Mirror's Daily Digest - from survival kit warning to cruise ship horror
In this Monday's Mirror Daily Digest, we've pulled together the biggest stories of the day from the government's advice on 72-hour emergency kits to the Disney Dream cruise ship horror
Welcome to the Mirror's Daily Digest, where we'll be pulling together all the best stories of the day from our News, Showbiz, Sport teams and more. This Monday, we're featuring everything from the government's advice to Brits on preparing a 72-hour emergency kit, through to the Disney cruise horror after a girl tumbled into the Atlantic Ocean.
We've also got an exclusive with Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver who addressed 'catfights' and 'fallouts' with her Loose Women co-star Denise Welch. Meanwhile, our Politics team broke the news that around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the watered-down welfare cuts.
Full list of what every home needs in 72-hour survival kit
Governments in both the UK and Europe have urged residents to assemble 72-hour emergency kits within their homes, filled with essential supplies that could sustain them for at least three days in times of crisis, our News team reports. In the UK, this message has been reinforced by the unveiling of the Prepare website by Oliver Dowden.
This portal provides practical advice for ensuring households are better equipped to deal with various emergencies such as floods, power outages or pandemics. The website has outlined what the emergency kits should ideally contain, with items including non-perishable food, water, baby supplies, first aid kit, and a battery or wind-up radio.
The UK government has acknowledged that buying all these items at once may prove challenging for some. Instead, the advice is to build up supplies gradually as and when possible, avoiding panic buying, reports the Daily Record.
Loose Women star addresses 'catfights' and 'massive fallout' with Denise Welch
There's never a dull moment on the Loose Women set, and show regular Sue Cleaver spoke exclusively to Love Sunday about the ITV programme. The Coronation Street icon said: "I love that show. It's brilliant. I've known all the girls for years, so, yeah."
When quizzed on the speculation about women at war and in-fighting, Sue replied: "They always like to say 'catfights', but they only say that about women, don't they? They wouldn't dream of saying that when it's blokes presenting something. Actually we're very tight. But it happens a lot when Denise [Welch] and I are on together.
"We've known each other for 25 years – we're close friends and have a sort of shorthand in the way we communicate. The press will say 'massive fallout', but I've never fallen out with Denise in my life! It's quite awful, we've still got so far to go that it's depressing."
All 51 Premier League players out of contract today ahead of free transfer moves
Our Sports team has been closely following the latest updates on June 30 cut-off point for football players whose deals had been due to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season. A total of 51 Premier League stars have just hours left on their existing contracts before becoming free agents or sealing free transfer moves, they wrote.
Retained and released lists have been published, goodbyes have been said and lockers have been cleared out. Some players will already have their next move lined up while others enter the free agent market.
Once the clock ticks past midnight and Tuesday begins, those out-of-contract stars are able to join a new club for free thanks to the Bosman rule. There's been some last-minute movement, though, as Friday saw Manchester United announce that goalkeeper Tom Heaton had signed a contract extension while it was confirmed that Everton captain Seamus Coleman had also signed a new deal.
In other news, our Politics team broke that around 150,000 people will still be pushed into poverty under the government's watered-down welfare cuts, new modelling suggests. It comes after Keir Starmer offered major concessions last week after a rebellion over 120 Labour MPs threatened the government with defeat in the Commons.
In a dramatic climbdown, the Prime Minister agreed to protect all existing claimants from losing Personal Independence Payments - a key disability benefit. The changes to PIP will now only apply to new claims from November 2026.
But new modelling published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) today says an additional 150,000 individuals will be in relative poverty after housing costs by the end of 2029-30. The modelling said the estimate does not include any "potential positive impact" from extra funding to support people with disabilities and long-term health conditions into work.
Dad dives into sea after daughter falls overboard on Disney Dream cruise ship
Finally, a dad dived into the waves after his young daughter fell overboard during a Disney Dream cruise in the Atlantic Ocean. Horrified passengers watched as a 'man overboard' alert was sounded and a major rescue effort launched.
He managed to keep the terrified girl's head above water as crew members from the liner took to the seas in a rescue boat and battled to reach them. The drama took place as the $900m Disney Dream was on its return voyage to Fort Lauderdale from the Bahamas on Sunday.
MailOnline reported passenger Dewayne Smith posted to Facebook: "We re on the Disney Dream at sea today and just witnessed a first on a cruise. A little girl fell overboard and her dad jumped overboard to try to save her. Man overboard calls went up immediately. The Disney crew went into action asap. Lots of praying folks on this ship! Both the little girl and dad were both successfully rescued."

Coronation Street spoilers for next week reveal more about the Gary Windass twist as we finally find out who attacked him, while there's also drama for Lisa Swain and Kevin Webster Spoilers for Coronation Street have promised all kinds of drama, betrayals, secrets and twists. Gary Windass remains in a coma next week, as we edge closer to the truth about what happened to him. We a have little while to wait though, as Corrie is only on Thursday and Friday next week due to schedule changes. Flashbacks are set to finally confirm what happened to Gary, and who really attacked him. We also get to see the desperate lengths the culprit has gone to to cover their tracks. Maria Connor begins looking into the matter, turning to detective Kit Green with her concerns. With him not making it home after a visit to his mum's house weeks ago, alarm bells ring when he fails to show up for his stepson Liam's birthday. Maria reports him as missing and soon she and Kit are trying to figure out what has happened to him. Lisa Swain is on the case too and when she hears about an unknown coma patient at the hospital from Kit she questions if it's Gary. Nina Lucas and Summer Spellman fear this is the man they saw be attacked, or maybe did attack, when they were high on LSD recently. Nina is deeply worried but Summer reminds her that there were no reports of an assault. Meanwhile someone knows all, as a visitor sits by Gary's bedside as he remains unconscious. In a shocking turn of events, the nurses think Gary is called Chesney after a fake name is given by the attacker. Gary is making improvements, but who is the woman sat with Gary and clearly behind or at least involved in what happened to him? Spoilers question what motive she would have for covering Gary's true identity, but other teasers have already revealed the culprit is behind this so surely they are trying to cover their tracks. Soon, a series of flashbacks take us back to the night that it happened and we finally see what went down, and how it all links together. With that, it's safe to say we will find out the attacker's identity. Later in the week Gary is still in a coma, but will he pull through and will Maria and Kit find him? This isn't the only drama Lisa is caught up in this week, as she continues to struggle with recent events. It's been a turbulent year for Lisa, while the past few years have seen her attempt to overcome a tragedy from her past. With Lisa recently facing trouble thanks to Kit after an incident with his son Brody, Carla Connor is desperate to help her partner. But after recent conversations it seems Carla has been unable to convince Lisa to fully open up. Next week, she does her best to get her girlfriend onside about attending therapy, telling her it can really help her as Lisa prepares for her first session. It's clear Lisa remains sceptical about it and the positive impact it may have on her, no doubt fearing having to rake over the past including the loss of her wife Becky. When conversation turns to Becky, Lisa struggles and is thrown into turmoil. But can she deal with her past to help her move forward, and will she continue with the therapy? Can Carla be there for Lisa, or could the latter push her away once more? Elsewhere, there's drama for the Bailey family as Dee-Dee continues to struggle with whether she wants to be in baby daughter Laila's life or not - while her brother James continues his plans to adopt his niece. Dee-Dee goes behind his back and has a christening for her, with Adam Barlow and Alya Nazir named as Godparents. This marks Adam's return to the Cobbles after fans were baffled by him being offscreen for months. Back to Dee-Dee, it's a tense time as James pushes forward with the adoption, but will he find out about the christening? A newcomer named Ollie also makes his debut, before chatting up Dee-Dee. She's charmed by him, but is happiness around the corner, or is there more to the character? Also next week Lauren Bolton is suspicious when Aadi Alahan continues to be super nice to her, even buying her an air fryer while offering to help her move into her new flat. But will she figure out it was his spiked drink she drunk recently, leading to her accident? Finally next week, Kevin admits to brother Carl Webster he's got the all clear and needs no more cancer treatment, despite his wife Abi Franklin being under the impression he needs more chemotherapy. With the brothers soon at loggerheads, Abi insists Kevin tells his family the truth. Soon enough, Kevin makes out to sister Debbie and pal Tyrone that his cancer was unresponsive and he has to have further treatment. But feeling the pressure of his lies he admits to Tyrone that he lied and his cancer has gone. What is Kevin up to?

Emmerdale spoilers - Villain returns for revenge on Joe and Robert Sugden drama
Emmerdale spoilers have teased a very big week ahead on the ITV soap, as Joe Tate faces a villain in a revenge twist, while there's a double hospital dash and drama for Robert Sugden There's big twists and turns on Emmerdale next week, including a shocking return, revenge drama and danger for more than one resident. Joe Tate finally learns who's been targeting him with a harassment campaign, resulting in horrifying scenes next week. It sparks the return of a villain, with Joe possibly facing serious danger. He's not the only one, as two characters face trouble in a car incident as one of them faints behind the wheel. There's also schemes and threats as Robert Sugden takes action, while there's plenty of decisions and big moments ahead. Let's kick things off with the return of Joe's former accomplice and now nemesis, it seems, Dr Crowley. We last saw Crowley after he got dragged into Joe's schemes when he needed a new kidney. He was paying Crowley to help him find a donor and then perform the operation, which he did. What Crowley wasn't banking on though was Joel having his uncle Caleb Miligan stabbed, before being forced to remove the kidney and transplant it into Joe. With the police snooping around Crowley fled and he has not been seen since. But it seems he's out to get Joe, after weeks of harassment and he's not working alone. As the villain makes a comeback it seems he's more dangerous than ever, blackmailing Joe. As he's revealed to be behind Joe's ordeal, he demands £100,000 to be placed in the kitchen at Home Farm. Fearing Shaun is behind it, Joe sacks him leading to the character turning threatening. Joe plots to flee the village fearing he isn't safe, only to be knocked out by a shovel-wielding Shaun. That's not the worst of it though as he wakes up in a makeshift hospital room to a menacing Crowley looming over him. So what does Crowley have planned and will Joe make it out alive? Two other characters face danger next week, when Gabby's crash diet ahead of her wedding leaves her and Sarah Sugden in a bad way. Sarah is still recovering from her emergency hysterectomy when the pair go for a drive as mechanic Sarah offers to ensure Gabby's car is fine after some issues. She's trying to take her mind off things, clearly struggling and refusing to rest as suggested by the doctors. But having barely eaten for days, Gabby faints at the wheel meaning Sarah has to quickly grab the wheel to bring the car to a stop. Sarah is left in agony at having to stretch out amid her wounds from her operation. As they both end up in hospital, Sarah collapses. When joined by her grandfather Cain Dingle, an emotional Sarah admits the accident made her realise how badly she wants a family of her own so he suggests surrogacy. When Charity Dingle fears Cain is raising their granddaughter's hopes, Cain says he's determined to help her. As for Gabby, she's given the all clear but as fiancé Vinny Dingle supports her, he continues to hide his concerns over their relationship and continues to question his sexuality. Gabby's stepmother Laurel Thomas overhears Vinny talking with pal Kammy and demands a private chat. She encourages him not to marry Gabby if he's unsure about the relationship but what will he do? Finally next week, Robert Sugden causes more trouble when he avoids discussing plans for Annie's field after a deal with Moira Dingle. But when Ross Barton confronts him about the missing weed, Robert threatens to cancel the land deal with Moira, forcing Ross to back down temporarily. Kim Tate prepares to share all about her new man, and Tracy Robinson fumes at Cain over Nate's memorial. Lewis Barton gets a job at the café and proves to be a hit. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.
