TG govt to take a decision on NDSA final report soon
Hyderabad: The Telangana government will take a decision on the NDSA (National Dam Safety Authority) final report in the Cabinet meeting soon. The Central government will implement the suggestions made by the NDSA to strengthen the three damaged barrages - Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme. The NDSA suggested to the government a comprehensive investigation is essential for implementing the ground improvement efforts for barrages.
The extent of geotechnical investigations carried out for design and construction of the three barrages were inadequate to identify the variability of the foundation related geotechnical uncertainties.
Referring to the lack of O and M (Operational and Maintenance) Manual for the barrages and non-compliance to the other provisions of the Dam Safety Act 2021 led to suboptimal management of the barrages and the NDSA emphasized the urgency in adherence to the mandates of the Dam Safety Act 2021.
The report also concluded with a clear call for a holistic rehabilitation design, advocating for a comprehensive assessment of health and safety of the entire barrage, and immediate stabilization measures to arrest the ongoing distress. The Dam Safety Authority also outlined long term vision in the report stressing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the project's sustainability and resilience against future challenges. Referring to the NDSA final report, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said the report on the Kaleshwaram Project was a direct indictment of the previous BRS government, exposing serious flaws in its design, construction, and maintenance.
'The NDSA report clearly stated that the design was faulty, construction was faulty, operation and maintenance were faulty. Soil testing was not done properly, and no proper geophysical investigations were conducted", the Minister said, adding that the three barrages were barely functional.
Countering allegations that the NDSA report was politically motivated, Uttam Kumar Reddy clarified that the NDSA is a Central agency comprising the country's top dam safety experts. "The NDSA was constituted when the BRS was still in power. Neither Chief Minister Revanth Reddy nor I appointed it. It is a national body. You should be ashamed that your project was indicted by an institution formed during your own rule," he said.
Demanding a public apology from BRS leaders to the farmers of Telangana, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the government would thoroughly study the NDSA findings and hold a detailed discussion in the next Cabinet meeting. He reiterated the government's commitment to
accountability.

Education system in Telangana in bad shape under Cong: BRS
The education system in Telangana is in a bad shape due to its complete neglect by the Revanth Reddy Government since December 2023, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar alleged. Speaking to the media here on Thursday, he said that during the previous BRS Government, led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the education sector had made rapid strides with overnment establishing 660 residential schools and providing quality education enabling students from downtrodden and backward sections of the society to make it to professional courses in national level educational institutions. 'As the TPCC president A. Revanth Reddy had promised many sops to students, including distribution of scooters to college girls from poor families, and ₹20 lakh overseas scholarship under Ambedkar and Jyotirao Phule overseas education support scheme, but none were fulfilled so far,' he said. He alleged that the Chief Minister had intentionally kept the education portfolio with him to destroy it with negligence in the name of promoting Young India schools, each proposed to be established with ₹200 crore investment to house 2,560 students and give them residential education. Even one school had not been constructed and opened so far, including in Chief Minister's Kodangal constituency and Deputy Chief Minister's Madhira constituency The government had registered cases against BRS leaders, including him (Praveen Kumar), for taking up a programme to visit residential schools and bring problems to the government's notice.

Congress warns KTR against making ‘derogatory' comments on CM
HYDERABAD Congress warned BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao against making 'derogatory' comments on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and accused him of stooping to 'low-level language' and trying to incite political unrest. At separate press conferences at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, MLC Venkat Balmoor, Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy, Road Development Corporation Chairman Malreddy Ramreddy and TPCC general secretary Chanagani Dayakar termed KTR's 'outburst' as 'rattled by the Kaleshwaram fiasco being exposed'. Mr. Balmoor said that the unwarranted remarks were aimed at instigating party workers to create tensions so that the situation could spiral into street-level clashes. Congress workers will not tolerate such 'nonsense' from KTR, he warned. Mr. Patel Ramesh Reddy said those speaking ill about the Chief Minister will not be spared, questioning the tone and tenor of KTR's words. 'His utterances only reflect the frustration set in the BRS leadership as they are bound to face punishment for their corruption and inefficiency in executing the Kaleshawaram project.' Mr. Dayakar said that the entire KCR family was shaken by the probe into Kaleshwaram project and KTR speaking in abusive language against the CM was not acceptable. Echoing similar sentiments, Mr. Ramreddy accused the previous BRS regime of turning Telangana into a 'debt trap' and said that the Congress government under Mr. Revanth Reddy was committed to reversing that legacy through comprehensive welfare and development initiatives. 'People of Telangana will give BRS a fitting reply in the local body,' he asserted. Later, Mr. Venkat Balmoor complained to the Cyber Cell against KTR and also MLA Kaushik Reddy for using their social media platforms to post objectionable and baseless remarks against the CM. He said that the defamatory comments posed a serious threat to law and order in the State. He specifically condemned Mr. Kaushik Reddy's remarks and said, 'It is unacceptable for a public representative to stoop to such levels and misuse digital platforms.'
