and the Gaurs will now wait to discover their Group Stage opponents on Friday. Al Seeb started aggressively, testing FC Goa as early as the second minute with Nasser Al Rawahi forcing defender Pol Moreno into an acrobatic clearance, while Zahir Al Aghbari's follow-up from inside the box was blocked. The home side took time to settle and could have broken the deadlock in the ninth minute when Drazic broke free on the left, but with only the keeper to beat, the midfielder's soft shot was easily collected by Ahmed Al Rawahi. Al Rawahi was in the thick of things again for Al Seeb in the 23rd minute when his timely tackle opened up space to set up Abdul Aziz Al Muqbali, whose curling effort was parried away by FC Goa keeper Hrithik Tiwari. The announcement, shared Wednesday on the government's official social media account, expressed the nation's excitement about welcoming the world's elite cyclists to race through the vibrant streets of the capital. "Kigali is excited to host the world's top cyclists as they compete in this landmark event," the statement said. To ensure a safe and seamless competition, the authorities will implement temporary road closures along designated race routes at specific times during the week-long championships, it added.
