Efforts to curb bullying, status of Obudsman Malaysia among focus of today's Dewan Rakyat sitting
According to the Order Papers published on the Parliament's official website, Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden (PN-Alor Setar) will ask the Higher Education Minister to state the measures during the Minister's Question Time, while Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) will ask the Prime Minister to state the government's decision following the comprehensive engagement session with stakeholders regarding the status of the establishment of Ombudsman Malaysia and the subsequent measures planned to expedite its implementation.
During the Questions for Oral Answers session, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) will ask the Health Minister about complaints regarding high treatment costs in private hospitals, and would inquire about the government's five-year plan to introduce the Diagnostic-Related Groups (DRG) system as a measure to streamline the structuring of healthcare costs; and whether there is a plan to establish a tribunal for patients to express their dissatisfaction.
Rushdan Rusmi (PN-Padang Besar) will ask the Human Resources Minister to state whether the ministry has a proposal to create an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Coordinator position in the public sector in line with the amendments to the OSH Act, which were made in 2022.
After the session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting will continue with the debate on the motion on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), that began on Monday with 78 MPs participating so far.
The current Dewan Rakyat session will take place for 24 days till Aug 28. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas' strategic decision to rationalise its asset portfolio is driven by the need to optimise investments and adapt to global market uncertainties, says the Prime Minister. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this ensures that the company remains competitive and sustainable in the long term. He said that with Petronas being among the top ten in its field globally, the company must consider long-term perspectives in light of the uncertainties in the global oil and gas market. Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik (PH-Balik Pulau) has queried about Petronas' strategy amidst declining global oil demand and energy transition challenges. Anwar highlighted Petronas' ventures into alternative energy sources, such as solar and green hydrogen projects at Kenyir Lake. "These initiatives align with our low-carbon strategy and diversify our energy portfolio," he said. In an additional question, Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) expressed concerns about the potential impact on employees due to Petronas' ongoing restructuring efforts. Anwar acknowledged that over 5,000 workers might be affected by these changes, but reassured that comprehensive support measures are in place to assist those affected. "We are ensuring that those affected receive training for new opportunities, with guarantees such as a year-long salary," he said. Anwar said Petronas is committed to minimising the impact on employees by collaborating with government-linked investment companies and providing avenues for reskilling and upskilling. Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) then raised concerns regarding Petronas' strategy on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports and how it would maintain its profit portfolio. Anwar clarified that Petronas imports only what is necessary. "Our import strategy is aligned with maintaining a competitive and commercially viable portfolio. "Petronas balances imports and exports to maintain profitability," he said. He said Petronas continues to export LNG to major markets, ensuring that these projects remain commercially viable and beneficial. Anwar gave his assurance that any import requirements are balanced with the company's overall trade strategy and are intended to support both domestic needs and international trade relationships.

Anwar awaits MCMC probe before responding to Muhyiddin's RON95 allegation
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will wait for the outcome of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) investigation before deciding if he has to apologise to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over the RON95 fuel subsidy issue. On Oct 5, Anwar was reported to have said he had received reports that an opposition bloc MP had defended the rights of foreigners in benefiting from subsidy rationalisation. Muhyiddin then denied via a social media post that he had ever made any statement suggesting he was defending the rights of foreigners in the RON95 subsidy targeting matter. Anwar said it is important to wait for the outcome of the MCMC investigation. "I have no issue (apologising) if it can be verified that there was no proper source, that would be a mistake, and I have no problem with that. "I have also asked the MCMC to verify the information. Some people have misunderstood it as an investigation into Pagoh (Muhyiddin), but that's not the case. "I said there are different sources. Whether they are legitimate or not, we must wait for MCMC's investigation," he said during Prime Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

PM: Petronas layoffs partly due to AI, GLCs to take in axed employees
PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today said that layoffs in Petronas were partly due to 'redundancies' brought on by new technologies, including AI. Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Anwar said the restructuring exercise will also see affected workers offered positions in other government-linked companies (GLCs) and government-linked investment companies (GLICs).
