Ruben Amorim makes thoughts clear after Bournemouth win – 'He belongs in Manchester'
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim hailed Patrick Dorgu following his standout display in the 4-1 thrashing of Bournemouth in Chicago. Dorgu set up Rasmus Hojlund for United's first goal eight minutes into the game and then bagged one himself just under 20 minutes later.
The young Dane capitalised on a quick free-kick from Mason Mount, shrugged off his marker, burst forward and coolly finished past Bournemouth keeper Djordje Petrovic, marking his first goal since his February move from Lecce.
After an impressive outing against West Ham United in New Jersey last weekend, the 20-year-old was a persistent threat on the left, adopting the attacking positions that Amorim demands from his wing-backs.
Amorim, delighted with Dorgu's development during his first pre-season with United, told MUTV: "He is 20 years old. He looks more and more like he belongs in Manchester United.
"That is hard to do at 20 years old. He is so powerful, he is getting his technique in his game, he is defending so well, he is pressing so well, so I am really impressed with Patrick."
While Dorgu could be set for a long future at United, Amorim has hinted Hojlund could be heading for the exit door. The Dane has seen striker Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arrive this summer, while interest has been lodged in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Amorim is pleased with Hojlund's pre-season work but could not offer the 22-year-old any reassurance over his future. He said: 'I'm really happy with Rasmus, but I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market.
'The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He's connecting really well with the team. He's improving.
'Again, I don't know what is going to happen until the market is closed. We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season.'
Cunha did not play against Bournemouth due to fatigue, while Mbeumo is scheduled to make his first appearance against Everton in Atlanta on Sunday. Harry Maguire was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt, who scored an 88th-minute own goal, at half-time.

The arrival of Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford this summer does not necessarily spell the for Rasmus Hojlund at Manchester United, a report has claimed. Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly of the belief that the two young strikers can co-exist at the club and the capture of the Slovenian could bring out the best in the Hojlund. Hojlund scored United's first goal in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth in Chicago and laid claim to another on the day that it emerged that RB Leipzig star Sesko is the club's No.1 striker target. It has left the Dane's situation at Old Trafford in some doubt, two years after he joined United from Atalanta for £72million. According to The Sun, Amorim is open to the idea of keeping Hojlund this summer and reckons the arrival of Sesko would provide competition that has been previouslly lacking. The outlet claim that the Portuguese is very excited by the prospect of Sesko's arrival but would still prefer Hojlund to remain at the club but the Danish striker will be afforded the right to make a decision on his future. After United's pre-season win over the Cherries, Amorim admitted that he doesn't know what the future holds for Hojlund amid their pursuit of Sesko. 'I am really happy with Rasmus,' said the United boss. 'I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. The £51m midfielder, who previously played alongside Palhinha, featured in 45 matches during his first campaign at United and has been reunited with manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Tottenham secured a 1-0 victory over north London rivals Arsenal at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong on Thursday, with midfielder Pape Matar Sarr netting the match's only goal.
