Zoe Saldaña Had An Extremely Blunt Response When Asked About Karla Sofía Gascón's Claim That Her Costars Support Her '200%' Amid Her Racism Scandal
🔥 Full coverage and conversation on the Oscars
The recent controversy surrounding Oscar nominee Karla Sofía Gascón is continuing to spiral.
In case you missed it, in a CNN Español interview released on Sunday, Karla Sofía broke down while insisting that her previous online posts do not define who she is, and insisted that she was not a racist.
She also released a lengthy Instagram statement in which she said, 'I am not racist. I have a lot of things to improve in this world, my way of expressing myself [is] one of them. But I will not apologize for something I am not.'
The online posts in question included many expressing anti-Islamic sentiment, posts targeting diversity at the Oscars, and some damning statements about George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.
In her statement, she also alleged that people 'have created posts as if it were me insulting even my colleagues.' This was likely in reference to a since-deleted post of hers that was circulating in which she referred to her Emilia Pérez costar Selena Gomez as a 'rich rat.'
Karla Sofía also stated in the Sunday interview that her costars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña support her '200%.'
Previously, Zoe Saldaña made a statement on January 31 about the controversy, saying, 'It makes me really sad because I don't support [it], and I don't have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group.'
She continued, 'I can only attest to the experience that I had with each and every individual that was a part, that is a part, of this film, and my experience and my interactions with them was about inclusivity and collaboration and racial, cultural, and gender equity. And it just saddens me. It saddens me that we are having to face this setback right now.'
In addition to Zoe's previous statement, Selena Gomez is yet to make any public comment – either in support of Karla as she claims, or in condemnation of her offensive posts. However, Emilia Pérez directer Jaques Audiard released a statement on February 5 condemning Karla Sofía's behavior and stating that Karla Sofía was in a 'self-destructive approach.'

He added, 'I'm thinking... of how [she's] hurting others, of how she's hurting the crew and all these people who worked so incredibly hard on this film. I'm thinking of myself, I'm thinking of Zoe [Saldaña] and Selena [Gomez]. I just don't understand why she's continuing to harm us.'
And as well as the distance from her costars and director, Netflix has reportedly enforced a divide with Karla Sofía, with a source telling Variety on Tuesday that they will no longer be funding her attendance at upcoming awards shows.
Now, Zoe has responded to Karla Sofía's claims about her alleged '200% support' of her disgraced costar.
In an upcoming episode of the Variety Awards Circuit podcast, Zoe was asked about the claim. When questioned about the topic, Zoe apparently took 'a long blink,' and did not confirm the statement. Which, in my opinion, totally says it all.
'I do not support any negative rhetoric of racism and bigotry towards any group of people. That is what I want to stand for,' she concluded.

Halle Berry Wears Underwear in Pool During 59th Birthday Trip
Halle Berry is on what looks to be an incredible vacation somewhere sunny that I'm jealous of, where she's celebrating her 59th birthday with her family! The Oscar winner has shared a ton of photos from the trip, including a series of herself enjoying a private pool in underwear and a lingerie top. Who needs a swimsuit, you know? Halle also shared some bikini pics on the beach, which she captioned "We have to get older, but we don't have to get old 🤌🏽" Last year, Halle opened up about double standards in society's views of aging, telling Fortune (via Buzzfeed) "Historically, women, as we age, we just get old, right? Men get sexy. They get gray hair and they're silver foxes. We're just haggard. Society tells us or has told us that our time is should go out to pasture. We're done with our baby-making years — that being our primary purpose for being here is to bear children — and when we're done with that at 35/40, there's nothing left for us." She added, "Aging is a privilege, and we should see it that way. We should feel that way about getting older. We should feel like the crowned jewels of our society." "I have always known that I'm more than this shell that I walk around in," Halle continued. "I have longed for someone to say something to me other than, 'Oh gosh, you're so pretty.' I've longed to hear other words. I know I'm more than this."

Taylor Swift Film Premiere Rumors Spark a Response From the Vancouver International Film Festival
THE RUNDOWN Taylor Swift won't be premiering her film yet. Rumors began to swirl after the Vancouver International Film Festival's Instagram account announced this year's film lineup by posting a blurred photo with a sparkly orange lock over it, very similar to how Swift teased her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl. The caption read, '...Ready for it? The #VIFF2025 full festival lineup will be revealed on August 27.' Speculation intensified when, days earlier, Taylor Nation posted on X, 'We can't find the key! Lost it in Vancouver #TSTheLifeofaShowgirl' But alas, the two posts aren't connected. After Swifties convinced themselves the singer might premiere a film at the festival, VIFF updated its caption with a disclaimer: 'There will be no Taylor Swift documentary debuting at VIFF. Earlier today we saw the viral TikTok video with the prediction and were honored to even be in the Easter egg discussion. However, we're so excited to show you what's coming to #VIFF2025. Hope there's no 'Bad Blood.'' In 2022, it was announced that Swift would direct her first feature film in partnership with Searchlight Pictures. At the time, the studio said in a statement, 'Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller. It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.' There have been no updates on the film's production. However, in August 2025, fans noticed that a 'Directed Projects' section appeared on Swift's website, which includes the music videos that she's directed, like 'Anti-Hero,' 'Fortnight,' and 'All Too Well: The Short Film.'
