Francis Ford Coppola, the acclaimed American director of The Godfather movies and Apocalypse Now, has undergone a non-emergency medical procedure by appointment at a hospital in Rome and is doing fine, his representative says.
"Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr. Andrea Natale, his doctor of more than 30 years, and is resting nicely," the representative said on Tuesday in response to Italian media reports that the director was in hospital.
"All is well."
The 86-year-old filmmaker was admitted on Tuesday to the Policlinico Tor Vergata, a public hospital in the Italian capital, news agency ANSA reported.
The US based representative declined to give any details about the nature of Coppola's medical procedure, but said: "There was not an emergency. He went to the hospital in a car."
Coppola posted a photograph of himself on Instagram appearing relaxed and smiling with a message reassuring fans, "I am well."
"Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor - Dr. Andrea Natale," it said. He did not elaborate further.
His US representative specifically disputed as "not true" a report from the Italian website repubblica.it that Coppola had suffered atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heartbeat, before entering the operating room for what was to have been a long-planned surgical procedure.
A spokesperson for the hospital did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
The Italian-American director, who has won five Academy Awards, four of them for his work on the first two films in The Godfather trilogy, widely considered by cinema buffs to rank among the greatest movies of all time.

Dean Cain joins ICE
Dean Cain has signed up to work for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Lois + Clark: The New Adventures of Superman actor will be signed up as an agent "ASAP" amid the federal agency's recruitment drive in order to support US President Donald Trump's scheme to boost immigration raids. Dean told Fox News host Jesse Watters he had decided to join ICE after the presenter shared a recruitment video on his Instagram. He said: 'I'm actually a sworn deputy sheriff and a reserve police officer – I wasn't part of ICE, but once I put that out there and you put a little blurb on your show, it went crazy. 'So now I've spoken with some officials over at Ice, and I will be sworn in as an ICE agent, ASAP.' Dean believes the current immigration system is "broken" so he is keen to do what he can to support the president. He said: 'This country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing. 'We have a broken immigration system. Congress needs to fix it, but in the interim, President Trump ran on this. He is delivering on this. This is what people voted for. It's what I voted for and he's going to see it through, and I'll do my part and help make sure it happens. 'I'm stepping up. Hopefully, a whole bunch of other former officers, former ICE agents, will step up and we'll meet those recruitment goals immediately, and we'll help protect this country.' Dean recently expressed concern that James Gunn has made Superman too "woke" in his new movie, which stars David Corenswet. The actor - who played the superhero in Lois + Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993 to 1997 told TMZ: "How woke is Hollywood going to make this character? How much is Disney going to change their Snow White? Why are they going to change these characters [to] exist for the times?" James had previously compared his movie to "the story of America", with a central character who is "an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country." Referencing the traditional Superman motto of "Truth, justice, and the American way" - which has evolved over the years and has most recently been "Truth, justice, and a better tomorrow", Dean said: "We know Superman is an immigrant — he's a freaking alien... "The 'American way' is immigrant friendly, tremendously immigrant friendly. But there are rules. "You can't come in saying, 'I want to get rid of all the rules in America, because I want it to be more like Somalia.' Well that doesn't work, because you had to leave Somalia to come here... There have to be limits, because we cant have everybody in the United States. We can't have everybody, society will fail. So there have to be limits."

Bali villa raided by thief who stole Aussie's Airpods
A mischievous and unsuspecting thief has caused chaos at a luxury villa in Bali after raiding an Aussie's room and throwing their Airpods out the window. Aussie Jazz Walsh, who describes herself as a 'wellness corporate girlie', was enjoying a relaxing massage at a luxury resort in Uluwatu when the raid occurred. Ms Walsh received a video from staff at the hotel who broke the unfortunate news that a thief had entered through her open bathroom window. 'I think monkeys were coming to your room earlier through this window,' the staff member can be heard saying in the video. 'This window was open and I'm afraid the monkey was coming from the outside into the inside and messed things up.' After showing the trail of destruction left by the monkey, videoing Walsh's belongings strewn all over the floor of her hotel room, the staff member reveals how they knew it was a monkey who was the thief. 'I know this because headphones were falling from your room,' the staff member reveals, alluding to the fact that the monkey threw her Airpods out of the window. Ms Walsh saw the funny side of the raid, sharing the video on TikTok and revealing in the comments that the monkeys stole her Airpods but left the case behind. The video was flooded with comments, many praising the actions of the the hotel attendant. 'Why are Balinese are too cute,' one person commented. 'Omg he's so cute, I'm sorry I laughed. I hope the monkeys didn't take anything too valuable 😭,' wrote another. The four-star resort is located steps away from the popular Bingin Beach, and features a tree-top terrace, garden and cliffside restaurant. The Uluwatu area is renowned for thieving monkeys; the monkeys who have taken residence at Uluwatu Temple even featured on David Attenborough's documentary, Planet Earth III, for their developed skills in bartering. Many unlucky tourists were filmed having their sunglasses and mobile phones taken by the long-tailed macaques who would only return the desirable human items in return for a banana or chocolate bar. 'They will exploit you in a way that you couldn't believe possible, it's quite shocking,' Attenborough said in a BBC interview. PerthNow has contacted Jazz Walsh for comment. Tragedy for Aussie activewear founder as beloved sister dies aged 17
The heartbroken founder of one of Australia's rising activewear brands has shared the devastating news of her younger sister's death, paying tribute to the 17-year-old she calls her 'soulmate' and 'warrior'. Justine Ramsay, a professional athlete and co-founder of Gia Active, revealed her sister, Giaan Ramsay, has passed away, describing her as 'too kind and too sensitive for this world'. In an emotional post on Instagram, the 27-year-old entrepreneur and runner from the Gold Coast, Queensland, described the pain of losing Giaan, who inspired the brand's name and its mission to champion mental health. 'My beautiful angel sister, I can't even believe I'm sitting here writing this, it still doesn't feel real that you are gone,' Justine wrote. 'Anyone who knows me knows my sister Giaan was my whole entire world. 'She was my light and my soul ... we understood each other on a level no one else will understand.' Justine Ramsay shared some childhood photos of herself and her sister, Giaan, on Instagram. Credit: Instagram While the exact circumstances surrounding Giaan's death have not been made public, Justine shared her belief her sister had been let down by the health system. 'She was failed by the medical system, and I will never stop fighting for her,' she wrote. 'They never allowed her to have a voice, so I will be her voice. 'I owe it to her to make sure no one else feels the same, because they failed my girl, and now I have to try to live without her.' Describing Giaan as 'loving, thoughtful and the funniest person I've ever met, selfless even in her darkest hours', Justine's tribute paints the picture of a young woman full of heart, humour, and creativity. 'She would make my belly laugh every day. 'She was so beautiful, we used to say she looked like a doll, because she was just perfect. In every way.' Giaan passed away at just 17 years old. The family is now raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign to reunite relatives from South Africa and cover funeral costs. The campaign, launched on July 30, has raised nearly $35,000 in a matter of days, with support pouring in from across the country. 'We love you, our beautiful Giaan,' Justine wrote on the page. 'You were an angel too kind for this world.' The sports brand shared the news of Giaan's passing on Instagram. Credit: Instagram In a recent behind-the-scenes video posted by Gia Active, Justine shared the deeply personal story behind the brand. She revealed she had been a runner since the age of six, living in activewear and dreaming of creating her own pieces, but a severe injury two years ago forced her out of sport for over a year and a half, leaving her feeling isolated. 'I just like lost who I was because all I've ever known is running,' she wrote. Gia Active became her way of turning pain into purpose. 'Gia is actually named after one of my beautiful sisters — Giaan,' she shared. 'She's a true warrior and someone who embodies perseverance and resilience like I've never witnessed before.' 'I want Gia Active to not only reflect my passion for sport and activewear, but to honour my sister and anyone else who has faced mental health battles.' The brand recently announced 5 per cent of proceeds from its latest restock will be donated to the Black Dog Institute, a leading organisation supporting mental health research and education. Credit: Instagram Justine ended her tribute with a heart-shattering farewell reflecting both her unimaginable grief and her fierce determination to keep Giaan's memory alive. 'Everything I do and everything I am is because of her. 'She taught me strength, resilience, courage — and what's truly important in life. 'Forever 17. Rest in peace, my sweet girl.'
