According to police, the victim met Patel in Mumbai around 2019. After she moved to Surat in Dec 2024 following her father's retirement, Patel continued to harass her and eventually shared the explicit photos online when she refused to comply with his demands.
The woman, who works as a receptionist at a commercial establishment in Dindoli, had stopped communicating with Patel in 2023. In retaliation, he began stalking her and her sister.
In April 2023, the victim's sister filed a complaint with Andheri police after Patel allegedly made a video of her. A similar incident followed in June 2023, when Patel created a disturbance during the victim's tuition class, prompting her to approach the Vile Parle police.
He later apologized, and the victim resumed contact with him, which eventually led to a relationship.
While residing in Surat, the victim stayed in touch with Patel over video calls.
During one such call, he allegedly coerced her into appearing nude and secretly took screenshots. When she refused to repeat the act, Patel began threatening to leak the images.
Police said Patel created a fake Instagram account through which he shared the victim's nude pictures and reels with her cousin, and later circulated them to several of her friends in Mumbai.
Following the incident, the victim approached Dindoli police and filed a complaint under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.

Main accused still absconding days after 14-year-old girl gang-raped at Ghaziabad home: Police

Three days after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped inside her flat in Ghaziabad, police on Wednesday said that the main accused is still absconding. Two of the four accused, who were apprehended on Tuesday, are both 19, and they have been formally arrested, officers added. According to an official statement issued by the Ghaziabad Police, both the teenagers were apprehended from the Industrial Area Police Post on Tuesday, below the Mehrouli Underpass. 'Following the registration of the FIR on Monday under relevant sections, a team was formed, and based on CCTV footage and local intelligence, police arrested the two accused,' read the statement. Earlier, police had said that all four accused were believed to be minors. 'Both the arrested accused are residents of Ghaziabad, and are around 19 years of age,' the statement read. Meanwhile, an officer said that the girl was yet to record her statement before the magistrate. 'She was to record her statement on Tuesday, but we could not do that because of her poor health,' the officer said, adding that the medical examination report of the girl is also awaited. According to the girl's father, who filed the police complaint with the Ghaziabad Police on Sunday, she received a call from one of the accused when her mother had gone to a nearby market to buy groceries. She was alone at home when the incident happened, he said. 'She received a call on Instagram from a boy who had been texting her on social media for the last two days. He told her that he was coming to the flat to meet her,' the complaint stated. The girl's father further alleged that when his daughter opened the door, the four accused forcibly dragged her inside the room by covering her mouth with their hands and raped her by taking turns. The senior officers involved in the investigation further told The Indian Express that, prima facie, it appeared that the girl knew the main accused as they studied in the same school. 'The accused knew the girl, and the other boys allegedly reached there later, after the main accused called them. We are still investigating the case and will apprehend the main accused,' said the officer, adding that the gangrape allegations are under investigation. Security breach in Kriti Sanon's building, Intruder caught on camera

In a startling incident on June 19, a man entered Sandhu Palace in Pali Hill—home to celebrities like Kriti Sanon, Javed Jaffrey, KL Rahul, and Athiya Shetty—driving in a yellow car and claiming to visit a flat. He then placed large stones in the lift, rendering it inoperative, and made obscene gestures captured on CCTV. The individual was later identified via the car's registration and arrested; he's currently hospitalized. The Khar police filed a case under Sections 324(2) and 324(4) of the BNS, raising fresh concerns about lax security protocols in high-profile residential buildings.

Dharmasthala burial case: Investigation Officer will take call on exhuming bodies, say DK police

The Dakshina Kannada police said on Wednesday that the Investigation Officer (IO) in the Dharmasthala burial case will take a call on exhuming bodies at an appropriate stage during the course of the investigation. A police statement said that the bodies will be exhumed by following the due process of law. It said that as the investigation progresses, the officer will decide when to exhume bodies. The police said that the officer has sought the permission of the court to conduct brain mapping, fingerprint and narco analysis of the complainant witness, if the complainant agrees. The statement said that neither the complainant witness nor his advocates have informed the officer that a petition related to the same case had been filed before the Supreme Court. But the police have learnt that a petition was submitted before the apex court. 'This information will have to be verified,' the statement said. The police said that intelligence inputs suggest that there is a possibility of the complainant witness going incommunicado once the exhuming (of bodies) gets over. Hence reports are doing the rounds that there is a hurry to exhume the bodies without following the due process of law. The police are verifying these possibilities and the same has been communicated to the advocates representing the complainant witness. On July 3, a person filed a complaint with the Dharmasthala police claiming that he was forced to bury the bodies of many persons who were allegedly raped and murdered in Dharmasthala. He claimed that he buried the bodies during his tenure as a sanitation worker between 1995 and December 2014. After taking permission from a court, the Dharmasthala police registered a case on July 4 for an offence under Section 211 (a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. On July 11, the complainant produced some of the skeletal remains of a body that he claimed to have exhumed on his own, before the Principal Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate First Class, Belthangady court, and gave a statement regarding the same.
